Yes, those are goldfish. I wanted to start this post on a mature note. This is probably going to offend someone, but I can’t help it. I hate the word breasts. I sat down tonight to write a post about how today, for the third fourth fifth time in a row one of my neighbors popped by and I greeted them bra-less, with unwashed hair, in the same T-shirt I was wearing yesterday, having thrown up not ten minutes before,... Read more

Sorry for the silencio this week. My parents came for a visit, which was awesome, and then Charlotte and the Ogre came down with the flu, which was not awesome. So let’s focus on the former, yeah? We had ice cream at the Bean, dinner at the Pub, went to the beach, hung out with bikers, and Liam got a haircut. Here’s a brief glimpse, in photo form, of our weekend: Straciatella….yum Liam with his favorite toy from the Bean.... Read more

…pretty much every day now. In July of 2010, when I started this blog, I was indeed both pregnant and barefoot. But since August 11 of 2010, I haven’t been. I am now. Again. And let me tell you, I don’t know how I survive first trimesters. The first trimester, for me, is never a time of funny little cravings and mild nausea in the morning. No, my friends, the first trimester is a time of vomit. Day in, day... Read more

Errughh. (<——— that noise is supposed to convey exhaustion, disgust and defeat after a difficult week. How'd I do? The creation of new interjections is not an exact science, you know.) I am so happy that it’s Friday. Or I would be, if I could muster up the energy to be happy. Mostly I’m feeling a sort of half-hearted, half-dead gratitude that the days of the week revolved like they always do and we’re here, on Friday, instead of back... Read more

It’s 9:22 a.m. and I’ve already managed to neglect my children physically, give them negative disciplinary reinforcement, and lay down the foundation for a lifetime of spiritual confusion. Someone should give me an award. These sorts of reprehensible mothering skills can’t be learned or imitated. They only arise out of long years of non-practice. The morning started out so well, too. I made one of those overnight-soaking oatmeal bakes last night for a Valentine’s Day treat. I got up when... Read more

I haven’t been around much this weekend since my fellow bloggers and I have been drafting and re-drafting chapters for Undoing Babel . But when I haven’t been writing, deleting, staring at the computer and crying into my tea about the cruelty that is Writer’s Block, I’ve been following the unfolding HHS mandate altercation with great interest. Here are some great articles on it (and my two personal favorites). I agree with the Bishops. The HHS is still violating the... Read more

Trader Joe’s has opened. Just one minute ago. It may be an hour drive away, sure, but y’all must be crazy if you think I’m not going. TODAY. I’m already dreaming about all the wonderful things Trader Joe’s brought to my life that I have been bereft of in the past six months. The best yellow curry sauce in existence. Whole-wheat naan. Garlic hummus. Pita crackers. Blueberry creme yogurt. Kerrygold butter. (Yeah I can get that at Publix but it’s... Read more

I’ve been meaning to do this for ages, since Larry D first invited me to, but I always forget. Not today. Today I remembered. This is pretty handy for those of us who don’t/didn’t have much (read: any) time to blog today. Larry says that this is the “testosterone version of 7 Quick Takes” and that I’ll get my man card punched for joining, for which I cannot wait. And just for fun, and maybe to take the testosterone down... Read more

Several people on facebook linked to this article yesterday, and then Sally blogged about it, and I read it and have found my world shifting utterly beneath my feet. I’m thinking of doing a series of posts on it, actually. It’s all stuff that’s been brewing in my head for a while but the article finally brought everything into focus in a way that made sense. It’s even causing me to partially dismiss my well-publicized hatred of almost all things... Read more
