The Amazon rainforest is on fire: In an environmental crisis of global proportions, Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro is overseeing the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the genocide of indigenous peoples.

CNN reports:

The Amazon is burning — and humans are likely to blame.

Environmental organizations and researchers say the wildfires blazing in the Brazilian rainforest were set by cattle ranchers and loggers who want to clear and utilize the land, emboldened by the country’s pro-business president.

NBC reports:

The Amazon rainforests are on fire. Brazil’s Trump-like president, Jair Bolsonaro, is to blame.

The new Brazilian leader called himself “Captain Chainsaw” and mocked environmentalists who feared his pro-clearance policies could decimate the Amazon.

In short, Brazil’s Christian Fascist President Jair Bolsonaro is overseeing a campaign of calculated genocide and environmental destruction.

Indeed, Bolsonaro is a dangerous Christian fascist who has promised to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy.

Vox reports Bolsonaro summed up his successful far-right presidential campaign with the slogan:

Brazil before everything, and God above all.

More important, in a campaign speech delivered last year, Bolsonaro signaled his intention to promote Christian theocracy for Brazil, declaring:

God above everything. There is no such thing as this secular state. The state is Christian and the minority will have to change, if they can. The minorities will have to adapt to the position of the majority.

Indeed, a big part of Bolsonaro’s dream of a Christian theocracy entails the eradication of non-Christians, in particular, the indigenous peoples of Brazil currently making the Amazon rainforest their home.

Bolsonaro was inaugurated on New Year’s day 2019, and immediately began to set into motion his deplorable plans to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy. In his acceptance speech, Bolsonaro promised to govern according to the Bible…

And at the top of his list was the extermination of uncontacted tribes, and the persecution of  indigenous groups.

The Guardian notes that Bolsonaro “has expressed open disdain for the indigenous peoples of Brazil, and it is no exaggeration to say that some of the world’s most unique and diverse tribes are facing annihilation.”

In addition, The Guardian explains that  Bolsonaro himself has declared:

It’s a shame that the Brazilian cavalry wasn’t as efficient as the Americans, who exterminated the Indians.

Sarah Shenker, a senior researcher at Survival International, echoes the sentiment of many observers by noting:

The theft of indigenous people’s lands could mean genocide and the complete wipeout of tribes.

And while the theft of  indigenous people’s lands could mean genocide, it also means profits. Think Progress notes:

His (Bolsonaro’s) far-right administration has empowered ranchers, loggers and farmers to clear land for their own benefit, destroying huge swathes of the rainforest in the process.

Bolsonaro is currently denying that he is responsible for the crisis in the rainforest. Instead, he blames NGOs for the fires consuming the Amazon.

Commenting on the current crisis Bolsonaro said:

On the question of burning in the Amazon, which in my opinion may have been initiated by NGOs because they lost money, what is the intention? To bring problems to Brazil

Bolsonaro is being dishonest, and engaging in wild conspiracy theories. NGOs are not burning down the rainforest. Full stop.

More reactrions on the story via Twitter:

Bottom line: Bolsonaro is a Christian fascist with no respect for people or the environment. He is motivated by power, greed, bigotry, and religious superstition, and he is currently overseeing the destruction of the Amazon rainforest and the genocide of indigenous peoples.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” – Genesis 1:26

Two Christian Fascists meet at the White House: President Donald Trump praised Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro after Bolsonaro attacked LGBT people and pledged to fight for “traditional family lifestyles.”

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro met with Donald Trump at the White House Tuesday, and the two men celebrated their similarities.

In a joint press conference aired live from the Rose Garden President Bolsonaro announced that he stands “side by side” with Trump in the fight  fight against same-sex marriage, transgender people, and fake news.

At the press event President Bolsonaro told reporters:

In conclusion, may I say that Brazil and the United States stand side by side in their efforts to ensure liberties, and respect to traditional family lifestyles, respect to God our creator, against the gender ideology or politically correct attitudes, and against fake news.

After Bolsonaro’s open attack on LGBT people, Trump praised the Brazilian president. In particular, Trump praised Bolsonaro for using the term “fake news”. Trump said:

I’m very proud to hear the president use the term ‘fake news.’

Bolsonaro, Brazil’s new president, is a dangerous Christian fascist who promises to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy.

Vox reports Bolsonaro summed up his far-right presidential campaign with the slogan:

Brazil before everything, and God above all.

More important, in a campaign speech delivered last year, Bolsonaro signaled his intention to promote Christian theocracy for Brazil, declaring:

God above everything. There is no such thing as this secular state. The state is Christian and the minority will have to change, if they can. The minorities will have to adapt to the position of the majority.

After his electoral victory, Reuters reported:

In his acceptance speech, Bolsonaro promised to govern according to the Bible…

The Christian “family values” Bolsonaro hopes to defend as Brazil’s president include homophobia and misogyny. For example, on gays he said:

If your son begins to act like this, sort of gay, he deserves a smack and he’ll change his behavior.

I’m not going to combat or discriminate, but if I see two men kissing on the street, I’m going to hit them.

I would be unable to love a gay son. I won’t be a hypocrite here: I would prefer that my son die in an accident rather than appear with a [gay] moustache. For me, he would be dead.

In addition to endorsing homophobia and misogyny in the name of Christianity, Bolsonaro has also endorsed racism and the torture and murder of political opponents. And the Christians love him for it.

Bottom line: President Donald Trump welcomed Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro to the White House where Bolsonaro attacked LGBT people and pledged to fight with Trump for “traditional family lifestyles.”

Genocide For Jesus: Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s new president, is a dangerous Christian fascist who is setting the stage for the genocide of the indigenous peoples of Brazil and other non-Christians.

Bolsonaro was inaugurated on New Year’s day, and immediately began to set into motion his deplorable plans to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy.

At the top of his list is the extermination of uncontacted tribes, and the persecution of  “indigenous groups, descendants of slaves and the LGBT community.”

The Independent reports:

In his first few hours in office he targeted Brazil’s indigenous groups, descendants of slaves and the LGBT community with executive orders.

Associated Press reports:

Newly installed President Jair Bolsonaro targeted Brazil’s indigenous groups, descendants of slaves and the LGBT community with executive orders in the first hours of his administration, moving quickly after a campaign in which the far-right leader said he would radically overhaul many aspects of life in Latin America’s largest nation.

In addition to setting the stage for the genocide of Brazil’s indigenous peoples, Bolsonaro has also begun to dismantle human rights protections for LGBT people in Brazil. Immediately after taking office Bolsonaro began the process of writing LGBT people “out of existence.”

The Daily Beast reports:

On the first day of his presidency Bolsonaro removed LGBT concerns from the remit of the country’s new human rights ministry. The newly named Ministry of Women, Family, and Human Rights made no explicit reference to LGBT rights in its priorities and internal structures…

Commenting on the latest developments, Leandro Ramos, director of programs at international advocacy organization All Out, opined:

Bolsonaro has made attacking LGBT rights and people a very central element of his campaign and political career. It is unclear how far he is willing to go now that he has been elected president.

What we do know is that before and after the elections LGBT are being attacked and assaulted with what could be called a political motivation. While they have been attacked, their attackers have chanted Bolsonaro’s name…

Bolsonaro has a well deserved reputation for making  racist, misogynist, and homophobic statements while maintaining close ties with and the support of powerful religious conservatives.

After his victory, Bolsonaro told his jubilant supporters that he was “going to change the destiny of Brazil,” declaring:

We cannot continue flirting with socialism, communism, populism and leftist extremism … We are going to change the destiny of Brazil.

Reuters reports:

In his acceptance speech, Bolsonaro promised to govern according to the Bible…

The Christian “family values” Bolsonaro hopes to defend as Brazil’s new president include homophobia and misogyny. For example, on gays he said:

Concerning women he said:

I have five children. Four were boys, on the fifth I got weak and had a daughter.

I never beat my ex-wife. But I thought of shooting her various times.

I would never rape you (female politician) because you don’t deserve it.

In addition to endorsing homophobia and misogyny, Bolsonaro has also endorsed racism and the torture and murder of political opponents. And the Christians love him for it.

Bottom line: Brazil’s new president, Jair Bolsonaro, is a dangerous Christian fascist who promises to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy, and is now setting the stage for genocide.

Thrilling evangelicals who pray for Armageddon, Brazil’s president-elect Jair Bolsonaro promises to move the country’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Haaretz reports:

Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro said late on Thursday that he intends to move the Brazilian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Bolsonaro made the announcement via Twitter:

As previously stated during our campaign, we intend to transfer the Brazilian Embassy from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem. Israel is a sovereign state and we shall duly respect that.

By moving the Brazilian embassy to Jerusalem Bolsonaro is following in the footsteps of the Trump administration’s decision made last year to move the U.S. embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Evangelicals and other conservative Christians cheer such decisions because they believe that moving embassies in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem will usher in Armageddon, and set the stage for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ and End Times.

Indeed, many Christians believe that moving embassies to Jerusalem, and thus recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, is a necessary condition for the return of Christ. Last year, at a Trump rally in Pensacola, Florida, conservative Christians cheered after Florida state Senator Doug Broxson suggested that Trump’s controversial decision to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem would usher in Armageddon.

At the time the Republican lawmaker praised Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a win for people of faith, declaring:

Now, I don’t know about you, but when I heard about Jerusalem — where the King of Kings [applause] where our soon coming King is coming back to Jerusalem, it is because President Trump declared Jerusalem to be capital of Israel.

Bottom line: Brazil’s president-elect Jair Bolsonaro is promising to move the country’s embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which thrills many conservative Christians because they believe that moving the embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem helps to set the stage for Armageddon, the end of the world, and the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s new president, is a dangerous Christian fascist who promises to remake Brazil into a Christian theocracy.

Promising to restore law and order and prioritize family values, Christian fascist Jair Bolsonaro won 55.2% of votes cast, making him the next president of Latin America’s largest nation and the world’s fourth-largest democracy.

Before his election Bolsonaro was a seven-term congressman with a reputation for making  racist, misogynist, and homophobic statements while maintaining close ties with and the support of powerful religious conservatives.

Thoughts and Prayers: Bishop Henrique Soares da Costa of Palmares, a conservative Catholic bishop from Brazil who claimed COVID-19 was a “sign from God,” is dead from the virus.

Catholic News Agency reports:

Bishop Henrique Soares da Costa of Palmares, Brazil, became the latest bishop to die of COVID-19 on July 18. He died at the age of 57 after being hospitalized for more than two weeks of treatment in the intensive care unit of the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in the northeastern Brazilian state of Pernambuco.

DCM reports:

In a recent video, Dom Henrique stated that the coronavirus is “a sign from God” and that “science is always precarious.”

Bishop Costa, who campaigned for Christian fascist Jair Bolsonaro, was an outspoken advocate for ultra-conservative Christian values, often arguing that there was a “war on Christianity,” at one point declaring:

The war against Christianity is clear, heavy and methodical. You can’t play with that. Today, it is our greatest urgency.

While campaigning Costa warned that Christians must always vote for conservatives, advising:

He should never vote for anyone who defends values contrary to faith: abortion, dissolution of the family, gender ideology, aberrant sex education in schools, secularism, etc.”

In addition, Costa was an outspoken homophobic bigot, who made headlines last year by complaining about a Netflix comedy special called “The First Temptation of Christ,” which depicts Jesus as gay.

At the time Costa wrote on his popular Facebook page:

In the middle of preparing for the Lord’s Christmas, Netflix slapped all Christians in the face; spat in our face, mocking our faith…

Freedom of speech is an excuse when someone hides behind this concept to attack what is sacred, holy and precious to others…

Despite, or perhaps because of his harsh political rhetoric, conservative Catholics consider Costa a saint, and want the Catholic Church  to open a beatification case for the conservative bishop.

Catholic News Agency reports:

More than 48,000 people have signed an online petition asking the Brazilian bishops to open a beatification cause for the most recent bishop to die from the coronavirus.

Bottom line: Conservative Catholic Bishop Henrique Soares da Costa,” who claimed COVID-19 was a “sign from God” while warning that “science is always precarious,” has died from the virus.

Christian theocracy comes to Bolivia: In a disturbing development Christian fascist Luis Fernando Camacho has seized control of Bolivia via a military coup.

Comacho, a Christian fascist and paramilitary leader, is a millionaire businessman who has promised his fanatical Christian supporters that he will purge his country’s Native heritage from government and “return God” to the presidential palace.

The Council on Hemispheric Affairs reports on the “racist coup in Bolivia” led by Christian fascist Comacho:

Sunday November the 10th, at approximately 4pm (eastern standard time) the democratically elected president and vice president of Bolivia, Evo Morales and Álvaro García respectively, were forced to resign from power. This was no voluntary resignation as CNN, the New York Times and the rest of the corporate media is reporting, nor has it been accepted by the Legislative Assembly as required by the Constitution of Bolivia.[1] This was a coup that employed threats and brutality against Morales, García, members of the cabinet, congressional representatives, and their families. Both the commander in chief of the military and head of the Bolivian Police requested, in no uncertain terms, the resignation of Morales.[2] The coup forces, led by Pro-Santa Cruz Committee president Luis Fernando Camacho, continues to target Movement for Socialism (MAS) activists, progressive social movements, and Indigenous peoples of Bolivia.

Reporting on Comacho’s coup, The Grey Zone notes:

With a Bible in one hand and a national flag in the other, Camacho bowed his head in prayer above the presidential seal, fulfilling his vow to purge his country’s Native heritage from government and “return God to the burned palace.”

“Pachamama will never return to the palace,” he said, referring to the Andean Mother Earth spirit. “Bolivia belongs to Christ.”

The Grey Zone explains Comacho’s background:

He is a powerful multi-millionaire named in the Panama Papers, and an ultra-conservative Christian fundamentalist groomed by a fascist paramilitary notorious for its racist violence, with a base in Bolivia’s wealthy separatist region of Santa Cruz.

Telesur reports on Camacho’s Christian fascism:

Everything Camacho does has a strong religious bond: he mentions God in all his appearances, took the Bible to the Government Palace and urges his followers to take the virgin to the mobilizations.

Indeed, Camacho is often compared to Jair Bolsonaro, Brazil’s Christian fascist president. Both men share a contempt for indiginous peoples and cultures, while promoting a virulent and violent strain of evangelical Christianity, replete with the requisite racism and misogyny.

Referring to Camacho as “The Bolivian Bolsonaro” Telesur reports:

Known as “El Macho,” the opposition leader is openly racist, misogynist and unapologetically represents the interests of the elites in his department and the country. Using religion, especially evangelical belief, Camacho talks with a Bible in his hand and pulls on the Bolivians religious beliefs to argue that Morales is against them.

This has also been instrumentalized to push for political persecution under the name of God, repeatedly saying they will “punish” their political adversaries, going as far as tweeting on Oct. 30 that like former drug kingpin Pablo Escobar they will “write down the names of the treacherous people of this town,” in order to carry out such punishment.

The following is a sample of reactions via Twitter:

As for  former Bolivian President Evo Morales, the Mexican foreign secretary says Mexico has granted his request for asylum.

Bottom line: Christian fascist Luis Fernando Camacho has seized control of Bolivia via a military coup while claiming “Bolivia belongs to Christ.”
