Axis deer are plentiful in the Hill Country of Texas. Some would say they are more than plentiful. Originally from central Asia (Nepal, Sri Lanka, etc.), the Axis deer or Chital was introduced to Texas for hunting. Now they can be found everywhere. They are easily identified by their spotted coats.

I spotted this Vine Sphinx moth on our porch in early summer. It was about four inches across, the size of a hummingbird. This moth lives mostly in South and Central America, but it is sometimes found in the southern United States, including my yard.
