October Gift: Renew Our Rosary Appreciation — UPDATED

The wonderful Dominican Nuns of the Monastery of Our Lady of the Rosary have produced this really lovely video to help us appreciate the Holy Rosary and to deepen our abilities to ponder the 15 fundamental mysteries they entail. I enjoyed it very much, especially the lovely soprano voices!

UPDATE: The sisters did a quick adjustment to the video as they note here. It’s been updated here. Sister Emailer informs me that the first version was “elongated” which she didn’t exactly mind (hey, a girl likes to look tall and lean, even if she is a nun!) and the new version is in HD.

UPDATE II: Sarah Reinhard writes of the continual lessons of these repeated prayers

On my former job, I once walked into the office and said, “Guess what? The Pope added five mysteries to the Rosary!”

“What’s the punchline?” my friend asked. Throughout our lifetimes, there had always been fifteen mysteries of the Rosary– so of course it seemed like a joke.

It’s not a joke, though. There are twenty mysteries now! :-)

I like the “fifteen fundamental mysteries.” Very nice way to refer to them, too. :)

There’s a campaign that just started today, initiated by Filipino Catholics, to praying one rosary for one nation a day from Oct 10, 2011 to May 30, 2012. If you’re already praying the rosary daily, it wouldn’t hurt to add another intention.

One of the biggest surprises to me as a new Catholic is how much I enjoy praying the Rosary. The focus needed, the quiet contemplation – it is a meditation and I find that when I truly focus my intentions, my mind will work out so many problems related to my intentions. And I have been blessed on so many occasions with messages from God during the Rosary. It is such a beautiful gift that is so easy to receive.

Forgive me, but not being a Catholic I am somewhat confused here. How many mysteries are there in the Rosary prayers, and are some considered of greater importance?

[The Rosary consists, fundamentally, of the Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries, which each are developed through five meditations. The Joyful Mysteries, for instance, are The Annunciation, The Visitation The Birth of Our Lord, The Presentation of the Lord, The Finding of Our Lord in the Temple. Pope John Paul II recommended a fourth group of mysteries, "The Luminous Mysteries" which all pertain to the revelation of the divinity of Jesus within his earthly ministry. You can read more about the rosary here and here, and if you look in my sidebar, you'll see podcasts of me praying each of these mysteries, which you are welcome to use! -admin]

I love the rosary but I find it hard to finish the all mysteries
