Open Thread – Corona Virus and Vile People

Open Thread – Corona Virus and Vile People March 17, 2020

Things are changing rapidly here in Costa Rica and all over the world. We have gone on lock down, banks and grocery stores closed at noon in this area, I have heard things will be only open a few hours a day. The borders will be closed by tomorrow at noon. We underwent medical screenings at both the Nicaragua border and the Costa Rica border last night to make sure we don’t actively have the disease. Scary times.

The worst part is the total and complete misinformation being shared online in and real life. The bank forced me to remove my Vog mask, which I have worn in there before, and was wearing today because I am wheezing from the  asthma. Why? The government orders only medical professionals are supposed to have the masks, never mind I have had my pile for many moons. Heard from a number of people in the last few days that high climate temps kill of the virus, completely ignoring the fact that the virus is spreading just as rapidly in places like Australia and Central America where the temps are well above 90 degrees right now.

I am seeing various states in the U.S. taking similar actions in the last day, and heard that the UK is finally taking some actions to socially distance people. Sensible steps.

Trump is now saying he knew all along it would be a dangerous pandemic affecting millions.

But at the exact same time we have seen a host of Evangelicals doing and saying some of the most awful and disgusting things. Alex Jones of Infowars is trying to sell a toothpaste he claims kills COVID 19 and other things. Jim Bakker has switched from pushing his Silver Solution for Corona and is now trying to sell hemp oil for it instead. I wonder if anyone has bothered to explain that ‘hemp’ and ‘marijuana’ are roughly the same thing.

Jerry Falwell Jr is refusing to cancel conferences or cancel classes at Liberty University and making some rather easily debunked statements about the virus. Megachurch pastor Guillermo Maldonado of King Jesus International Ministry is claiming it’s a ‘Demonic Spirit.’ and the list of crazy goes on.

Lori Alexander of The Transformed Wife is making all sorts of claims that make her sound like a demented heartless sociopath. Not linking to any of them because I don’t wish to feed her burgeoning ego. She’s rejoining over Beth Moore going home, and saying nasty things about everyone else. Let’s not give her the attention by linking to her. She is gleefully using the pandemic to grovel for hit numbers and strokes from men. Hit whore.

Discuss.
