Dan Peterson grew up in Southern California and served as a Mormon missionary in German-speaking Switzerland. He earned a degree in Greek and philosophy from Brigham Young University, having initially started as a mathematics major. He married a woman from Colorado, studied in Jerusalem for six months, and then spent four years in Cairo before completing a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures at UCLA. Dan and his wife raised three sons together. His three favorite topics are religion, history, and politics. He is deeply passionate about certain places whose grandeur captivates him, including the Berner Oberland in Switzerland, the Dolomites in northern Italy, and the Canadian Rockies.
