Violence and the Decline of Faith

What kind of news have we witnessed over the last few months? A face-eating cannibal in Florida, a sadistic homosexual cannibal in Montreal who videos a murder, dismemberment and necrophilia then mails body parts to unsuspecting victims. Or shall we discuss the fact that the video is online for millions to view, and a public high school teacher shows the video to a tenth grade class–and that the kids voted by an overwhelming majority to view the disgusting film? Maybe we should highlight the global rise of gender selective abortion which murders unborn little girls, or for that matter new born little girls. What about the resurgence of child sacrifice and cannibalism in Africa or the deliberate sex trafficking of young girls in Britain?

How do we treat animals? News today of “Donkey Roping” in Texas where the prod a donkey until he runs in terror, then chase him on horses, rope him down, tie his front legs to one horse and back legs to another then ride in opposite directions. Dog fights and cock fights are resurgent–not to mention the horrors of some of our factory farming slaughterhouses.

In the face of such horrifying news you could respond with nonchalance…”Come now, society has always had its share of psychopaths. These are isolated, sick souls who need to be locked up forever.” Furthermore, the rest of us have always had a morbid interest in such things. The Jack the Rippers and Lizzie Bordens of this world will always sell newspapers, and we stop and stare just like everyone else. It is part of the human condition.

Yes, but. Are we not more calloused than we were before? Are we not more indifferent to these crimes? Are we not less shocked than ever before? I think this is so, and here’s why: Read more.

Evil prospers when good men do nothing

Noticeably, the works of Flannery O’Connor are quite violent, and I think she uses this violence as a point of satire, as it is abhorrent that we were so shocked at the violence of WW1 and WW2, yet we have let it fill our lives.

  • Gregg the Obscure

Churchmen of the past two centuries warned of the horrible effects of the coarsening of culture. Their warnings weren’t heeded, but they were accurate. After people have been evicted from their natural habitat – the family – then are surrounded by new extremes in hedonism, daily life for many has become a Bacchanalia in different costumes.

    Catholic faith lost.
    Reasoned informed by Faith lost.
Nothing but wilderness in the eyes.
    Be steadfast and pray.

VERY POWERFUL! WHAT YOU HAVE POSTED TODAY IS ALL TOO TRUE. AND IT SOMETIMES SEEMS THAT ST. AUGUSTINE’S POSTULATION OF “THE WORLD, THE FLESH AND THE DEVIL” HAS NOW BECOME FUSED INTO ONE AWFUL REALITY: WORLD, FLESH AND DEVIL NOW ONE, RULED BY LUCIFER. TOO EXREME? TOO MUCH OVER THE TOP? I ONLY WISH IT WERE! JUST MEDITATE ON THIS: IN AMERICA & MOST PARTS OF THE WORLD TODAY, A WOMAN FOR ANY REASON OR NO REASON AT ALL CAN “SNUFF” HER UNBORN CHILD, UP TO AND INCLUDING THE NINTH MONTH OF HER CARRY OF HER UNBORN CHILD. THE FIGURES AVAILABLE FOR THIS HORRIFIC SITUATION ARE NOT ALWAYS THE MOST ACCURATE BECAUSE, AFTER ALL, IT IS A RIGHT, AND IT WAS, FOR INSTANCE, ALWAYS “THERE” IN THE “PENUMBRAS” OF THE U.S. CONSTITUTION. SO WHY QUIBBLE ABOUT IT? THE FIGURE MOST OFTEN QUOTED FOR THE ONGOING ABORTION HOLOCAUST IS SOMEWHERE AROUNFD 50 MILLION; I THINK, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE CALIFORNIA LEGALIZATION OF THE HUMAN SLAUGHTER IN 1967, AND THEN THE NEW YORK LEGALIZATION AROUND THE SAME TIME, THE TRUE FIGURES FOR THIS NIGHTMARE OF KILLING WOULD BE AROUND 70-100 MILLION OF THESE “LITTLE MURDERS OF BIG BROTHER.” STILL TO EXTREME FOR YOU TO THINK THAT “THE WORLD, FLESH AND DEVIL” CONCEPT IS JUST TOO “NEGATIVE”? i PRAY YOU’RE ALL RIGHT. GOD BLESS ALL, MARKRITE

To echo markrite (though without shouting), these are manifestations of a demonic attack not only on humanity, but on the very possibility of being human. The Enemy’s primeval hatred for man grew only worse after the Incarnation, so that now his aim is to corrupt it in every way, tempting us to abasement and self-destruction. The destruction of the family, sexual chaos, substance abuse, and cultic violence are all symptoms of this — as are the exaltation of sentiment at the expense of reason, the demolition of attention spans, and unrelenting and pervasive dread, incomprehension, and rage in the face of innocence and beauty. The very meaning of humanity is being defined down before our eyes, in a spiritual attack of the first order signifying grave times ahead.

Thank you for this very profound article! I remember reading somewhere, a long time ago, that God abandons people to a rebrobate mindset when they have abandoned Him completely, and remain unrepentant in their sins. I think what you are describing is the natural consequences flowing from the Protestant revole–that we decide who God is, what His laws are, what constitutes true worship, etc., etc. The whole sorry scenario is being allowed by play out, by Almighty God, to its natural outcome.
However, God never abandons anyone, and those of us who are believing Christians are called to witness to our faith, and to continue to do so, in the face of all hell if necessary.
This is as it has been throughout all of history, I believe.

“Do what you will” (“Do What Thou Wilt”) is the “creed” or basic rule of satanism according to Aleister Crowley. Turning away from God and His laws, one will end in the negation of God, and so ultimately at the side of His enemy.
