This popped up on Tim BaylyβsΒ Warhorn Media blog βOut of Our Mindsβ Now, it is not written by Bayly, even if Bayly seems to be the king of toxic frail manhood. Everything, literally everything is a threat to the type of masculinity these guys promote. I get the feeling that none of them really know what makes up genuine manhood.
This piece is written by Koren Sierkegaard and Koren is upset that women are leading worship, leading women in worship, praying, collecting tithes and offerings, helping with communion and so on, ad infinitum.
ETA: It is pretty clear now that this is likely Tim Bayly hiding under the not so clever made up name of Koren Sierkegaard. Heβs transposed the names of philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. Not very smart, is he?
Whoa, wait, what? How did we get from pushy female prayers to βOur Bodies, Ourselvesβ? That is one enormous Olympic-sized ridiculous leap. Thereβs nothing inherently wrong with either women offering prayers or information on how womenβs bodies work and their sexuality. I see nothing wrong with either. Only someone who is threatened by education could possibly find reading about their bodies wrong.
While quoting this I skipped a huge pile of very convoluted thinking about how only manly men should be in leadership positions in the church. Why men? This never explained beyond βbiblical gender rolesβ Always been that way so the author thinks it should always be that way. He does not understand that βThatβs the way weβve always done it!β is a death knell in the church, the last refuge of those on top.
I donβt know what type of proof the author thinks makes up βfeminineβ or βfemaleβ theology, or tones of voice or anything else. Sounds to me like the pastors heβs mocking are sensitive to the needs of the wide variety of people in their congregation. Most churches have a much higher number of female members, so whatβs wrong with appealing to the ladies as well as the men? Nothing, unless you are unsure of your own masculinity.
But hereβs the thing that these guys whining that women are taking over the churches. Where are the men? Why arenβt they stepping up to lead worship, collect tithes, pray, or do any other of those servant leadership things that make the church run.
Women do these things for two reasons.
- Women want to serve, live out their faith and contribute to the overall health of their faith communities.
- Men have abandoned those roles, content to passively sit in the pews without helping.
If women did not step up the entire church would simply crash and burn, grinding to a halt. With some of these extremely toxic churches that might not be such a bad thing.
