What Mom Wants for Her Birthday

Brandon Thibodeaux for The New York Times

Mom isn’t asking for cake and presents.

What does she want for her birthday yesterday? Well, she spent the day at the memorial service for Chris Kyle,  the “American Sniper” and Navy SEAL she and dad were lucky enough to get to know. He was killed last week at a shooting range by another former soldier. Here’s what she posted:

Todd and I are in Dallas today to attend Chris Kyle’s memorial and funeral service. I find it sad to see that flags aren’t flying at half staff for this American hero. We’re surrounded today by American patriots here in Texas – by Chris’ fellow veterans and active duty warriors. In honor of them, I hope our commander in chief pays his respects in some gesture of condolence for their comrade in arms who sacrificed so much to keep him and all of us safe.

We may never know to what extent Chris kept us free or how many lives he saved by his brave actions in the line of fire. But his fellow warriors know how important he was. My son Track couldn’t meet Chris when Todd and I first met him because Track was deployed to Iraq. Then when we got to know Chris even better, our son was deployed in Afghanistan. We’ve met a lot of people in recent years, and Track has been privileged to meet them as well. But he said about Chris, “Mom, he’s the ONE person in the entire world I would be star-struck to meet. He’s it.”

God bless this great warrior. Let us keep his wife and children in our prayers, and may we never forget him or his sacrifice.

Later, she added:

It was a beautiful memorial service for Chris Kyle at Cowboys Stadium this afternoon. What a celebration of a great life! All in all, is there a finer human being who has crossed the 50-yard line star in Texas than Chris Kyle? Please click on the following link for information on how we can help out the families of Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield. As patriotic Americans, this is a tangible way to show appreciation and support for good people. On a personal note, I thank you who’ve sent birthday greetings today, and it would be awesome if you’d join me in supporting the families of these heroes by helping them out!

Here are ideas on how we can remember and honor Chris Kyle.

He was truly an American hero in every respect.

I hope your Mom had a wonderful birthday even though she was attending the service for an extraordinary man. God bless you and all of your family. God bless wife, children, and all of his loved ones.

    Dear Bristol,
I am a huge fan and supporter of your mother. I missed an opportunity to meet her at a book signing in Iowa a few years back, I regret it to this day. I am happy that your mother was able to attend the services for this great American. It’s a crying shame that our “president” can’t find the words to acknowledge this incredible hero yet flags flew at half staff for Whitney Houston. Please pass along my thanks to your mother and father for traveling all the way here to Texas to attend this important memorial service.

Keith, Rick Perry should have ordered flags in the state of Texas to be flown at half staff. Governor Christie ordered flags flown at half staff for Whitney Houston. Governors make the call with regard to statewide mourning. Presidents call for national mourning. There are very specific rules about this. President Obama had nothing to do with the decision to recognize Whitney Houston’s death in NJ.

Well said Andrea M! And I agree!

  • Thomas Hubbard

I’m on board with you Sarah!

  • TrueBlue

Yes, I too wonder why Governor Perry didn’t order all flags in the state of Texas to be flown at half staff.

Chris Kyle was an American Hero, and the News Media seems to have forgotten about him already.
But when Travon Martin was killed, the News Media thought he deserved every day coverage for a month or more.
The News Media needs to take a Closer Look at their Values and their Priorities .
Obama should have at least mentioned Chris in his SOTU last night.
    Chris Kyle, Rest In Peace.

The rumbling of “We The People” is getting stronger already. The hero Chris Kyle is another of the honest grassroots patriots arrows we can carry in our quiver in the battle to take back our Country and reinstate our Constitution. Govnor Palin please lead.

It makes me sick sick sick to know that Pres Obama refuses to acknowledge the heroic life this true patriot lived. I believe Obama has no regard for our military past or present. BUT, if it had been a Muslim that had died, we’d be hearing about it all over the news, every channel.. This Faker in Chief needs to be impeached, and not soon enough. PALIN 2016!

I stand with Sarah on this. Kyle represented to me all that was good and beautiful about America, so does the Palin family.

Your mom and dad are so patriotic; I love it. In a few years she is going to make history, prophet Kim Clement prophesied. Maybe she will be the first woman Vice President. She has great leadership qualities that Jesus place in her. These qualities will not be wasted. I guess we have to be patient and wait on the Lord’s timing. Also he prophesied there will be a new party.

Bristol, are you and Gino broken up? (sob, sob) Just be sensitive to the Holy Spirit. Jesus will tell you all you need to know. “Heaven’s Choice” will be yours. It will be a lovely marriage and family.
