Basics: the Clarene (Mundane)

Basics: the Clarene (Mundane) April 29, 2014

For the next few weeks, we’ll be delving into the 30 Days of Devotion, a devotional writing project that helps us explore the gods we worship. We will do each of these for each of the Four Gods. If you are an Other Person or exploring the Four Gods, feel free to add your own comments – or join in!

If you have another topic you would like to see written on, you can email me (aine@daoineile.com) or message me on Facebook – but my writing will likely go to one of my other blogs, as we’re focusing on the Otherfaith at this blog for the time being.

Non-Religious Practices

Getting back into the swing of the 30 Days of Devotion, we’re focusing on mundane practices that are associated with the Clarene. We can, of course, make these devotional acts if we dedicate them to her, and she may well instruct us to learn some of her crafts so we may serve her better. Perhaps we simply enjoy doing them, however, and can give our joy to the gods.

Here is a list of activities that are associated with the Clarene (some of which she shares with the other gods in the faith, of course):

  • tea making
  • hammering/crafting/welding
  • gardening
  • animal rearing & slaughtering
  • baking (especially bread)
  • hunting (especially deer)
  • mathematics (especially trigonometry)
  • construction work
  • car mechanics
  • robot mechanics
  • shooting (especially sharpshooting)
  • hiking/biking/river rafting/being active in nature
  • caring for natural hair

Beginning at the bottom, the care for natural hair is something tied to her because she herself has ‘endless locks’ of the most beautiful natural brown hair. It is full of starlight and full of potential.

Her ties to tea making and baking are both because of her hearth connections; she is the tender of the hearth fire, the cook, the chef that makes meals out of only a wish. Her animal rearing and slaughtering connection comes from this place as well. She knows how to butcher meat; she knows how to cook anything placed on her table.

Gardening is tied to similar traits. She tends fields, grows sickly sweet fruits, and she knows how to raise plants to be stronger than anyone else’s. This covers both growing plants for food and herbs or decorative flowers. All blooming and blossoming things are under her domain.

She is just at home in a garage or construction site, hence the ties to welding and crafting as well as mechanics. She doesn’t mind getting greasy. She loves the clink of metal.

Hunting and other active-nature pursuits belong with her as well. Not only is she a competent hunter (and capable with any gun put in her hands), she is capable of traversing the wild safely. The thrill and push of being outdoors is part of her.

Mathematics falls under a mundane practice because of the high amount of mathematicians in her holy House, as well as her insight into it. The women and feminine spirits of the Otherfaith are those that preside over science and math, with whole islands of spirits being dedicate to such pursuits. the Clarene can handle numbers as well as her robotic daughter-son can; she, after all, was the one that made him.
