Right Wing Watch has a very long post documenting the full range of theocratic views held by David Lane, who has become the primary kingmaker on the religious right and thus has a very close relationship with the Republican party and elected officials and wannabe elected officials all over the country.

As I’ve said many times, it’s virtually impossible for someone to be so extremist that today’s Republican party leaders and candidates won’t identify themselves with them. They’ll go on the shows of Michael Savage, Gordon Klingenschmitt, Rick Wiles, Bryan Fischer. Ted Cruz is now doing a townhall event with Larry Pratt of Gun Owners of America.

Bryan Fischer recently told his audience that they should only go to a same-sex marriage if they first send a letter to the couple explaining why you think it’s wrong. But that was a bit too warm and fuzzy for a caller to Tony Perkins’ radio show, who said you should go only to interrupt the wedding and tell them they’re going to hell.

Charismatic Christians love to talk about the “gifts of the spirit” (healing, discernment, etc). I think I’ve discovered a new one: psychological projection. John Zmirak, editor of TV evangelist James Robison’s new site, The Stream, puts this “gift” on display in spades.

Concerned that they’ll end up with Jeb Bush as the Republican presidential candidate, Christian right leaders are straining mightily to get everyone to rally around a single candidate in the GOP clown car to unite behind and push to a glorious victory for Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him).

So CNN’s much-anticipated special about atheists on Tuesday night. My response: Meh. Except for one thing that really jumped out at me, a statement by American Atheists leader Dave Silverman that immediately had me seething. Courtney Caldwell has the brief transcript of the remarks, which irritated her as well.

I’m sure many of you remember a blog post I wrote almost a year ago entitled Atheists, Please Stop Saying These Things. It was just a critique of what I think are some very common and very bad arguments made by atheists. Someone posted a link to it on Google+ a couple weeks ago and that prompted several hangouts and discussions of it, including two by a guy named Mike, who goes by the name Forbidden Fruit. I’ll post the Youtube video below the fold, then take a look at some of what he has to say.

Tim Wildmon of the American Family Association, noting that more than a third of conservative Republicans think Obama is a Muslim, says that it’s entirely plausible that he is because he “grew up in it over there in Indonesia or somewhere.” Actually, he was in Indonesia for four years, two of which he spent going to a Catholic school.

Yes, I know – dog bites man. But what makes this column by someone named Paul Hair is particularly irritating is that he wants to rename atheists and call us “autotheists.” Because we worship ourselves. Get it? That’s so clever! Brace yourself, here comes the stupid.

If you had Tony Perkins in the pool as the next bigoted dumbass to claim that Dearborn, Michigan is a “Muslim no-go zone,” claim your prize. Fox News may have apologized several times for making that claim about Europe, but the real wingnuts are not only still saying it, they’re extending it to Michigan.

I’m almost relieved to find out that anti-gay bigots in England are every bit as stupid and obnoxious as anti-gay bigots in America. Asked about whether gay people particularly like having sex with animals, a member of the UK Independence Party said yes. Because a donkey tried to rape his horse. I’m serious.

Of all of the dishonest and hypocritical statements by the defenders of torture in the wake of the release of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s report on the matter, this statement from former CIA Director Michael Hayden could destroy every irony meter that ever has or ever will exist:
