Top Ten Archeological Discoveries in 2011 . . . Plus a Concern About Texas December 31, 2011

I always enjoy reading the blog of Dr. Claude Mariottini, Professor of Old Testament at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. One of the things he does is to link to fascinating articles that I would surely miss without his guidance.

One such article appeared on Archaeology, the website of the Archaeological Institute of America. It featured the “Top 10 Discoveries of 2011.” I find it fascinating to read about key archeological finds throughout the world today.

Along with these discoveries, the website mentioned three archaeological “Sites Under Threat.” One of these, interestingly enough, is Texas (where I live). The extreme drought in Texas has caused many lakes and rivers to recede. This has revealed many archeological finds that were once under water. This could be good news. But the bad news is that amateurs are disturbing sites that should be preserved for archeological investigation.
