Pursuing a Dream

So many who know me, know my dream and ideal job is to be able to work in youth ministry at a local church while traveling and speaking to youth… Its taken me a while to muster up the courage to step into the process of making this dream a reality, But thought I’d share how I’m going about it, and things you can also do and keep in mind in pursuing your “dream job”… 1. Pursuing it- How many… Read more

Interns… ugh.

In the summer of 2006, I took on my first internship, I was easily, there worst hire. Literally, I believe to this day that I was there worst hire. Ever. But they kept me there, though it was only for a summer, they pushed through and endured my ignorance, my “know it all” attitude, my frustration towards the church as a whole. And for that I am thankful. And because of that I did grow, and learn from the situation,… Read more

Lessons I’ve learned from shooting (a basketball)…

So those who know me, know I used to be obsessed with basketball. Loved it. Spent hours in the gym shooting, oddly never became a good shooter, but nonetheless that didn’t stop me from trying… When playing in college, they gave all the guards a shooting coach, which was cool, though I don’t think my coach understood, it’s REALLY tough to get a shot off from the end of the bench… but that’s besides the point, this past week I’ve… Read more

We Need More Broken Pastor’s…

Perfect pastors are bad for the church… They model a lifestyle that isn’t realistic, that isn’t true. To put it plainly pastors who appear perfect, aren’t. Their living a lie. Giving off a false perspective. I’ll never forget my first internship, my first Sunday morning the head pastor took the stage, paused, and went on to say, “For the past few weeks I’ve been battling depression.” I’m not sure how much of that message I would have remembered, if it… Read more

Youth Ministry Throwback…

It’s weird that 1997 was 14 years ago… though the hair and style isn’t relevant, Yaconelli’s response to the question is still very relevant and applicable, I love when he says, “Youth Ministry is about creating memories in kids, and when you do that you ruin their lives. See I think Jesus ruins our lives…” check it out: For those who don’t know who Mike Yaconelli is, he’s known as the “Grandfather of Youth Ministry” his story is pretty cool…… Read more

Hillsong – Like Incense/Sometimes By Step

Hillsong – Like Incense/Sometimes By Step “Oh God you are my God…” Oddly enough this song has reminded me of 1 Peter 4:12-13 which says, “Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed.” It’s taken me a while, and is still very… Read more

Youth Ministry: Looking at Success Differently

When I read through scripture, so many times, I see God moving through the little things, and the lowly things, and doing big things with them… But the thing is some of the people he chose to move through never got to see the fruit from their efforts… Sometimes in ministry we don’t get the opportunity to see the fruits produced from the efforts we put out… How do we know what success is then? How do we know what… Read more
