Steven Anderson Bashes Catholicism?

Screencap from the Faithful Word Baptist Church video of Steven Anderson dressed as a mock Catholic bishop about to use a toilet brush to sprinkle his followers with holy water to keep them safe from vampires and zombies.

Shared this a few days ago on Facebook but my blood is still boiling. Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist did something beyond what polite society demands yet again. I know, not surprising considering Anderson has called for the wholesale execution of LGBT people, praised the Pulse nightclub shooter, denigrated a fellow pastor for loving skinny jeans and polka dots, and loves to out other pastors for things they did as teens. This time Anderson didn’t just bash another Christian faith, he mocked it in one of the most disgraceful displays seen in ages.

It’s on a Facebook video that I cannot imbed here, but you can reach it via this link. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Here’s the entire sermon with Steven telling a number of lies, including that the Catholic Church invented the words β€˜Hocus Pocus’ It’s not clear that this is the origin, at least not as clear as Steven seems to think it is. Likely it is a jugglar’s bastardization of Latin, not something the priests came up with.

Is this even remotely right to deliberately mock other Quiverfull religions from the pulpit or is this another example of Anderson’s hate speech? The video popped up on a Facebook page named β€œThe Blood of the Patriots” that primarily features Anderson’s screeds he calls sermons. His wife Zsuzsanna loaded the videos into the page so it’s likely this is another page created by the Andersons to dissiminate their hate speech using the Bible as justification.

After spending some time this summer in the company of nuns and Catholics helping with the Nicaraguan crisis I can say that while I’m not in love with Catholism one thing that the church does do well is help the suffering. Does Anderson’s church do anything to eliminate poverty, help the poor, help those fleeing a repressive regime, or anything practical that helps others? No, they just go out β€˜soul-winning’ – haranging strangers on their own front steps to come to Hate Speech Jesus.

Can’t you just feel the love of Christ oozing off Anderson *insert eyeroll here* This is not how mature people handle disagreements over theology.
