After the big Thanksgiving releases, this weekend has only one major release. “Shame,” a fearless foray into the world of sexual addiction, is rated NC-17. With extremely explicit depictions of sex, albeit depressing ones, it is not for children or the faint of heart.
However, the fantastic “The Muppets” is still in theaters. If you haven’t seen it with your kids, what are you waiting for?
Martin Scorsese’s love song to movie history, “Hugo,” is a beautiful and moving film for all ages, especially in 3D.
“Happy Feet Two” brings back those dancing penguins and “Puss in Boots” takes you back to Far, Far Away.
For adults, it’s best to skip the dismal Adam Sandler alleged comedy “Jack and Jill.” If you like stylized and gory action, go see “The Immortals,” but don’t expect a story that makes sense.
George Clooney’s “The Descendants” is an excellent but sad option. It’s about a Hawaiian man trying to connect with his daughters while his wife lies in a coma. To make things even more complicated, he discovers she was engaged in an affair and also he has a major business decision bearing down on him. Moving without being corny and well-acted, it’s an Oscar contender.
And of course, there’s always that vampire movie.
Pick of the week? Go see “The Muppets.”
Tinsel will be back next week with all the new releases.
