Weinstein vs Wahlberg

CRUX reports here that movie star Mark Wahlberg has repented for his role as a porn star in the film Boogie Nights.

For those who are unfamiliar with the film, it chronicles the adventures of a young man who gets work in the porn industry in the 1970s.

It was a breakthrough part for Wahlberg, but he’s now gone public with his regrets about the movie.

Forget about the motion picture and look at the bigger picture.

Compare Wahlberg’s response to sin and Harvey Weinstein’s. Mark Wahlberg not only starred in a movie about a porn star which must have featured a good bit of sex and violence, but the movie did well and he became a star. In other words, he got rich and famous because of a sexy movie.

So did Harvey Weinstein. Not only his moves, but his movies were full of sex and violence. He also got rich and famous by pandering to our lust for sex and violence.

But Wahlberg has re-ignited his Catholic faith and realizes that his sin is an offense not only against God but against others. He’s actively involved supporting with his time and talent, initiatives to help disadvantaged young people–like the high school drop out he played in Boogie Nights. What is Harvey Weinstein doing? As far as I can make out Weinstein is whining. He was begging for his job, making pathetic excuses and then went to a “clinic” for a week.

The response of the two men shows true repentance and regret at getting caught.

True repentance is a turning in a new direction. It is conversion of life. It is a life change. It is a new way of seeing and a new way of being.

Wahlberg should be commended for showing the world the true way to be sorry for bad decisions and actions in the past.

Harvey Weinstein? He’s responded like an emotionally immature middle school kid who got caught.
