Starving Your Children a Feature of Quiverfull?

Starving Your Children a Feature of Quiverfull? 2018-08-15T09:29:05-04:00

The heart of the home for many is the kitchen

Nancy Campbell of Above Rubies published an email in her Women’s Encouragement blog that reminds me of one of the more horrible features of Quiverfull. The same type of thinking, poverty and life that led the Pearls to feed their children animal feed – the mother not working while having too many children to feed, and praying for food.

This is a story we see repeated over and over again, which makes me wonder how many times these ‘miracles’ do not occur and a small child goes to bed hungry, or filled with animal feed. Clearly the gardener took pity on the writer, giving her many vegetables, and likely he was the source of the groceries, or told someone who could help. It’s not rocket science and very unlikely to be a miracle.

Please, if you are stuck in this lifestyle and you cannot afford to feed your children at least sent them to public school where they can get a reduced cost or free breakfast and lunch. Make finding more income, by working, or selling what you have, a priority. Go to the local food pantries, check into signing up for the USDA commodities program, or see if you qualify for SNAP.

Feeding your children should be one of your biggest priorities. Please don’t wait for “God” to do it for you.
