Watch: Joaquin Phoenix’s Jesus says women should obey God rather than men in a clip from Mary Magdalene

There’s a famous bit in the book of Acts where Peter says, “We must obey God rather than men.” A new clip from Mary Magdalene — starring Rooney Mara as the title character and Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus — puts a new spin on that saying (intentionally or otherwise), as Jesus teaches a group of women that they must be prepared to defy their fathers and husbands if and when those men tell them to disobey God.
