Breaking Duggar – Jill Duggar Dillard Enrolls Son in Public School

Breaking Duggar – Jill Duggar Dillard Enrolls Son in Public School February 22, 2020

I have to say I am surprised, and happy when this news was announced. Jill Duggar Dillard, announced that she has enrolled her eldest son, Israel Dillard in their local public school. Or as denizens of fundytown call it “That government concentration camp that teaches abortion, godlessness and gayness…”

Jill herself was raised in the world of homeschooling only. Her parents used those not very accurate worksheets by one Bill Gothard of Institute of Basic Life Principles that offers non-science answers to science questions and makes all types of nasty moral judgements based on things we cannot control. It was very far from a complete well-rounded basic education.

“to do a Christian-based curriculum – one in which there’s a lot of character emphasis, character building like responsibility, honest, self-control.”

Keep in mind these are the same people who covered for many years for a son who struggled with sexual peccadilloes, with pornography, lying about pornography, molesting little girls, visiting strip clubs, sleeping with prostitutes and so on. Yes, that some “character building” going on in that household most obviously.

Another site claims this is the reason:

” They adhere to a strict moral code, no exceptions, and didn’t want their children exposed to other ideologies in public school.”

Considering this fall that Homeland Security raided and closed Josh’s business I would love to know how the Duggars possibly think they are imbuing that “strict moral code”

For Jill to decide that she should allow others to educate her children, public experts, people with four plus years of post high school education and a lot of continuing education after her upbringing is pretty miraculous. She understands that the primary job of parenting is educating your children. Not everyone is prepared or can  homeschool their children. Some are even wise enough to realize it’s not for them.

Just another sign proving that the Dillard family is moving away from the rules of the Duggar family.

“Homeschooling conservatives will have more children and will homeschool their children so that one day we will retake this nation”

How many times has a fundamentalist said that? Look how well that’s working.

  • Saraquill

I’m curious if she’ll say her husband ordered it, getting her off the hook in some QF circles. I also hope he gets a decent education, and not “the Spanish Inquisition never existed” kind of schooling. (My “elite” public school had this in the curriculum.)

  • Oh, good, the kid has a chance at normalcy.

  • AFo

I’m happy they’ve made this choice, but I seriously have to wonder if it’s going to last, or if they’re just going to yank him out if he’s taught anything they disagree with.

  • Polytropos

Yes, that some “character building” going on in that household most obviously.

Well, IBLP didn’t specify what kind of character their methods would build. I’m glad to see Jill making this choice. Maybe over time she can break the cycle. At least in public school her kids will get real education and normal social interaction.

  • Delta

IBLP’s definition of “character” is someone who obeys and enforces the Institute’s hierarchy — men above women, adults above children, and Bill Gothard above all.

I hope that Jill Dillard recognizes that her home-school education, as well as that of her brothers and sisters, was lacking in a lot of areas and wrong in others, and wants a better education for her son. I hope that he gets to graduate from a public high school, and go on to a non-Fundy college–but this is a good start.

And retake the world too. The QF gazillions of them will be warriors for jesus, victorious in the coming battle against the forces of 2evil (2muslims2 naturally) who would otherwise swamp the world!

Jill is not the Duggar I’d expect to be the first to break out. But, limiting family size and public schooling is a basic requirement to build skills to leave. Derrick strikes me as someone who dives into things enthusiastically then gets bored and moves on, which might well be a description of his adherence to Duggar levels of fundiness. So, my bet is he may not even notice when Jill does something daring, like wear jeans.

Besides, I’m sure Jill has noticed that the expectations on women are onerous — constant pregnancy, closer child spacing and numbers than is healthy, caring for more small ones than is feasible while homeschooling kids at all different levels. My bet is many of the people who lived that life saw how much reality deviated from fiction.

I hope Jill herself one day starts going to some classes and gets to learn about the things that interest her. Adult education is just as important.

  • thatotherjean

That, too. I hope that sending her son to public school is a step for both of them in finding out just how big, diverse, and interesting the world really is.

  • smrnda

Their multigenerational plan kind of fizzles out after a generation of so.

  • Grappa Anilla

Fundamentalists are criminals and apostates. They will burn in hell.

  • Pennybird

Strict moral code for thee, but not for me, as they say in those circles.

  • Pennybird

There’s only so much watching your mother tear her hair out before you say to yourself that you’ll never make that mistake.

  • Mermaid Warrior

It’s pretty hard to take over a society when you shelter yourself from that society.

  • Mermaid Warrior

Yeah, it’s one thing to choose that kind of lifestyle for yourself but it’s another to not have a choice. It’s certainly not for everyone and given other options, most chicks ain’t gonna go for it.

  • SAO

Besides, she had issues with her pregnancies, right? That means the chances further pregnancies would be risky for her, the baby or both are probably higher than a sensible person would like. Dying or having a severely handicapped child is pretty off-putting. It’s worth noting that Joise illustrates both risks. She was born super-prematurely to save Michelle’s life and she may have developmental delays and has had seizures. So, I’m sure it’s very real to Jill.

Therefore, Jill is never going to win the biggest family contest. If she claims medical reasons to limit her family, there will always be people in the toxic CPM telling her to trust God, not her doctors. So, she might as well break a few more rules.
