Teaching a Boy to Fish

Teaching a Boy to Fish April 25, 2012

You know the old saying, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day.  Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for the rest of his life.”

Well, my son Tripp hasn’t caught his first fish yet, but we’re trying our hardest to make sure he enjoys the Palin family tradition of fishing in the great state of Alaska!

He’ll break a few hearts, he is just beautiful. Your right he has grown. I bet when he does catch he’s first fish you’ll have a hard time taking the pole away from him. Good to see you happy.

    Your Friend

  • Debbie

Can’t believe he is already up to his belt. Is he three feet now? If so, double it and he’ll be 6ft plus. Nice strapping boy. I don’t know about that smile though. He is gonna melt hearts everywhere!

    Hugs & Kisses!

  • Susan

Enjoy every moment with your little man, Bristol. He is just scrumptious.

  • Helen Stosky

Oh WOW! Hard to believe he is getting so big. I remember my days fishing with my dad on my grandpa’s pond. Such memorable days. I also use to fish with my late husband and we went out almost every day that we could, this is one sport I miss doing and miss doing it with him.

  • Joseph

Oh my gosh! He has gotten so big; he’s getting taller!

  • Watching a future Patriot warrior of the Palin clan grow…

  • I’m sure he’ll be telling stories about the BIG one that got away very soon! My daddy started taking me out on the boat before I could walk. He tells me the first fish I caught was bigger than me. I’m sure he actually did more of the catching part but I know I reeled in some line! 😉 And I’ve been fishing ever since. All kinds including this little halibut in your beautiful Alaska when we went out of Homer back in 2005. (click on the website link) Fishing is a great thing to bring families together. I’m sure you’ll post Tripp’s first whopper!

  • Isabella

He is gorgeous. Your family has the beautiful gene!

  • Curt Wilson

Birthday number 74 is almost here and I still love fly fishing for trout in the streams and lakes in the high Sierra’s. Someday, I would love to fish in Alaska where the fish are much bigger. I’ll bet Tripp soon catches his first fish.

  • Thomas Hubbard

When I was a young teen and moved here to Washington I had never seen the salmon running. After leaving school I walked home and took a short cut across a creek walked across a log looked down and saw more fish then I ever seen, flipped out and dove in to catch one. When I arrived home I was covered in mud and soaking wet in my new school cloths and my mother flipped out and said son have you done. I took her out side and said look here, we’re having fish for dinner.
This is the honest truth not a fish story!

  • David Dempsey

I hope Tripp’s first fish is a big one. Keep us posted with more pictures.

  • Leeny

Beautiful little boy! And what a gorgeous place for him to get to grow up in. 🙂

  • otlset

Meanwhile his grandma knows, just like the rest of us do, there are even bigger fish to fry — including the whopper in the White House! This calls for a hungry barracuda!

  • Amy

It’s SO true! Keep on teaching your miniature fisherman to fish, Bristol…

  • kate

What a charming picture. I so love fishing and Tripp will be over the moon when he catches his first fish. When I was little we made hand lines with 6 hooks or so on them and under supervision flung them out into the mouth of the river where it joined the ocean (I lived in the pacific islands). We caught a surprising amount of flounder and herrings and when you are so young it was so exciting. Good luck to you and your family and especially to Tripp.

  • Margie Wilson-Mars

So sweet! My son and daughter-in-law are great ‘outdoors people’ and my 5-year-old grandson just got his first ‘big boy’ fishing pole (ie: NOT with Sponge Bob on it) and he’s thrilled! You’re a great mother and lucky to have such a close family.
