Ut Unum Sint?

There are plenty of dividing lines among Christians. Overcoming them has led to some brutal unities. Beyond the confessional divides, where are the more fundamental divides between Christians? I do believe my friend Mark Robinson nailed it yesterday when he said the following:

Here's a pathbreaking book from an Evangelical author that covers one aspect of this divide.
Here’s a pathbreaking book from an Evangelical author that covers one aspect of this divide.

General observation that still holds true:

(1) Majority culture Christians/churches – quietists regarding society-wide ‘boardroom’ sins but activists regarding personal, ‘bedroom’ sins (i.e. sex, work ethic)

(2) Minority Christians/churches – activists regarding ‘boardroom’ or structural sins (i.e. culture of police, general racialized social disparities) and quietists regarding the ‘bedroom’ sins.

Know what this shows?

We desperately need one another within the one blood bought, multiethnic family of God.

I’m happy to add that Solidarity Hall is joining Patheos Catholic with their blog The Dorothy Option.

Look for them to start actively posting about the sorts of issues Mark mentions above soon.

In the meantime you might want to read Ron Sider’s Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger and Ephraim Radner’s A Brutal Unity. Both are sobering books.
