The Rev. Dr. Mark D. Roberts is a pastor, author, leader, speaker, blogger, and consultant for Christian organizations. Currently, Mark is the Executive Director of the Max De Pree Center for Leadership at Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, California. In this role, he provides visionary, strategic, and tactical leadership for the Center, which seeks to serve leaders so they might flourish in life and leadership. In addition to serving leaders directly, the De Pree Center helps churches so they might encourage, teach, mentor, form, and support marketplace leaders. Part of Mark’s work for the Center involves serving leaders and churches by writing Life for Leaders, a daily, digital devotional that is emailed to over 5300 subscribers each morning.

For sixteen years (1991-2007), Mark was the Senior Pastor of Irvine Presbyterian Church in Southern California. He loved being a pastor: teaching God’s Word, shaping a community to reflect the Gospel, helping individuals to be formed in Christ, and sharing all of life with his congregation. After his time in Irvine, Mark served in a pastoral/executive role in the H.E. Butt Family Foundation in the Texas Hill Country, filling a variety of positions (Senior Director of Laity Lodge, Executive Director of Digital Media, Theologian in Residence, chief writer of the Daily Reflections, etc.). Mark began his career at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood as Associate Pastor of Education.

Mark studied at Harvard University, receiving a B.A. in Philosophy magna cum laude, an M.A. in the Study of Religion, and a Ph.D. in New Testament and Christian Origins. He has taught classes in New Testament for Fuller Theological Seminary and San Francisco Theological Seminary.

Mark has written several books, including No Holds Barred: Wrestling with God in Prayer (WaterBrook, 2005), Dare to Be True (WaterBrook, 2003), Jesus Revealed (WaterBrook, 2002), After “I Believe” (Baker, 2002), and Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther (Word, 1993), Can We Trust the Gospels? Investigating the Reliability of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (Crossway, 2007), Discovering Advent: How to Experience the Power of Waiting on God at Christmastime (Patheos, 2011). Mark’s commentary on Ephesians published by Zondervan in the Story of God series is now available for purchase.

Mark serves on the editorial board of Worship Leader magazine, where he publishes articles and reviews, including his regular devotional column. Additionally, he has published dozens of articles in leading magazines and journals. He often speaks for churches and other Christian groups, and has been interviewed on over seventy-five radio programs nationwide.

Mark is married to Linda, who is a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Spiritual Director, and a retreat speaker. They have two children, Nathan and Kara.
