Doug Wilson Hates Hipsters More Than Idolatry?

This eveningΒ  I started to take a look at Doug Wilson’s site Blog and Mablog, remembering his feverish gibberish in praise of the recently changed abortion laws in Alabama.

Just in case you haven’t heard Alabama has passed the most ridiculously restrictive anti abortion law this last week. It does not allow abortions even in cases of rape or incest. This new law is so extreme that even Pat Robertson, Mitt Romney and other prominent Republicans have said it goes too far. Think about that for a moment. Let it sink in. Pat Robertson, Mr. Pro-Life Christian, thinks it goes to far.

My favorite Trae Crowder, the Liberal Redneck had a good take on the situation.Β  NSFW for language:

Which leads us to Doug. Doug loves the new law, hailing it as a victory for his side.

Going into Doug’s site to quote his approval I promptly fell downΒ  the rabbit’s hole, never making it to his piece because of his piece on how Christians do not and cannot make β€œIdols” of their family. It is his typical word salad with twisted logic and statements that aren’t even remotely true.

Doug spends so much time trying so hard to work clever little snide remarks against hipsters into his piece that I would venture to guess that words are his sacred idols he worships more than Jesus. words, and his own thoughts.

Dig this:

Bee keeping? Craft beer and hand made furniture all sound pretty awesome. I could use a craft beer while reading his words right now. If this is his idea of an insult to liberals and non-Christians he’s beyond out of touch. MaybeΒ  he’s too busy grooming his beard.

Back to idolatry. It seems to me that one of the biggest idols that many Quiverfull men make is their families, or rather the idea of family. A perfect family that bears very little resemblance to either his real family, or anyone else.

The family facade is a very powerful image, idol and impossible goal for many. To be upheld as perfection is so harmful to everyone involved

Doug and others try to claim that they are merely protecting real families from the onslaught of gays, divorced mothers, atheists and whatever else kind of boogieman they can conjure up. But they aren’t really, they are protecting an empty facade that no one measures up to since it’s not real.
