Name This Dog: Here are the Top Three Options!

Name This Dog: Here are the Top Three Options! June 5, 2012

Thank you for all of your suggestions below and on Facebook!  I love the fact that you guys would take time out to help us figure out the perfect name.

For a little background, this is the dog I got for Gino! He’s a Newfoundland and the biggest puppy I’ve ever seen.  (I think Gino’s getting a glimpse of parenthood…  and no, we aren’t living together!)

So, out of all the names we’ve gotten, I think my favorites are:

Clifford (ha!)

What do you guys think of these?  I’ll keep you posted!

Since this is a dog for Gino, I suggest the name Nightstick. It will remind him that if he should never do Todd & Sarah Palin’s little girl wrong. “Boom, taste my nightstick”.

  • I love the name Raider! Definitely go with that.

  • Jen Shaffer

  • Moira

I think Riot is a terrific name! Raider is my second choice. Clifford would only work if he was red.

  • criss willi

He looks like a “Bear”. Name him Bear.

  • Shelley

    Oh Clifford is perfect!!!

  • Devin Mccain

  • kdolphins

    Brewster Jackson

  • Riot!! 🙂 so cute…

I would avoid a name that brings to mind a football team as well as a serial killer…

And Clifford is a mouthful; can you see yourself yelling “Here, Clifford!”?

  • Sarah

Clifford! Because you know you’ll want to give him a nickname and you can call him “Cliff” for short!

  • Emily

Clifford, for sure! Adorable puppy, he’s going to be huge!

  • Chad Rodgers

Emily is right, Clifford is perfect!

  • Malon

Raider is good but……. I think “Oscar” would be better

  • Kristen

What about Redford, or Reagan (as in Ronald) 🙂 🙂

  • As a San Diego Charger fan, I can not encourage you in any way, shape, or form to choose the name “Raider.” Please, oh please Bristol! Don’t choose that name. 😉 He sure is darling!

  • Katie DiFrancesco

  • Christian

Raider he will be raiding the house for food for years.

  • Paul Kodada

I like the name Ranger or Tucker.

  • Samantha

I love Raider 🙂 The puppy is so cute!

  • Just look at that precious face, he’s a sweetheart. I would ask Tripp to come up with a name, children usually have the best names for pets. 🙂

  • Pamela Krumvieda

Riot is great and it will be epic when you hollar “Quiet Riot!” LOL

  • I would have voted for Moses. His brother,Aaron, was the articulate one(pick of the litter) but God chose him to lead His people out of Egypt.

  • Tab

    I like Raider the best.

  • Lori

What rescue site did you get the dog from?

  • TBogg

Kenya, because he’s black and foreign

  • Judith Britto

If you plan on having your dog as a watch dog…why not give him a watch name….How about
Seiko or is the spelling Sieko….have to go look that one up? Or…if you plan on your
dog living the the garage…How about naming him Carr?

  • Llew

    How about…WOOKIE?

  • vera

Love this puppy! Considering his size and color, Snowflake could be apropriate name.

  • Clifford, everyone will get a kick out of that one.
Although I do love Chewbacca best still 😉

  • NMM

    How about, Gilbert

  • Barbara Landi

Raider is good, as is Clifford. Wookie is great because he’s going to be a big black wookie. Probably half of all Newfies are named Bear because that’s what they look like. I’ve been told that dogs respond best to names with ssssss sounds in them, like Spencer for instance.
    He is very sweet!

  • Liz

Those are all cute choices! I the name Samson! 🙂

    • Liz

Should say… I *love* the name Samson!

  • Shane

    Riot for sure.

  • Linda

That dog is as cute as can be! Out of the 3 names you listed, I would choose either Raider or Clifford.

  • Tami Goodman

Clifford is cool….I love his eyes and all the fluff! He needs a cuddly name! : D

  • Riot sounds like fun. Does it match his personality?

  • Hillary

    I would chose Raider.

  • vincent s

    how bout rambo!

  • Brittany

I like Riot. It’s a name you don’t hear too often!

  • Christy Ridenour

    How about Zamboni?

  • Cherie

I think you should combine Riot and Raider in some way. After all he’s going to need a middle name too!

  • blueniner

    How about Bo Diddley?

  • Dennis & Peggy

    Our suggestion is: Smokey

  • Joseph

Dang, he is big! I like the name, Raider!

  • M.J.

Sweet dog! How about the name Midnight?!!! Or Boo- like the song- Me And You And A Dog Named Boo!

  • Morgan Malpass

  • Kimberly

I have to go with Clifford. He’s just so precious, and the name suits him!

  • Molly

    Raider!! So cute!

  • Christy Ridenour

If not Zamboni, what about Colt?

  • otlset

The full name should be distinguished — Clifford Von Wagstail-Barksalot.

  • Chris

Our neighbor had a male who was named Angus. Now they have a new puppy named Ellie Mae. Not in love with the Ellie Mae name, but she is a sweet pup. My Mini Goldendoodles are named Notre Dame (we call him iNDy), and Mini Cooper (we call him Coop). Whatever you name him, he is the sweetest!! I prefer Raider, cause he’s likely to raid the entire house!

  • bellagrazi

Oh, it’s for Gino! Guess Pistol doesn’t make sense now. Haha It wasn’t my idea, but it was my favorite. Out of these 3, I’d say my favorite is Riot. Raider is a close second. Not really big on Clifford. This has been a lot of fun, Bristol. Thanks for including us. Maybe we can help name your next child. Haha Another adorable picture with the pup. Hope you post updates as he grows. He’s going to be huge!

  • Ew, not Raider. Makes me think of the football team, not a cute dog.

I saw another comment that mentioned Moose…that would be perfect for a Newfie! If its out of the 3 you listed, then I would pick Riot first and Clifford second.

  • Claire

you made a great choice by getting a Newfoundland. We love our Cleveland. Sometimes we wish we’d named him Ferdinand because he stops to smell the flowers. See his photos here, so cute!

  • Give him a name that he will be proud to have, like Rin Tin Tin or Lazzie. That dog is so beautiful and strong looking, the other names I posted are now for ever gone, I would just call your dog Zorro.

  • Joanna Weidner

I think I’d go with Mr. Riot. I tried to give my dog a real name but ‘Boy’ just came naturally. 🙂

  • Elle

Clifford!! So cute. Although I like Rupert too…

  • Nana2SB

Since you’re in Alaska, I like Yukon. Of course Moose and Raider are good names for the big boy too. 🙂

  • Suzanne

Definately Clifford – he just looks the part. I like the sound of “Here comes Bristol and Clifford”.

  • jan

    MONTENEGRO “MONTE” for short.

  • Mymati

IMHO a big dog like that needs a big powerful name. Newfoundlands a also easy going friendly dogs. So I suggest AMICUS which is latin for friend. A perfect name for a dog that will be Tripp’s best friend for many years to come.

  • Sarah Johnson

I like Rowdy! He is a precious dog. Hope to see more pictures!

  • Sharon

    Bein’ as he’s a Newfie and all…Triton!

  • Shawn

    OMG I’ve got a hot crush on u Bristol…lol 😉

  • Rosali Elzig

Hello Bristol! I’m friend of your grandma. Ask her about me and she will tell you. Anyway! Talking to my daughter about your puppy, she is very good with animals and naming them. She said that is very personal the name you pick for you dog,and have to be really some name that match the personality and the breed. Because it is black, she would name it Kurasu, wish it would say {CROSS } which means Black guardian in Japonese. But she said that the name Riot would be a good one for it too. So, good luck and have fun with your puppy.

  • BellaItalia

i think riot and raider are hard to say. i vote for rowdy.

  • Kathypf

    I like Lambchop

  • karenbills

    I like Rowdy and Raider.

  • Raider!

  • Ken Crawford

By all means, Clifford ! I can see in his face that he is an intelligent and thoughtful life-partner for anyone who will give him the attention he needs and the chance to prove his smarts. I named my rescue pup Sherlock because he investigated every square inch of my place and did not let furniture in his way deter him one bit ! He also has some british ways, like he always passes you on the right when you meet him in the hall. He barks to go outside and then insists that you go first ! He sleeps right beside me at night and holds the covers down well in the winter. He is a mix of Great Pyrenees, Collie, and German Shepard. weighs 120 pounds and loves to go to Sonic Burger for Ice Cream cones and a Route 44 Ice water. When I got him, they were calling him “Buster”, That just did not capture his total personality like “Sherlock” does. Love and Prayers always, Ken

  • I vote for clifford

  • Debra Knapp

I vote for Raider. What a cute puppy! Thank you for bringing the voice of reason to the young people of America.

    • hiway280z

      I also liked Raider.

  • Paulette

Hmmm….I think I like Rowdy! Looks like he will like to tussle, rock & roll with anyone playing with him! What a gorgeous, although giant, puppy! So cuddly!!!!! What a fun thing to do to involve your friends in picking his name! Have a great summer & hope to see you around Wasilla sometime! (Lived in Palmer for years, but visit friends a couple of times a summer now that I live ‘outside’.) I’m a grandmama now, so if you ever need a good Christian babysitter, give me a shout! 🙂 Praying for you & your family always!

  • Frederick Lang

  • Sandy Owen

I think Clifford would be perfect. To me it is a strong, magnificent, dignified name with a “mischievous” sound to it!

  • Janice Meek

i really love the name CLIFFORD….because it is unique, never hear that much anymore and it is downright cute.

  • brenda

I think clifford is too funny. The dog is so cute.

  • blackbird

Bristol he looks like a: Mr. Snuggles or BooBoo

  • David Dempsey

Raider is a good name. What about Harry? (ha) You might consider letting him name himself by something that he does that’s unusual – his personality, ect.

  • Dreika

  • AnyOldNameWillDo

    Hi Bristol 🙂
    Clifford Maximus
I grew up with Saint Bernards, enjoy 🙂

  • kate

Wow Ms Bristol. Great puppy and just look at the size of those paws. I think Clifford is a great name.

Congrats to Gov. Walker. A well deserved win.

  • Marsha

I have a 5 year old newfie and he is great fun, protector and wonderful with friends and small children. Wait until you see the guy in action…in the water, they are fascinating.

My suggestion for names would be:

  • Bonny

My daughter has a white Newfoundland that she rescued named Moose, I can tell you their heads are like basketballs so Dribble or Dunk might work. Have fun, enjoy and good luck with Him or Her.

  • Emmie Lou Tucker

My favorite name for a big black dog is Paladin. The original Paladins were the Black Knights of Charlemagne- Have Gun Will Travel with Richard Boone worked off that, remember the chess knight in the corner of the business card. A perfect name for a dog who will look after you and have all the knightly virtues hopefully none of the vices.

  • charli chad

    Clifford is PERFECT!

  • jojo

  • John

i would suggest the name “Russia” since he can see Russia from your state…

  • Bo

Which one — the one on the left or on the right in the picture?
By the way, when are you going to do a post about Father’s Day? It’s a perfect opportunity for you to talk about the role of your sex partner in the life of your child.

  • I’m all for naming him Moose. It looks like he’s gonna BE one…

  • Megan
