Devon Still’s Inspiring ESPYs Acceptance Speech about His Daughter’s Battle with Cancer

Devon Still’s Inspiring ESPYs Acceptance Speech about His Daughter’s Battle with Cancer July 17, 2015

Some moments are life-clarifying. Receiving a cancer diagnosis has to be one of those times when every other problem in life just fades from your mind. Especially if the diagnosis comes for your little daughter.

That’s what happened to Devon Still, defensive tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals, last June. He described it as a “nightmare.”

Devon Still and his daughter Leah won the Jimmy V Perseverance Award at the ESPYs. He gave an honest and inspiring speech honoring his daughter and all the many support systems that helped their family through their most difficult time.

He repeatedly expressed his thanks to God and described how he wrestled through all the emotions, worries, fear, and anger through prayer. He thanked his family members and the Cincinnati Bengals management for their understanding and support when he needed to be there for his daughter.

And finally, he thanked his daughter Leah, for “molding me into the man I am today.”

I always used to dream about how I was going to be able to show you so much about life, but in the five years I’ve been with you, you’ve taught me more about life than I could ever do.

Watch the audience reactions as he tells the whole story, and just see if you don’t suddenly find your eyes leaking a little water too:
