In other words, the government can’t decide that one type of speech is more worth protecting than any other. Once again, just like back in 2012 in the Hosanna-Tabor case, the Supreme Court has come out unanimously in a decision favoring a little church’s rights. In this case, it’s right to free speech. Representing the plaintiffs in Reed vs. Gilbert, Alliance Defending Freedom scored a victory in this eight year long ordeal. Because in Gilbert, Arizona, see, somebody decided that... Read more

Let’s just say that in the case of the fire at the Church of the Multiplication of the Loaves and Fishes, that occurred early this morning in the lakeside town of Tagba, ISIS, Muslims, or the other usual suspects,  aren’t even on the list of potential perpetrators. Roll clip, (more…) Read more

Are you on vacation yet? The funny thing about vacations is that when on holiday from the world, and from the pressures of time, it’s quite easy to see all manner of things through rose colored glasses. In fact, I would go so far as to say that everything is better when one is on vacation, be it food, music, company, or conversation. Have you noticed this too? For a regular guy, with a blog called Why I Am Catholic, I honestly can’t think of one, single, reason. I mean aside from the obvious one. So how about Because?  No, really. In fact, I reckon I have 445+ posts with titles that begin with the word “because.” That might just be 45,000 words worth of trying to explain it. And you know what? There it is, with peacock feathers, and everthang. It’s supposed to be available come June 5th, or so. More information can be found out about the stamp, and about Ms. O’Connor, right cheer. I’m kinda bummed that it’s the 3 ounce, $.93 variety. Oh well, we’ll buy a few anyway, just for the wonder of it. I kinda miss her horn rimmed glasses, though. Speaking of wonders, you know what’s hilarious? Outfits like Jezebel waxing enthusiastic about a stamp commemorating... Read more

FYI, the good guys took a licking in the last skirmish. You can read the details in The Register. The upshot? The Archdiocese of Washington will likely appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court. Likely to be used as a springboard for the appeal are the following thoughts from the dissent of Judge Janice Rogers Brown, joined by Judge Karen Lecraft Henderson. Therein are some very clear arguments regarding religious liberty. You know, the kind that are deep in history.... Read more
