Roving Medievalist posts pictures of the little Saxon Church in Bradford on Avon, England. I first visited this sweet old church when I was a student at Oxford. I was drunk on the glories of English church architecture and made it my hobby to know the difference between pointed arches, Norman arches. I tracked all the details from Saxon to Norman to Gothic, Transitional and Perpendicular styles. When I was taken to this Saxon church it made a big impression.... Read more

The news has leaked. Someone who reads this blog saw me training to celebrate the Maronite Divine liturgy. Now everyone knows that I’m shifting over to the Maronites. Fed up with the sloppy liturgy at St Mary’s Greenville, (singing Kumbaya every week was bad enough, but having the Sisters of Groove come in for that liturgical dance workshop was the last straw) I’ve decided to “go East”.This is a natural next step. All my life I have been moving in... Read more

Convert Peter has a great little post about the Pope. Like that song from Oklahoma! “With me it’s all or nuthin’, is it all or nuthin’ with you…” Peter says you have to choose about the Pope: is he the anti-Christ or is he who is says he is: the successor of Peter and the bearer of the keys of the kingdom. You can’t just think he’s a nice guy and a good Christian leader. Once you start thinking about... Read more

Summer vacation has arrived and I’ve got loads to do. After tidying up from the loose ends at school, I’m heading for El Salvador on Saturday for a week. I’m leading a school mission trip to help at the CIDECO community. CIDECO is a village built with help from the papal foundation. The poorest of the poor are given a place to live, a school, a clinic, a church and a community that helps them break the cycle of poverty.... Read more

For Pentecost, link here to read Fr Nicholas’ account of St Philip Neri’s experience of the Holy Spirit. St Philip founded the congregation of the Oratorians. Readers will know about the wonderful Brompton Oratory in London, but Fr Tim has been to preach at the just as fine Birmingham Oratory for the feast of St Philip Neri. Link here for pictures from his visit. One thing he hasn’t pictured here in Cardinal Newman’s room. It is just as it was... Read more

Last year I finished my book on the Rosary called The Healing Rosary. Its a little practical book in which I work through the mysteries showing how they connect with the different stages of our life. Then I help the reader use the different stages to pray for healing for the things that went wrong in their own lives or the lives of others at those stages. English publishers aren’t interested…surprise surprise. “What something creative? Something fresh? No thanks.” However,... Read more
