It’s been that way for a while with the Monks of New Skete. Who are these guys? Here’s what their website says, In 1966 a small group of Byzantine-Rite Franciscans established a monastic community in northwestern Pennsylvania. Today, the monks reside in their permanent home east of Cambridge, New York, close to the Vermont border. It is here that the monks have, for more than 40 years, nurtured their deep love for and spiritual connection with dogs, and developed their... Read more

Period. End of story. That is the truth. The problem, though, is that the truth isn’t favorable to the current Administration. President Obama, and his capable staff, know that this is true, which is why they only seek the opinions of folks like NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and Catholic groups that are not empowered to speak for the Church. This is why the Administrations’ “accommodation” was crafted to fool folks into thinking that this is a “war on women” and a... Read more

By the sweat of your brow you shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, from which you were taken; For you are dust, and to dust you shall return.—Genesis 3:19 We’re almost a third of the way through Lent, and reckon I needed to cry today. Perhaps you need to cry too? As such, I’ll share the following tragic story of a hero’s death that sent me running for the tissues this morning, and forced me to yet... Read more

So you’ve read Cardinal Dolan’s letter to the Bishops, and you support the Church’s stance on the HHS Mandate. You agree that it must be rescinded. You also understand that the purpose of buying insurance is to protect yourself, and your family, from catastrophic loss that you otherwise could not afford to endure. Must I break out the Merriam-Webster dictionary? (more…) Read more

Dated March 2, 2012 and presented below in it’s entirety. All links added are the work of your blogger. My brother bishops, Twice in recent weeks, I have written you to express my gratitude for our unity in faith and action as we move forward to protect our religious freedom from unprecedented intrusion from a government bureau, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). I remain deeply grateful to you for your determined resolve, to the Chairmen of our... Read more

I can understand where you’re coming from. You’ve been burned before. Or more likely, you’ve been duped by shoddy productions and bad acting when you were hoping a film would measure up to the standards you’ve come to expect. You loved Fr. Barron’s Catholicism series, for instance, and want more top quality productions like that. So I have a proposition for you: (more…) Read more

Nor will it, because this is the crux of the matter. These revelations are nothing new to readers of this space. But for those who need more convincing, this post today from James Taranto, of the Wall Street Journal’s Best of the Web feature, The Fluke Distraction, may do nicely. Bold portions highlighted below are mine. There seems to be wide agreement that the Sandra Fluke kerfuffle handed the left a major political victory. We respectfully dissent. (more…) Read more

I don’t know about you, dear reader, but I loved Peter Falk’s character of the seemingly bumbling detective named Lt. Columbo. All of the episodes were marvelous examples of the conventional wisdom assuming criminals, who also just knew that they were the smartest people in the room, winding up getting out foxed by this seemingly idiotic, nay, imbecilic, homicide inspector. Check out Falk’s in-character performance here at a Dean Martin roast of Frank Sinatra, (more…) Read more

Remember the other day when I said “it’s all about getting votes for the incumbent, and staying in power?” One doesn’t have to be Sun Tzu to have figured this out. The trick is not to look suspicious. You know, make them watch one hand…instead of the one that’s ripping them off. The folks on The Hill noticed, (more…) Read more
