Modern day creationists and proponents of so-called intelligent design–same thing, really–are still using specious arguments first put forth by scientists who believed in the basic fact of evolution.

These were the theistic evolutionists.

No naturalist who truly and fairly evaluates the empirical evidence for evolution could honestly deny its truth. Indeed, after the publication of On the Origin of Species in 1859, evolution rapidly gained almost universal acceptance…many decades before natural selection did.

Late nineteenth century scientists who couldn’t bear to relinquish a role for God in creation grasped for ways to save the ultimate role of God in creation. Their modern brethren–the Francis Collins’s of today’s world–still have to compartmentalize their beliefs from the scientific evidence they know to be true.

You would think their brains would go kablooey like the computers in Star Trek when fed contradictory information. Does not compute! Does not compute!
