Watch This Daddy Sing to His Infant Son after Wife Dies 2014-11-19T13:35:23-05:00

Chris PiccoGet out your tissues. This video is going to break your heart.

Chris and Ashley Picco meet in NYC as volunteers right after 9-11. They loved to talk about how that tragic event had led to such a good thing in their relationship. After being married for 7 years, Chris and Ashley were expecting their first child – filled with anticipation and joy.

Who could have known how much things would change in just 1 week.

With no warning, Ashley passed away in her sleep, and their baby boy had to be delivered at 24 weeks by an emergency C-section. Suddenly husband and father Chris’ life had turned all upside-down.

Chris thanked friends who were supporting him:

It’s impossible to sum up what has happened in the last couple of days. My wife, best friend and mother of my child passed away. I have a lifetime to grieve this unspeakable loss, but I know that right now she would want me to focus completely on baby Lennon James Picco, who survived by an emergency C-section.

Ashley had said that their baby would move inside her when music was playing, so Chris got permission to bring his guitar into NICU and play to his tiny son. A friend posted this video of Chris singing “Blackbird” to the son they named Lennon James Picco. It quickly went viral and got 14 million views.

Sorry, I have to wipe my eyes…

This wonderful daddy devoted himself to his son for the next four days and loved him as much as was humanly possible.

But the day after the “Blackbird” video, baby Lennon fell asleep in his daddy’s arms and didn’t wake up.

Somehow, Chris still had the strength to speak and sing at his wife and son’s combined funeral.

Just in case you’re not sobbing yet… He sings “This Is My Father’s World” at 8:05.

All he wants now is for as much good to come out of this as possible.

So many people out there who have reached out to me didn’t have the support, didn’t have the random viral video, didn’t have this opportunity, this momentum. So for whatever reason we have this, so what now? What good can we bring out of this to this broken world?

Their church set up a memorial fund to help Chris.

The best thing we can do for Chris now is to pray for him. A lot.
