The Relief of Fitting In

Sometimes we don’t realize how hard we’re fighting until we don’t have to anymore.

As a Hindu in America I am constantly fighting to be visible, to avoid being steamrolled by the majority faith all around me. In India I got to experience what it’s like to have my faith be the one that’s everywhere. Not gonna lie, it felt great!

It was amazing to be in a place where Hinduism is all around and easily visible. I felt lighter and free-er.

I’ve advocated for people experiencing living in a place where your faith is the minority but perhaps we all also need the perspective of experiencing what it’s like to live in a place where your faith is the majority.

Of course in real life it’s not practical to move to different places for this purpose. I’ve had people ask why I don’t just move to India and really if not for all my family and friends here in America moving to India is extremely tempting. For now I’ll settle for visiting more often!
