Delays, detours, disappointments, despair, and divine guidance. Today’s article is brought to you by the letter D! May 14, 2022

Recent events in my own life have shown me once again that God’s ways are not our ways. I have been disappointed at delays, detours from my carefully thought up plans, and wondered what was going on.  I even felt despair and desolation at points.

But at the right time God intervened and it suddenly became clear that the delays and detours had been part of his divine guidance all along.  And the pathways that I had been so sure God was leading me down turned out not to be dead ends, or indeed not to have been a mistake, but a necessary tool to get me to exactly where God wanted me to be at the moment he did.  One day no doubt I will share all the details of this.  But right now I am simply delighted to report that the very detours I complained about have got me to the place where I was able to recognise God’s remarkable divine intervention and provision.

Thank you Jesus.

Also do know that despite my delight at God’s goodness to me, this is despite many ongoing difficulties that are not going to just disappear.  I am seeing with my own eyes how God can deliver huge blessing for us without necessarily deleting our challenges and depressing circumstances.  Opening our eyes to see the blessings of God despite ongoing suffering is truly a key to walking in hope and not despair and desolation.
