BBC Presenter Jeremy Vines speaks frankly about the present state of anti Christian feeling in the UK. The comments on this article are especially interesting to read. I like one who says, “We are sleepwalking into an atheistic state.” This is how the sleepwalking works: First people stop believing in objective morality. They say this is because they ‘morality is complicated’ and ‘we want to be tolerant and forgiving to those who are in difficult moral situations’ and ‘we mustn’t... Read more

A new poll puts the White Witch of Narnia as the top fictional villain. C.S.Lewis’ work continues to ascend to the heights of the timeless classics. Did you know C.S.Lewis got quite worried at the end of his life because he was convinced his books would go out of print and he had no other significant income with which to support his stepsons? That’s humility. Read more

I know Michael Rose’s book has been out for about five years now, but I’ve only got around to reading it this week. If you’re not familiar with it, Goodbye Good Men chronicles the corruption, spiritual abuse, heresy and persecution of orthodox seminarians within Catholic seminaries over the last twenty-thirty years. Much of Rose’s research is anecdotal and one sided. He doesn’t spend much time telling us anything good at all about American seminaries, but then I guess he would... Read more

“What, I ask, is more wonderful than the beauty of God? What thought is more pleasing and satisfying than God’s majesty? What desire is as urgent and overpowering as the desire implanted by God in a soul that is completely purified of sin and cries out in its love: ‘I am woundeed by love!’? The radiance of the divine beauty is altogether beyond the power of words to describe.” — from Rules of Monks by St Basil the Great Read more

Has anyone else noticed that now Europe and the UK are going through yet another winter with record breaking cold weather and the arctic ice cap has re frozen in record time that nobody is talking about ‘global warming’ anymore? The journalists have quietly morphed the term into ‘climate change.’ Read more

Autumn Fire This morning’s Autumn sun came slanting throughthe trees of burnished orange and flaming red.Crimson and gold fire flashed against the blue, bronze and vermillion gashed, and nature bled–as if the whole world was ablaze with blood. So it seemed as we drove to school that day:the children laughing and oblivious;innocent and ignorant in their way,of insights, that to me seemed obvious. They knew nothing of brimstone or the flood. The tempest and the trumpet, the earthquakewind and fire, passed them... Read more

Mrs Longenecker (who does not suffer fools gladly) had a phone call today from a man with an Indian accent who called himself Stephen. Stephen asked to speak with ‘the lady of the house’ and when told it was she, asked, “What cable provider do you use for your TV?” Mrs. L: “We don’t have TV.” Stephen: “That’s fine. What cable company do you use for your TV?” Mrs. L: “We don’t have TV.” Stephen. “You don’t have TV?” Mrs.... Read more

I love the gospel of St Mark. It is so sudden and concise and sharp. In the short account of the Baptism of Our Lord I like how it says, ‘The heavens were torn open.’ Some translations use the more violent word (which I think is more accurate) that the heavens were ‘ripped open.’ This connects with the death of Christ where Mark also records that the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom. The veil was... Read more
