My Life in Hindu Holidays

My Life in Hindu Holidays September 21, 2015

I’ve had some really special moments of my life happen around Hindu holidays. We got married the day after Krishna Janmashtami and got to rock baby Krishna at the temple during our wedding ceremony. And this year it was the morning of Ganesh Chaturthi that I got a definitely positive pregnancy test.

Today I go in to the doctor for my second blood test to make sure everything is progressing well, but I’m at four and half weeks pregnant right now and all the signs are looking good.

I’m nervous and scared to hope. I’m feeling more fear and just general down-ness than I would have expected. I hope that once everything is confirmed and I meet with my midwife that I’ll start feeling more excited.

They’ll be lots of chance for prayers and thanks as we’re heading into the big holiday season. I’m very much looking forward to being pregnant for Navratri and Diwali.

Congratulations, Ambaa. May it be a glorious child.

Here are 2 famous Stotrams that you might be interested in, both by the famous South Indian vocalist M. S. Subbulakshmi:

    1. Kanakadhara Stotram (specifically invoking the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi,
who is said to protect children in the womb)

    2. Bhavayami Gopalabalam

I know that you- having been a Hindu for so long- must get a lot of “Hindu song” suggestions. But please trust me when I say that these two are different; I think they will both be well worth listening to. Just make sure that you listen to the M. S. Subbulakshmi versions.

I’d love to hear what you think!

Hi Ambaa. You’ve helped me clarify my religon. Thanks for that. How long have you been a hindu for ?

    • Ambaa

Let’s see. I came to the realization that I was a Hindu when I was 22, so eleven years now. I had a lot of Indian philosophy influencing my life before that but that was when I really began identifying as Hindu.
