Doug Wilson and Marxism?

Doug Wilson and Marxism? November 19, 2018

I don’t have high expectations when I see Doug Wilson of Blog and Mablog sound off on anything one might consider an intellectual matter. Like Marxism. Doug Wilson and Marxism, from his explanation on why he thinks Darwinism is foolishness invented by craven liberal heathens. Doug fancies himself quite the intellectual, thinking that sprinkling in fancy words is all it takes, instead of actual critical thinking and reasoning skills. His writings all seem to indicate he’s about as deep as that mud puddle outside my gate.

He’s like that banging gong the Bible talks about. He is really exposing the gaps in his own educational progress here more than anything else.Β  I don’t pretend to be an intellectual because clearly I am not. But in the reaches of Evangelical Quiverfull so many guys like Doug think that they are because the inferior echo chambers they all abide in tell them so. Out in the real world, in genuine systems of education they’d all be exposed as mediocre.

Here’s what Doug thinks Marxism is about:

Nice use of an image from Monty Python’s β€œMonty Python and the Holy Grail” Ten points for trying to seem hip and relevant while failing that. Pretty sure none of the Monty’s would approve of his thoughts on anything.

So what actually is Marxism? Well, it’s a political economic school of thought that intersects with other types of communism. Here’s what Wiki had to say:

Marxism is a method of socioeconomic analysis that views class relations and social conflict using a materialist interpretation of historical development and takes a dialectical view of social transformation. It originates from the works of 19th-century German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

Marxism uses a methodology, now known as historical materialism, to analyze and critique the development of capitalism and the role of class struggles in systemic economic change.

According to Marxist theory, class conflict arises in capitalist societies due to contradictions between the material interests of the oppressed proletariatβ€”a class of wage labourers employed to produce goods and servicesβ€”and the bourgeoisieβ€”the ruling class that owns the means of production and extract their wealth through appropriation of the surplus product (profit) produced by the proletariat.

This class struggle that is commonly expressed as the revolt of a society’s productive forces against its relations of production, results in a period of short-term crises as the bourgeoisie struggle to manage the intensifying alienation of labor experienced by the proletariat, albeit with varying degrees of class consciousness. This crisis culminates in a proletarian revolution and eventually leads to the establishment of socialismβ€”a socioeconomic system based on social ownership of the means of production, distribution based on one’s contribution and production organized directly for use. As the productive forces continued to advance, Marx hypothesized that socialism would ultimately transform into a communist society; a classless, stateless, humane society based on common ownership and the underlying principle: β€œFrom each according to his ability, to each according to his needsβ€œ.

What it does not mean is that the government will force you to sell something below costs all the time. Typical Doug oversimplification of a very complex thing. Marxism is more dedicated to assuring that the rich do not exploit the labor of the poor.

Which leads one to the rest of his piece on Darwinism, where he laughs at science and declares it foolishness based on Bible verses about fools. Those are all the same Bible verses one might use to say that Doug’s writings fall into the category of foolish.

Shhh, please no one tell Doug that there are those that posit that Christianity is a type of Marxism.
