Ending Poverty in America

Writing at The Week, Jeff Spross illustrates how the economy works differently for the poor than it does for those with means, and he touches on a few policies that would go along way to ending poverty in America. These include banking services at U.S. post offices, a universal basic income with extra allotments for  families with children, and a job guarantee.

Works for me. I’m much more partial to direct wealth redistribution than means-tested programs that require government officials to make decisions for individuals and families that they could better make for themselves, knowing their needs better than anyone else. If subsidiarity is important to you, you can’t do much better than a universal basic income.
