Who Shut Down the Government?

I’m not that all involved in politics, but what I see is making me so angry.  In case you haven’t seen my mom’s Facebook posts, she linked to Thomas Sowell’s article in Townhall:

Even when it comes to something as basic, and apparently as simple and straightforward, as the question of who shut down the federal government, there are diametrically opposite answers, depending on whether you talk to Democrats or to Republicans.

There is really nothing complicated about the facts. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted all the money required to keep all government activities going — except for ObamaCare.

This is not a matter of opinion. You can check the Congressional Record.

The spiteful and childish Obama doesn’t get his way, and petulantly takes it out on the American people…

    http://dailycaller.com/2013/10/02/seven-stupid-things-the-govt-spent-money-on-during-the-shutdown/

  • otlset

I believe he did. He’s just that narcissistic and petulant and willing to go to great lengths, even at the expense of the American people, to bolster his image and ‘legacy’. Everything is politics to him — he’s about as far-removed from a true ‘public servant’ as you can get. He is in fact a soft tyrant. A soft LYING tyrant.

Lol, and his ‘legacy’ so far is the failed and much-despised stinkbomb legislative attempt to initiate socialized medicine, aka the ACA or “Obamacare”. It stinks so much nobody even knew what they were passing in approving the bill, and they’re still making things up as they go along while insurance rates continue to skyrocket in response and make liars of those who lied straight-faced to the American public that it would reduce costs and improve and extend care for all. Lies lies lies (the catchwords of the Obama regime). The most screwed-up and unfortunately wide-reaching piece-o-crap legislation ever foisted on the nation.

    • Jeff

Then you are a bigger idiot than I imagined. Its funny because conservatives don’t even realize how foolish they look when they make complaints like this.

Like the mechanical bull story that Obama get blamed for. The truth to that story is the National Guard in Utah uses mechanical bulls at fairs for recruitment purposes. They made the request and the US Army approved it. Now if you really think our President presides over EVERY single purchase (this was 47,174 dollars) then you really are delusional. You do realize how big this country is don’t you?

Oh and fun fact…the order was cancelled. I’m sure Drudge and Fox News quickly reported that fact right?

      • Jeff

Isn’t it interesting how suddenly so many conservatives are worried about our parks? Pretty much all i’ve ever heard is complaints about their costs and why we need so many and can’t we close them. Ah…but now they are a “national treasure” and dare I say a birthright to all freedom loving, god-fearing, gun owning, heterosexual, white, male, entitled, spoiled, childish — oh I could go on all day.

        • LMA

My husband was injured fighting in Afghanistan. His military disability check is in limbo. Real people are paying real costs for this shutdown. I can’t believe people even fell for Palin and Cruz’s stunt in DC this weekend.

          • Jeff

Agreed LMA. A complete stunt for no other purpose than to try and further their political careers. After the disastrous performances during the 2012 primary I didn’t think the GOP could come up with anybody worse than Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Michelle Bachmann….but no looks like we have a new cast of crazies to take their place. I can’t wait.

      • otlset

He is head of his administration. The buck stops there. And yes, I believe he’s a childish, spiteful person very capable of approving and even directing all the mean-spirited actions the government is now doing to punish Americans in hopes they’ll be stupid like you and your ilk and blame it on Republicans. He’s used to getting his own way, especially after conning people and slacking off like he’s done all his phony life. He’s a curse on the country, elevated to office by the ignorant and stupid and gullible and greedy and racist.

  • Richard Smit

    No, you are lying!

    • Jeff

      LOL!

  • Richard Smit

Great post Bristol! and pay attention on the haters!

  • David

Yeah, if you only listen to Obama and the Democrats and the Democrat News Networks, the only thing that you will hear is ” The Republicans are the ones who Shutdown the Government” or ” The Tea Party caused the Shutdown” … Obama and Harry Reid and the News Media are playing their Blame Game again and Lying to the American People as usual.
Obama is Closing National Parks just because he is an A** H**e, and he likes to Abuse his Power.
It is costing the Government “More Money” … to Close the Parks … than it would cost to Keep the Parks Open.

  • Jill

the thing is, the ACA is LAW. There was no withholding of money to be done, there were/are no negotiations to be had, no compromises to be made. It’s LAW. They had no right to withhold funding for what had already been legally made LAW. The Supreme Court held it up, too. So think whatever you want, but it’s the teabaggers who shut down our government. There was nothing else the President could do – what they were trying to do was against the LAW.

    • otlset

It’s socialism. It’s counter to the basic principles of individual freedom and *limited * government our country was founded upon. It’s a job-killer and a threat to our economy. The law is a horrible mistake our country is only just beginning to suffer from. It MUST be repealed eventually.

The president could seek ways to trim government so there would be no “shutdown” (which is proving to be only a ‘shutdown’ of 17% of government), but no, he stubbornly sticks to his spendthrift, bloated, wasteful big-government liberal agenda, trying instead to make Americans suffer by doing so and hoping fools like you will blame Republicans.

    • dmac8889

You are oblivious to the Republicans Constitutional standing. Of course they had the Constitutional standing to do what they did. However, Obama has had no Constitutional standing to the changes he has made to the law. Obama CLOSED the 17% of the Gov’t that got closed, and he is enjoying it, because his Lapog Media is blaming the Republicans. American people voted for a Republican Congress. Nothing else needs to be said.

  • tim

    So Jill

So by that definition you would have supported slavery back in the early 1800s??
    It Was The LAW.

    • Jill

of course I would not have. Slavery is wrong on every level there is to be wrong on. No comparison. I won’t even go there with you.

      • dmac8889

Obamacare is wrong on every level. That is why not one Republican in Congress will vote to fund it, and the American people don’t want it. Obama has changed it 14 times since it was UNCONSTITUTIONALLY passed. Obama unconstitutionally allowed the largest Corporations an exemption to the bill. He gave Congressional workers a taxpayer subsidy so they would be exempt from the Exchanges. He is looking to negotiate an exemption to Unions. So Republicans decide they aren’t going to fund a law Obama changed so many times that the bill no longer resembles the same law that jammed down the American people throat. They were sent to Congress to end Obamacare. A closing of a small portion of non-essential Gov’t is certainly worth paying the price, than being forced to support a law that would fundamentally alter this nation going forward. So let’s NOT go there.

  • Jill

she deleted a few of mine, too. I referred to her multiple babies and L and S and T. Ha ha ha ha it’s so obvious what is going on here.

  • TheOneTruth_

It was the republicans idea, it was their strategy to use the threat to try and get what they don’t have the votes for. Of course they will get blamed, it was their idea. They will and are owning it. They are willing to threaten the country to try and get what they want instead of trying to win elections. That is how america works, you win elections, you get the votes you get your agenda passed. You do not get to hold a gun to the country’s head and expect them to do what you want if you dont have the votes. That is what the republicans are doing, that is why they are getting the blame.

    • Beaverton

Strange that after shutting down the Government, the Republicans started bitching about everything that was shut down. The stupidity of those folks is hard to comprehend. I wonder how long it will take before they realize that blaming others for their actions is not working. Americans with functioning brains are not buying it.

      • nanjac

Obama designated as to what is shut down.

        • dmac8889

He has the Presidential Executive Privilege to open ANYTHING on a temporary basis. Is that Proof enough?

      • otlset

Obama could seek to reduce government spending and avoid a shutdown. But his personality is warped by his enormous ego, and he apparently will allow (and I believe even encourage) his administration to make Americans suffer to get his way to bloat government even more past its means, and make it seem like Republicans, who realize the dangers of getting into even more debt, are to blame. He’s narcissistic, and thus mean-spirited apparently just to get his way like a spoiled child. There’s something really wrong with him.

And you back and defend this spiteful creep.

        • Beaverton

How terrible it must be to live in such fear & ignorance. Your portrayal of the President is what the fear mongers have tried to get susceptible and naive individuals like you to believe and has absolutely no basis in reality. You seem to have swallowed their hyperbole garbage hook, line & sinker. Fortunately, the majority of Americans are smart enough to see through the lies and innuendo being peddled by these idiots and know exactly who is to blame for making the country the laughing stock of the world.

          • otlset

Hey dude, let’s shoot for 20 trillion in debt. Should only take a year or two at the rate Obama’s throwing the dough out. It’s cool though, cause Obama’s cool, you know has a nice smile, and hey, isn’t Obamacare about, you know, caring and stuff?

          • dmac8889

REALLY? It is not Obama they are laughing at, or the LAPDOG Media , his propaganda Machine that the American people stopped listening to? It is you that lives in LALALAND, exactly where this media wants you. A LOW-Information person.

          • dmac8889

I love it. It was Bush they hated because of all the debt he added. Now we have a President that doubled Bush’s Debt, and when Obamacare takes hold, we will quadruple that Debt within five years after he leaves office.

        • dmac8889

It is obvious after five years that Obama is not interested in the average American as he is in growing his Political Party. He has the slowest growing economy in a five year period in history, including the Great Depression. After five years Reagan had created tens of millions of private sector jobs and an economy growing at 7%, with an inherited economy that was worse than Obama’s. Reagan understood what mattered, The American people, and HOW to get them back on their feet. Obama is a disaster: PERIOD!

      • dmac8889

Sorry it was Obama that shut the Gov’t down. Republicans gave him a Constitutional Resolution and he told them: “I’m not talking to you”. So the Gov’t gets shut down, or the Republicans are forced to FUND a program they didn’t vote for, and the American people don’t want. Do you believe a Democrat controlled Congress would vote to FUND a law only Republicans voted for? Really? Name it., Answer: Never!!! . Both sides are right for the people that sent them to Washington. We have a law that will fundamentally change the very foundation of our nation going forward. It has grabbed more POWER over the American people, than any other law in history. A shutdown of 17% of Government (actually Republicans funded 99%) is not remotely as important as the decision to have this law continue to wreck havoc on the freedom of taxpayer Americans. I’m not really concerned about the shutdown, and anyone who is truly informed would come to this same conclusion. American people voted for this confrontation, now they have to live with it.

  • Renny

One thing this has done is put liberal idiocy on display. Just read some of the comments. You’re living in their heads rent free, Bristol along with your mom. Well, there is a lot of space there.

  • Jesse G Lueck

seems like both side are to blame, but only the Democrats won’t play nice w/ the Republicans http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2013/09/30/absolutely-everything-you-need-to-know-about-how-the-government-shutdown-will-work/

  • Sue B

We have a socialist dictator for a president who wants his way or the highway. Your Mom has been so right about many things ever since she became involved in politics. It’s time for impeachment. Of him and the entire administration.

  • tim

    Jill

All I am trying to say is just because it’s The Law that does not make it right or good,

    • Will

Jill you are so right. My opion is it is an unjust law. The supreme court should no longer be allowed to make case from the legislature it should be sent back to the legislature. However, in this case the Supreme stated something was Constitutional though it was not. With that said 9 people should have so much power over 350 million.

  • http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJBG9zqKlqSMeoGWk8Sabog iizthatiiz

    thanks for posting Bristol

  • 1MiddleRoader

I’m angry too, Bristol, but I’m encouraged to see you thinking a bit independently and diverging from your Mom’s point of view: “Let government chill for a little while”; a shutdown will allow Americans to realize “how irrelevant the federal government could and should be in our lives.”
Even if you accept the premise that the Dems are solely responsible for the shutdown, which I don’t, isn’t is odd that the right wing, especially before the shutdown, seemed to be pretty OK with it??? They called it a “slimdown,” said that the last shutdown benefitted Republicans in the election, etc.

    • dmac8889

Obviously Obama is OK with it. That is why he is not negotiating.

  • Bruce Corkhill

Thank you Bristol, your mom is spot on. Unfortunately we have a large segment of Low Information voters that NBC, CBS, ABC and Cable News outlets cater to and carry the Democratic Water to these Low Information Voters. It is also unfortunate we lack Republican Leadership outside of Cruz and Lee that can create talking points to combat the mis-information. Thank God for your mom and her continuing efforts to use her platform to inform us.

    • otlset

Well looky here, a low-information voter!

    • dmac8889

      Totally agree!!!!

  • Jeff

    What’s wrong with her face?

    • dmac8889

      You’re a loser

      • Jeff

Thanks dmac! God Bless You and thanks for being a great American Patriot!

  • Renny

You’ve hit a nerve Bristol. Really got the lib trolls upset. :) Thx, for proving my point ‘Jeff’.

    • Jeff

Us liberals are hardly worried about bristol’s influence…and her mom is the gift that just keeps on giving. She’s not even smart enough to remember the phrase “we need a leader not a tweeter”. Jesus christ it even rhymes. How dense is this woman!

      • otlset

        Nice grammar dummy!

        • Jeff

          Thanks loser!

  • LMA

Sarah Palin issued a full-throated call for this shutdown! She’s to blame, among other detestable hypocrites.

    http://www.webpronews.com/sarah-palin-stop-the-hysterics-over-government-shutdown-2013-09

    • 1MiddleRoader

      And more…http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2013/09/30/Palin-Says-GOP-Shouldn-t-Fear-Shutdown-Let-Gov-t-Chill-for-a-Little-Bit

As a side note, the article states that Palin ” also emphasized that if government employees are deemed “non-essential,” perhaps they shouldn’t be on the payroll anyway.” I re-listened to the clip and no “perhaps” in there. So either a slight reporting error, or even Breitbart.com is trying to tone down her comment. BTW, I used to work in an office with a lot of active military and vets,(and civilians, too). Many of the vets are deemed “non-essential,” therefore, in an indirect way, Palin is dishonoring them and the hard work they do. (which is part of why I find her comment so offensive.)

      • LMA

I remember that her son served, and that’s definitely honorable, but I know a few vets, and they do not like it when armchair patriots wave flags in their faces and shout halfhearted platitudes about patriotism and freedom. And Sarah Palin doesn’t even know flag code. Have you ever seen that video of her signing an American flag for a fan? That’s totally against the law!

    • otlset

There IS NO SHUTDOWN, THERE NEVER WAS, AND NEVER WAS GOING TO BE! Geez liberals are so thick-headed, and unfortunately, so gullible to the lamestream media propaganda efforts.

      • LMA

“There IS NOT SHUTDOWN!” is saying no one. Ever. Except for the lone Bristol Palin fan from his/her cheap seat in the fringe…

        • otlset

wut? This post makes no sense. Par for the course?

  • 1MiddleRoader

Talk about using vets as pawns–The Natl Park Services has been letting vets in to visit the Memorial since 2 Oct: http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/Monuments-Closed-Shutdown-Vets-Allowed-into-Closed-World-War-II-Memorial-226152471.html
I agree that vets should be allowed access, as a humanitarian exception to the rule. Just like death benefits should be paid to survivors of the fallen. (which, apparently they are now). And if states want to make private arrangements to open the national parks in their states that’s fine.
But when Sen. Cruz says all the National Parks should be open- what part of shutdown does he not understand?

    • otlset

Not you too Mid. Only about 18% of the gubmint is “shutdown”. The rest runs as usual. We have billions coming in every week to the IRS, so even the crappy “default” scaremongering is bogus. The lamestream media is NOT your friend.

      • LMA

Here is the ONLY source I found to corroborate your “18%” claim. It’s a Tea Party blog. http://teapartycheer.com/2013/10/government-shutdown-a-boon-for-americans-the-war-on-energy-has-a-lull/

You people have no clue and are about as subtle in your approach as an atom bomb. “If you don’t like it, get rid of it.” I figure my husband left blood on the battlefield, he earned his military disability check (which he may or may not receive), whether armchair patriots like yourself think he’s “essential” or not.

        • Jeff

LOL! otlset posts something from a tea party blog. This is the mentality we are dealing with in this country.

          • otlset

Nope, not from any tea party blog [I am not a member of any “Tea Party” (as if it’s some big unified organization — like the lamestream media would have you believe, lol), and I never visit such blogs ever. I only come here to have sport with the numerous liberal spiteful ignoramuses who seem to gravitate to this free-to-post site to crap on everything].

Funny how government services just keep on rolling, except of course for the ones like the Park Service and other high-profile functions that have been instructed by this administration to spitefully keep people out, to make them ‘feel the pain’ in hopes that their constituents — the low-information voters — will believe the Republicans are responsible. Your phony squatting in the White House is really a mean-spirited dude to do this, to take it out on the American people and make them suffer while blaming it on others. He’s really a thin-skinned, narcissistic cad.

          • Jeff

All the power your side has left is to call people names. HA HA HA HA HA AH

Oh and feel free to post your link to the 18% CLAIM. Surely you didn’t just make it up?

          • LMA

I’d be interested to see a link then, otlset, since you don’t visit Tea Party blogs and you don’t believe what the MSM reports. The 18% claim is not easily found online. I’m open to considering credible sources.

          • otlset

Oops, did I say 18%? Actually I had heard the 17% estimate figure, but since I wasn’t sure, I erred on the generous side. The truth is most citizens weren’t in the least bit affected by the ‘shutdown’, despite the hyped-up scare stories from your state-run lamestream media.

            http://washingtonexaminer.com/wheres-sense-of-crisis-in-a-17-percent-government-shutdown/article/2536862

          • Jeff

Wait who was doing the hyping? I see you failed to comment on the TRUE story with the vets at the memorials.

  • Guest
    • 1MiddleRoader

I think you meant to post your clip under the DS awareness post (unless you are making a satirical comment on the shutdown and how both sides should embrace each other. :)
But I saw the same clip a bit ago, and it is sweet. I actually thought about posting it myself.

        • Jeff

          LOL!

Poor desperate little wards of the state, LOL. I posted the link under the thread about Bristol and her son having coffee.

  • Kristy Patullo

IMHO, both. The difference is, the Republicans are doing it for all the right
reasons and the Democrats for all the wrong reasons. Hope the Republicans win
this fight. Our nation depends on it.

    • Jeff

Hilarious. Your avatar is a picture of christ on the cross and you are mad that millions of poor people are getting health care. Typical.

      • dmac8889

They were NEVER denied healthcare. TYPICAL Low-Information person.

        • Jeff

Who said anything about DENYING them healthcare. They can’t AFFORD it….and this group include children and senior citizens…my what selfish groups. Lets bring back child labor and put Mee Maw back to work! God Bless America!

  • Jeff

“The point is that with each passing day the debt limit is not increased the more damage it will do to our economy. If lawmakers don’t raise the debt limit by November 1, the economy will fall back into recession. If they can’t raise it by the end of November, we will be dooming our economy and the entire global economy to a wrenching economic downturn with implications for years if not decades to come.” Mike Zandi chief economist for Moody’s and economic policy advisor for the McCain PALIN campaign. But sure I will believe you fools here that there’s no harm in defaulting. Idiots.

    • otlset

He’s exaggerating. All we need to do is make some cuts after we pay off the obligations others have foolishly made, and that can be done over time, without foolishly raising the nation’s credit card limit — again. Geez, where will this madness stop? 30 trillion? 50 trillion? Our children’s children will curse this administration for enslaving them to pay for it, if it even CAN be paid by that time.

  • Jeff
    • Jeff

“there’s one big problem with their protest: Veterans streaming into
Washington to see the monument don’t really face any obstacles in their
visits, and many complain that they are being used for political gain.”

      • Jeff

“Black metal barricades may indeed be wrapped around the nine-year-old site on the National Mall. But the National Park Service rangers charged with protecting the monument also have been under orders since the day after the shutdown’s start to move the gates out of the way when any World War II veterans arrive.”

“We’ve had no problems at all, said Jim McLaughlin, a lead organizer for the Honor Flight Network, the nonprofit group drawn into the dispute when several GOP lawmakers accompanied its guests during their first visit to the memorial hours after the shutdown started.”

        • Jeff

“McLaughlin said in an interview that his group has been able to bring
several hundred more veterans to see the site since Oct. 1.”

“They’ve been very cooperative and very polite”

  • Jeff

When you’ve lost Uncle Crazy you know its over. So glad Sarah hitched herself to this debacle.

“The Republicans have got to wave the white flag and say, ‘We fought a
good fight and now it’s over. They cannot shut the government down and
then bring about a default. We can’t do it. I mean, it would be
devastating economically to every human being and the Republicans just
can’t get tarred with that.” Pat Robertson.

  • otlset

I’ll take them over the liar Obama and his corrupt cronies and administration ANY DAY! I can’t stand people who lie right to my face, especially politicians elected to SERVE the American people. Pack of liars is what the administration is.

    • Jeff

Conservatives have drug the republican party down with them. There will be no recovery for your side after today. Maybe you should move.

      • otlset

Actually I’m itching to ditch the GOP now, and become independent or join a new party. I’m waiting to see what Sarah does. If she abandons the GOP, I’ll follow — me and many others I guarantee you. I’m tired of RINOs caving on principle and fighting the GOP establishment and their ‘approved’ candidates that they do all they can behind the scenes to get elected (or rather nominated, heh, for eventual defeat). I realize that it may take years for an independent party to catch on, but I’d much rather vote for someone I actually believe in and lose, rather than voting for the “lesser of two evils” and then lose anyway. I’ll never vote for squishes again.

        • Jeff

          That’s great news otlset!

  • Jeff

Lol. Bristols mother thinks you make margaritas with lemons. Wow.

    • Jeff

Reminds me of a good joke:

Todd and Sarah are having dinner…

Todd (to waiter): “I’ll have the steak.”
Waiter (to Todd): “And for your vegetable?”
Todd: “Oh, she’ll have the steak also.”

      • otlset

“And would you like the fruitcake for dessert?”
“Heck no, I get enough of that troll Jeff on Bristol’s blog!”

        • Jeff

Nice! I’m really starting to be impressed with your responses!!!!

    • otlset

You can. You can make them with bananas, strawberries, any kind of fruit. Be creative.
