Joshua Charles, co-author of a book with Glenn Beck and now a law student at Pat Robertson’s Regent University, appears to have learned at the feet David Barton, the Jedi master of distorting the views of the founding fathers. In a Worldnetdaily column, he uses every dishonest trick in the book.

David Barton has added a new trick to his repertoire. In addition to lying about American history and the Constitution, he’s now telling lies about his own personal history. First he lied about being on the Oral Roberts basketball team when he went to school there. Now he’s apparently lying about having been a translator for the Russian gymnastics team. Warren Throckmorton has been tracking down the details. Here’s what Barton claimed on his radio show:

Fake historian and professional liar David Barton did an interview at a Cleveland Right to Life event and made the rather bizarre claim that no nation has ever survived more than 80 years once premarital sex and infidelity have become accepted.

I knew Joshua Charles was a Worldnetdaily columnist, but I didn’t know he was the co-author of a book with Glenn Beck until Right Wing Watch pointed that out. In a new WND column, Charles absolutely loses his shit over the idea of gay people being parents, calling it “disgusting” and “evil.”

Glenn Beck and David Barton have long been BFFs and Beck routinely repeats Barton’s lies on his show. He never presents any evidence for them, of course, because there is no evidence. But you know what they say about the big lie — repeat it often enough and it becomes true, especially if your audience is ignorant and doesn’t care what is or isn’t true. Here’s the latest:

Sam Rohrer, the founder of the American Pastors Network that hosted a conference in Pennsylvania last week, recently replied to an inquiry by Warren Throckmorton by saying that he didn’t find any of the accusations against David Barton to be credible. Now we know why: They share a love of theocracy.

Lancaster Bible College hosted the U-Turn Conference last week, sponsored by the American Pastors Network (the ones who aren’t at all bothered by David Barton’s long track record of lying). It was kind of a wingnut B team except for Barton, but they offered up the same old crap:

One of the lies that David Barton tells in his appropriately titled book The Jefferson Lies is that Jefferson wanted to free his slaves but couldn’t because Virginia law forbid what was called manumission. It’s been debunked many times, but Warren Throckmorton catches him telling the same lie twice in recent weeks.

Warren Throckmorton, who teaches at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, notes that the Pennsylvania Pastors Network has invited David Barton to speak at a conference in Lancaster. He contacted Sam Rohrer, CEO of the pastors group, to ask why he would invite someone so astonishingly dishonest to speak. The answer is absurd:

If it seems like I do a post like this at least once a week, it’s because I do. More accurately, it’s because David Barton tells a lie at least once a week and Warren Throckmorton usually catches him at it. The latest is his dishonest attempt to defend his claim that the Bible says there will never be an AIDS vaccine. Here’s what Barton had to say:

Warren Throckmorton has found even more proof that David Barton flat out lied about his basketball career at Oral Roberts University. Not only does the university say he was never on the basketball team, the trainer for the team says his very specific description of the team’s workouts isn’t even in the ballpark of reality. To refresh your memory, this is what Barton said:

David Barton is always discovering these nuggets in the Bible and extrapolating them to apply them to modern situations, often to hilarious effect. But here’s a testable claim. He thinks the Bible says that we will never have an AIDS vaccine because AIDS is punishment on gay people.
