WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing GFA’s ministry as seen through several videos.

Forty-one years ago, the Lord began answering the prayers of a young man from India, his wife and a few Christian friends who shared a burden for the millions of people in Asia who had never heard of Jesus. Little did they realize the magnitude of the ministry the Lord would initiate and prosper through their sacrificial service—or how technology would enable the Body of Christ to glimpse God’s handiwork on other side of the globe.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: As you watch these videos, may you be encouraged by the Lord’s work in Asia. Thank you for praying for the people of Asia & for GFA's ministry among them.

GFA’s Ministry Sees Multitudes Transformed

After the publication of Dr. K.P. Yohannan’s impactful book Revolution in World Missions, the ministry thrived beyond imagination. Thousands of readers have felt God prompting them to partner with Gospel for Asia (GFA), and as a result, millions in Asia have heard about the life-changing peace and joy that only Jesus can give.

Yet very few of us will ever get to travel across the world to a rural village or crowded slum in Asia to personally see the difference God is making through Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers.

Thanks to the now commonly-used technology unavailable at the beginning of the 21st century, however, the entire world can see with their own eyes the needs of Asia’s people and how the Lord is working through Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers to minister as Jesus’ hands and feet.

Gospel for Asia invites readers to watch the videos and playlists on its YouTube channel. See and hear stories that will both break and bless your heart. Check out a few of these brief GFA YouTube videos to gain a glimpse of Asia and of the lives God is touching for His glory.

Forgotten Islands No Longer Forgotten” People on this group of islands in Asia survive through backbreaking work and have few opportunities for improvement. Forgotten by most of society, they’re highly susceptible to waterborne illness, tiger attacks and many other threats. But a team of Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported national workers is bringing hope to these islanders.

How a Jesus Well Transformed Lives in India” The need for clean water amid the global water crisis, especially in parts of Asia and India, cannot be overstated. GFA’s ministry, through the provision of clean water wells and water filters, is saving the lives of children, mothers and fathers across Asia. And we’re saving these families’ time so children can attend school more often, mothers can do more with their time and fathers are healthy more often to keep working.

From Trials to Triumph: Tapan’s Testimony” Pastor Tapan’s story brings Jesus’ words in John 16:33 to life. From the moment he committed to following Christ, to his time of looking death in the face through severe illness, Pastor Tapan testifies that God truly transforms trials and torment to victory and triumph.

Visit a Bridge of Hope Center with KP Yohannan” We invite you to join Gospel for Asia’s founder, Dr. K.P. Yohannan, in his behind-the-scenes tour of a GFA-supported Bridge of Hope center in Mumbai. See the difference these centers are making in the lives of many children in Asia.

Mula: A Widow’s Story” After Mula’s husband died, Mula and her four children were struggling to survive. The Lord showed His provision to them through GFA’s Bridge of Hope program and free tailoring classes. Eventually, His peace transformed their hearts.

The Stick Gatherer – No Longer A Slumdog” Watch this gripping story as Dr. K.P. Yohannan shares the story of a young boy who ended up in a GFA-supported Bridge of Hope center. Jesus said, “Whatever you do for the least of these, you do unto me.”

My Visit to a Leprosy Colony” Ashley shares about her visit to a leprosy colony where she got to see Gospel for Asia’s leprosy ministry in action. While she visited with the patients, Ashley watched Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported national missionaries serve the patients by cleaning their wounds. Residents of the colony were despised by society, but national missionaries showed God’s love to them by treating them with dignity and concern.

Pastor Marty – Growing Up in the Slums” Do you remember your childhood? Pastor Marty does. He grew up in the slums of Mumbai in extreme poverty. Through many hardships, Marty lost all hope—until he encountered the love of Jesus in a genuine and practical way: the healing of his son. After graduating from a Bible college, he returned to the slum he grew up in and began passionately sharing Jesus’ love with those who are struggling.

Watch and Pray

As you watch these videos, may you be encouraged by the Lord’s beautiful work in Asia. Thank you for praying for the people of Asia and for GFA’s ministry among them.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing the impact a Gospel for Asia-supported Film team makes, touching countless men and women who did not know His love, whether in a village of hundreds or a village of eight.

The Man on the screen touched those with leprosy, and they were healed. He fed thousands with only a few loaves of bread. He prayed for the sick and the blind, and they recovered. The villagers saw Jesus’ love on display, and they had never seen anything like it.

Eight people sat with rapt attention, tears streaming from every eye as the Roman soldiers crucified Jesus on the cross of Calvary. One might think it was a small crowd, but the entire village of Snikithati had come out to watch the film that night. It was a film that had come to them after a unique chain of events—and a faithful team of brothers willing to follow God wherever He would lead them.

Film Show in Jigishati Village Interrupted—Twice

Several days before, a much larger crowd of people in the nearby village of Jigishati had gathered to watch the same film. The Gospel for Asia (GFA) film team put the finishing touches on the setup for the evening: speakers—check; projector—check; screen, DVD player, DVD—check. Everything was good to go. Gospel for Asia missionary Raahi and the rest of the film team prayed before starting the show.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing the impact a Gospel for Asia-supported Film team makes, touching countless men and women who did not know His love, whether in a village of hundreds or a village of eight.
Raahi and the film team started showing a film about Jesus in Jigishati village, only to be opposed halfway through and asked to leave. Some villagers asked Raahi to come back, and he did—only to be asked to leave once more.

About halfway through the movie, a few villagers angrily approached and demanded Raahi leave Jigishati, even though he had gotten permission from the village leaders to show the film. The film team packed up their equipment and left, but they continued to pray for the people of Jigishati village. Soon, some villagers approached them. They asked Raahi if he could come back and show the film in its entirety.

Raahi saw this as an answer to prayer, but once again, halfway through the showing, a few angry villagers told them to leave. Once again, the team packed up to depart while a man named Harshal looked on.

Excited Village Prepares for Film Show

Harshal was visiting Jigishati village the day of the second film show. It grieved him to see how the people of Jigishati village treated Raahi and how they interrupted the film show. Harshal, who was sympathetic toward Christians, wanted to know more about Jesus. He decided to ask Raahi and the team to visit him in his village, Cholanoor, and show the film there. Raahi gladly agreed, and they set a date for the showing.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Film Teams and National Missionaries
Harshal happened to be in Jigishati when the film showed the second time. Grieved by how the team was asked to leave and curious to know more about Jesus, Harshal asked Raahi to visit his village of Cholanoor and show the film there.

When the team arrived in Cholanoor, they found that Harshal had already done most of the preparations for the showing. In his excitement, Harshal had invited the village to the film, set up posts to attach the screen and even strung out wires to provide electricity.

Family in Cholanoor Healed After Watching Film

Among those crowded around the screen that night was a couple named Dalpati and Daya. Their 12-year-old daughter had been suffering from a fever for 15 days with no cure in sight, though they had taken her to see many doctors.

As they watched Jesus heal the blind, touch the lepers and cast out demons, God gave Dalpati and Daya the faith to trust Him for their daughter’s restoration.

After the movie ended, the couple approached the film team for prayer. Raahi encouraged them from the Word of God and prayed for the girl’s healing. When God touched her and restored her to good health, Dalpati and Daya decided they wanted to know more about this Jesus who heals.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Film Teams led by National Missionaries
After the team showed the film in Cholanoor, Dalpati and Daya, parents of a feverish child, asked for prayer. Through the film, God had given them faith to trust Jesus for their daughter’s healing.

But that wasn’t the only thing God did that night.

Visitor Asks for Film Showing in Snikithati Village

A man named Krishanu, from the neighboring village of Snikithati, watched the film in Cholanoor that night. Jesus’ love and compassion inspired Him, and he thought of the men and women in his village. He wanted them to understand more about Jesus too, so when the film was over, he approached Raahi and asked him if it would be possible to show the film in his village as well.

When the time came, Krishanu and his seven neighbors—the entire village—gathered around the film team as they set up the screen, connected their equipment and prepared for the evening. They had never seen such devices in their tiny village, and they had never seen such a film.

Witnessing Jesus’ compassion and crucifixion brought tears to the eyes of every soul in Snikithati.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Film Teams
When Krishanu, who visited from nearby, saw the film in Cholanoor, he thought of the people in his village. He asked Raahi and the team to show the film in Snikithati. When Raahi did, the entire village gathered—all eight people—to watch the film.

Gospel for Asia-supported Film Team Continues to Serve God

Today, believers from Jigishati, Cholanoor and Snikithati are worshiping Jesus and telling others of His great love, while Raahi and the film team continue to minister and bring Christ’s Good News through film. The Lord is using film teams to touch countless men and women who did not know His love, whether in a village of hundreds or a village of eight.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: National Missionaries who are a part of Film Teams
Today, people gather in many of the villages Raahi and the film team have visited through the years. These brothers faithfully continue to serve God by sharing His love for all people, following Jesus to village after village, through all the unexpected chains of events.

You can equip more film teams like Raahi’s and enable them to reach people in the most remote villages with the love of the Savior.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Ranjini, a widow afflicted with leprosy, impoverished and alone, and the Gospel for Asia-supported workers who show God’s love and care even for the shunned and rejected.

“What shall I do?” Ranjini wondered aloud. Ranjini powerlessly watched her hands and feet deteriorating before her eyes. As a widow and a person afflicted with leprosy, Ranjini needed help. But so many people in her society turned a blind eye to widows and leprosy patients, and she was both; who would trouble themselves about her?

Happy Life Gives Way to Grief

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Ranjini, a widow afflicted with leprosy, impoverished and alone, and the Gospel for Asia supported workers who show God's love and care even for the shunned and rejected.
Ranjini (pictured) had no one to call on for help. She was lost in the masses, just another widow and leprosy patient in need of help, which few people in her society offered.

Ranjini had known happy days years earlier when family surrounded her, when she had money to buy sweets and flowers to give to her deities in worship, when her life felt normal. She had smiled at her daughter’s wedding, an event she had anticipated since her girl’s birth. Ranjini felt pleased with the new life her daughter held as a wife, even though it meant the new bride now lived with her in-laws in a distant place.

But despite the once happy life, tragedy crept in when she contracted leprosy and, later, when her husband died. With her daughter married and gone, Ranjini lived alone and impoverished.

For centuries, leprosy patients have suffered extreme ostracism in addition to the devastating physical effects of their disease. Annually, around 200,000 people, young and old, discover they’ve contracted leprosy (also known as Hansen’s disease) , and many are subsequently abandoned by their families and by society.

For many, the diagnosis steals their identity. Instead of being seen as valuable human beings in need of help and support, they are seen as a threat to public health, as cursed. Even today, abandonment of people with leprosy is socially acceptable in many cultures, and in some nations, it is even allowable through legislation.

Ranjini spent her days humbly asking for alms from passersby, hoping to receive enough to get by each day. At the same time, leprosy slowly crept throughout her body and caused irreparable damage to her hands and feet. How much longer could she survive on her own? Ranjini couldn’t ask her daughter to leave her in-laws and husband to care for her, but she knew no one else to turn to—until she talked with a neighbor friend and voiced her desperate question once more.

Learning Someone Cares

Ranjini bemoaned her situation to her neighbor, Joti, one day.

“I have no one to look after me. I cannot call my daughter to live here with me,” Ranjini said. “My wound is also growing every day. What shall I do?”

The answer she received changed the course of Ranjini’s life.

Joti loved Jesus and worshiped Him at a church led by Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Daha. She knew Pastor Daha had a special place in his heart for people suffering with leprosy—a rare attitude in a society where leprosy patients are commonly shunned. Joti told Ranjini that if she would go see Pastor Daha, he would gladly attend to her wounds, and what’s more, he would do it free of charge.

Ranjini’s world changed that day. Someone cared about her needs as a leprosy sufferer and had dedicated his life to helping her and other patients! Ranjini had to meet him.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Pastor Daha cleaned Ranjini’s wounds and demonstrated kindness and respect toward her. The words of hope he shared gave her a new outlook on the future, and Ranjini came frequently to worship and learn more about Christ.

Kindness Points to Loving Savior

Soon, Ranjini accompanied Joti to the church and met Pastor Daha. He welcomed her with genuine love. He applied medicine to her wounds and wrapped protective bandages around them, all while treating her as someone he—and God—valued. Pastor Daha shared things that amazed Ranjini. He told her God had sent him there to care for her, and that God loved her and wanted to be part of her life.

After living as an outcast for so long, this amazing news and demonstration of kindness came as a welcome surprise. Touched by her reception at the church, Ranjini began attending worship services the following Sunday and learning more about Jesus.

Over the following weeks, Ranjini “tasted and saw” that the Lord is good and that He blesses those who trust in Him. As she learned more about Christ, Ranjini understood the true depth of her need for Him, not just as a provider of aid in her time of need but also as her Savior and Redeemer. Three months after her first visit to Pastor Daha’s church, Ranjini opened her heart to Jesus.

Ranjini doesn’t live alone anymore—Jesus is at home in her heart—and she doesn’t need to worry about her future. She knows her Maker sees her and knows her needs, and she knows His children do too.

Make the Neglected a Personal Priority

Thankfully, men and women across the globe—like Pastor Daha—are championing the cause of people with leprosy. Many Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers focus on serving neglected leprosy patients by helping them in simple yet significant ways. They cook meals, clean homes, help with personal hygiene, comfort lonely hearts and treat wounds, all in the name of Christ. By showing patients the respect and care they deserve, these workers are bringing Christ’s love to thousands.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Even amidst a very difficult life, leprosy patients like this woman are able to smile when they glimpse the love of their Maker. Today, you can help Gospel for Asia-supported workers demonstrate God’s deep love and care for more people afflicted with leprosy.

Today, you can help give vital care to leprosy patients by supporting the work of Gospel for Asia-supported leprosy ministry. Your donation will send hope and practical help to men and women like Ranjini, many of whom don’t yet know anyone cares for them.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing the stigma of having leprosy, the suffering, humiliation, and the love of Christ shown through those like a Gospel for Asia (GFA) supported pastor, and Sisters of Compassion (specialized women missionaries).

Balwant looked at the well near his house. He wondered if he could do it, if he could jump in and end his life. Would it be quick? Would it be painless? He had already experienced more pain than he wanted to endure. Death would be a welcome end to this marred life of illness and rejection he was now living. He didn’t know what else he could do.

The Stigma of Having Leprosy

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing the stigma of having leprosy, the suffering, humiliation, and the love of Christ shown through those like a Gospel for Asia missionaries.Balwant was an educated man who worked as a tutor, helping the children in his village with their studies. He had a wife, three daughters and son. When he was in his 30s, he noticed white patches on his leg. They itched and then became numb. It turned out to be leprosy, a chronic skin disease that can cause serious nerve damage and leave a person disfigured if left untreated.

Even though the disease is curable with a multidrug treatment, the stigma that comes along with it is not.

When the people in Balwant’s village found out he had leprosy, they started avoiding him. Balwant was one of tens of thousands of people in South Asia suffering from leprosy and the humiliation and ostracism that comes along with it. For centuries, leprosy patients have been barred from accessing common wells or participating in festivals, because people believe their presence increases the risk of contagion. They’re often rejected, even by family members who fear they, too, will “catch” the disease or have to endure social rejection because of them.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Balwant was one of tens of thousands of people in South Asia suffering from leprosy and the humiliation and ostracism that comes along with it.
Balwant was one of tens of thousands of people in South Asia suffering from leprosy and the humiliation and ostracism that comes along with it.

There are some people who even think leprosy is a punishment from the gods for past sins, so they avoid those affected because they do not want to incur the wrath of the gods.

Balwant and his family ended up moving from the village.

Hospital Visit Leaves Man with Amputated Leg

By the time Balwant went to a mission hospital for treatment, the disease had progressed so severely that he was transferred to another hospital for better medical care. Because the leprosy had been eating away at the nerves in his right leg, doctors amputated Balwant’s leg at the knee.

Balwant was now weak, unable to work and unable to afford the medical treatments necessary to help cure him of the high blood pressure and diabetes he had developed as well.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Twenty-eight years of suffering from leprosy left Balwant weary of life. He didn’t want to be a burden to his family. He didn’t want to live, so he plotted to end his own life.
Twenty-eight years of suffering from leprosy left Balwant weary of life. He didn’t want to be a burden to his family. He didn’t want to live, so he plotted to end his own life.

Man Longs for Death to End His Suffering

Twenty-eight years of suffering from leprosy, and now high blood pressure and diabetes, had taken more than just a physical toll on Balwant; they left him weary of life. He didn’t want to suffer anymore.

Balwant thought death would take away his shame, that death would relieve his family members of the burden of caring for him, that death would resolve all his problems. He wanted to hang himself, but the disease had riddled away his muscles, leaving him without strength in his hands or leg to carry out his self-imposed death sentence.

There was a well nearby his house, though. He’d see it and wonder if he could end his suffering simply by jumping in. Days passed, and he mentally prepared himself to end his own life.

Man Realizes Value of Human Life

In the midst of this misery, Balwant met Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Daha and three Sisters of Compassion, specialized women missionaries.

Every Saturday, Pastor Daha would visit with the people in Balwant’s community to offer encouragement and to pray for their needs. He had heard of Balwant’s condition, so he and the three Sisters of Compassion, Ujvala, Leena and Puji, decided to visit him.

After listening to Pastor Daha share about Jesus Christ and His compassion, Balwant felt a stirring in his heart. He opened up to the pastor and missionaries and told them of his agony and his plans to end his life.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: As Balwant spent time learning more about Jesus through the love and care of Pastor Daha and the three Sisters of Compassion, he stopped plotting his own death and began to live again.
As Balwant spent time learning more about Jesus through the love and care of Pastor Daha and the three Sisters of Compassion, he stopped plotting his own death and began to live again.

Pastor Daha and the sisters prayed for the suffering man and encouraged him from God’s Word. For many days, they prayed for him, and Balwant’s health began to improve. He also felt a peace that surpasses understanding grow in his heart and mind, and he began to realize how valuable his life was.

Christ’s Love Shown Through Servants Touches Man

Pastor Daha, Ujvala, Leena and Puji visited Balwant and his wife regularly. They helped them fetch water and chop vegetables. They even trimmed Balwant’s nails for him—a small task that many leprosy patients can’t do for themselves—showing him the tender love of Christ.

“I was emotionally weak and thought to end my life,” Balwant said, “but I found Jesus in the right time. I thank God that He loves me.”

A few months after Balwant discovered the love of His Savior, he became ill with jaundice. He passed away Dec. 29, 2015, and now gets to spend eternity with the One who loves him—redeemed and fully restored. Truly, he did find Jesus at just the right time.

Every year, there are nearly 230,000 new cases of people diagnosed with leprosy. About 60 percent of those cases concern people living in India alone. While leprosy is a curable disease, many men, women and even children find themselves abandoned and scorned because of it. Like Balwant, they live with shame and hopelessness as their constant companions. But God is using His servants to give these precious people hope and new life in Him—and you can help.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA, www.gfa.org) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing national missionary’s labor of faith to bring villages to Jesus, the persecution believers faced, even being hindered to build a church, and the faithfulness of God through it all.

Pastor Sudhir Marak strolled into the village and immediately recognized its poverty. It was seeping from the walls of every home and was evident in the children who ran past him to go to the fields to work. The families struggled for survival with no education, medical facilities or transportation. But Sudhir had Good News to give them, and even when the villagers rejected Sudhir’s message, it just took one woman for them to listen.

Pastor Shares for More Than One Year

Pastor Sudhir began sharing Christ’s love by visiting homes and encouraging people from the Bible. He prayed for those who were sick, leaving families that witnessed a healing wondering who Jesus is.

Yet for each person Pastor Sudhir prayed with, it seemed there was someone else accusing him and telling him not to come back.

Still, this did not discourage Sudhir, and he continued to visit the families that would receive him. He prayed and saw miracles happen. But at the end of the year, those who had come to believe in Jesus feared the consequences of publicly confessing their faith.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan - Discussing national missionary Pastor Sudhir, bringing villages to Jesus, the persecution, even being hindered to build a church, & the faithfulness of God.Young Woman Seeks Healing

Sudhir pressed on and continued to share the love of Jesus with the villagers. He eventually met a young woman, Taseem, who suffered from a sickness that had her body itching for more than three months. Because there was no hospital nearby or money to buy medication, she stayed in bed, discouraged.

Listening to Taseem’s struggles, Pastor Sudhir kindly shared about Jesus’ love and assured her that, “If you believe in Jesus and depend on Him, Jesus can heal you.”

Confident of Pastor Sudhir’s words, Taseem responded that she would open her heart to Jesus if she were healed from this sickness. Sudhir prayed with her and gave her a New Testament.

Sudhir continued to visit Taseem and pray for her, and one day she was able to get out of bed and was completely healed from the sickness. She recognized that Jesus is the one who healed her, and instead of fearing her neighbors, she decided to embrace His love.

Within a few months, 10 other households also chose to follow Jesus.

New Congregation Outgrows Meeting Place

The new believers went to Sudhir’s home each week to learn more about Jesus and worship Him, but soon there wasn’t any room for anyone else to join them. Each day that passed, the congregation prayed fervently to be able to build a church.

Before long, the congregation began construction on a church building. But as the walls went up, opposition from other villagers came.

They threatened to damage the building, harm the believers and even build a temple in the church’s place.

With the widespread attacks, the construction stopped. Yet that didn’t stop the believers from still praying for the church building.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan - Discussing national missionary Pastor Sudhir, bringing villages to Jesus, the persecution, even being hindered to build a church.

Time-Tested, Now Complete

Eventually, construction began again only to be stopped by threats. The pattern would continue for years. For seven years, Pastor Sudhir and the believers prayed for the church building’s completion.

As a result of their continuous prayers, those who opposed the construction relented from their resistance. The church building was completed on August 26, 2012, and now Taseem and her fellow believers have plenty of room to grow and worship God.

With all the joy of children, the congregation danced in the new church building, a testament that Jesus answers prayers.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan - Discussing national missionary Pastor Sudhir, bringing villages to Jesus, even being hindered to build a church, & the faithfulness of God.

Just as this congregation prayed for seven years, so are many other congregations praying to be able to build a church of their own. You can be part of giving joy to another group of believers by giving towards a church building.

Learn how to help communities seek Christ, by providing permanent church buildings for worship – an investment in the lives of many, for eternity.

Self-sacrifice Sacrificial living has always been a objective of Gospel for Asia (GFA), beginning with the founder’s office and extending to the thousands of partner-supported workers at home and in the field. K.P.’s passion for Jesus, love for the “least of these,” humility, and integrity have set a godly standard for others to follow.

Gospel for Asia, K.P. Yohannan’s passion for Jesus, love for the “least of these,” humility, and integrity have set a godly standard for others to follow.

However, no individual or institution is exempt from criticism, just or unjust. The faith-based missions organization headquartered 45 miles east of Dallas, Texas, is no exception.

The owner of a successful electronics manufacturing company once said, “The higher we raise our flag, the more people will shoot at it.” He made the statement when his company was relatively small. He was pondering the potential disparagement that he believed would surely follow on the heels of the company’s future growth.

His words were almost as accurately prophetic as were Jesus’ when He said, “In this world, you will have trouble” (John 16:33). The Bible also explains that trouble is just the first stepping stone on the path of patience, experience, hope, and enduring satisfaction. (Romans 5:4-5)

Yet, when criticism comes our way, we can almost always take comfort in the steadfast encouragement and endorsement of others.

Gospel for Asia (GFA) is particularly encouraged by and thankful for the following comments from outstanding Christian leaders. Hopefully, you will be encouraged as well.

Dr. David Mains, pastor, author, and broadcaster:

“I have known and worked closely with Dr. K.P. Yohannan. . . [for] over four decades. … His preaching still stirs my soul. I believe 100% in his integrity.”

Francis Chan, pastor and author:

“K.P. has been a mentor to me for years. The way that he speaks to God and about Him is different from anyone else I know. His words and actions have led to me loving Jesus more consistently and deeply. He continues to be an example to me. For this, I am eternally grateful.”

Rev. Paul Louis Cole, president of Christian Men’s Network:

Dr. K.P. Yohannan is a missionary statesman, a pastor to pastors, a mission leader to mission leaders, and a father to the fatherless. … In a unanimous decision, the CMN board presented Dr. Yohannan with the first annual Reggie White Fatherhood Award, to honor his demonstration for over 40 years of what it means to be a father by providing leadership to compassionate workers of faith and hope to the defeated.”

Greg Gordon, founder of Sermonindex.net:

“I have seen firsthand the work in Asia, the training of ministry leaders, churches, and Bridge of Hope centers. Frugality, simplicity, and godly wisdom is obvious in all the work. Everything is done for an eternal purpose with longevity of a church in mind where millions are experiencing Christ’s love who have never heard the name of Jesus. Dr. K.P. Yohannan has emulated this example of sacrifice and commitment to Jesus.”

Jeff Lutes, president and founder of International Harvesters for Christ, Canada:

Gospel for Asia (GFA) has been uniquely raised up ‘for such a time as this.’ Only God’s sovereign power could explain how ‘earthen vessels’ make such a dramatic difference. … Spending time with K.P. personally reiterated to me that it is all so simple: God loves Asia, and He demonstrates it every day through GFA.”

Only the Lord knows the opportunities He will have for Gospel for Asia (GFA). Consider becoming a prayer partner with a community of believers who have set aside their own lives to reach tens of thousands of others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Gospel for Asia’s ministry commitments during the past 40 years and how they have remained the same but have taken on new forms over the decades.

On July 3 of this past year, Gospel for Asia (GFA) celebrated the 40th anniversary of its founding on July 3, 1979. Throughout these years, the Lord has continually allowed us the privilege of seeing lives in Asia change for the better. He has proven Himself faithful in every way, and we rejoice in what He has done in and through this ministry.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan celebrated it's 40th anniversary on July 3. Our ministry commitments during these 40 years has remained the same but has taken on new forms over the decades. We are thankful for our many faithful supporters, through whom the Lord has worked to touch the lives of countless millions in Asia. And we are grateful for the men and women serving on the field, giving of their time, energy, emotion and every part of their lives in order that more may experience the love of God.

Our vision for ministry during these 40 years has remained the same, but the working out of that vision has taken on new forms over the decades. Here are just a few of the ways Gospel for Asia (GFA) focuses on helping the people of Asia.

  • Transformation. The foundation of Gospel for Asia’s ministry is, and always has been, doing whatever possible to help transform families and communities with God’s love, especially among those who have little or no opportunity to hear of His grace. Tens of thousands have joyfully understood Christ’s offer of new life and have chosen to follow Jesus over the past 40 years.
  • Compassion. Every personal connection with the people of Asia springs from the same compassion that Jesus demonstrates for all the people of this world. Gospel for Asia (GFA) workers are devoted to not only telling others about Jesus but also to personifying His love in action. This is how we become the hands and feet of Jesus. Compassion takes on many forms, from treating the heartbreak and physical wounds of leprosy patients to giving women sources of income to prevent prostitution to providing aid to families suffering in the wake of natural disasters. GFA-supported Sisters of Compassion are committed to serving the Lord by doing some of the lowliest tasks associated with tending to the downcast.
  • Sanitation. Inadequate sanitation continues to be a common problem in emerging countries. Even in countries where economic growth is being driven to new heights, millions suffer from unsanitary waste removal. Hundreds of thousands of people in remote villages across Asia continue to practice open defecation, creating breeding grounds for vector-borne diseases. Gospel for Asia (GFA) is transforming the lives of families and entire villages through improved sanitation. In 2016 and 2018 combined, GFA installed more than 17,500 sanitary toilet facilities in needy communities.
  • Health & Healing. Health and hygiene are among the many concerns and issues today. Disease affects millions and kills just as many. Some of the hardest-hit communities are in South Asia, where poverty and destitution leave families vulnerable to many illnesses. Unable to afford medical care or proper food, many people are afflicted by preventable diseases that are ravaging their lives. GFA-supported health initiatives seek to minister to these people and bring them health and hope amidst their troubles. GFA-supported workers organize medical camps to curb disease rates and care for those already sick. Whether it be in remote villages or crowded cities, the sick and the hurt bring hope and comfort. When many are otherwise unable to afford treatment or lack access to medical care, these camps provide them with the care they need—free of charge. Gospel for Asia (GFA) conducted more than 1,100 medical camps in 2018. That is more than an average of three per day.

  • Practical Empowerment. It takes more than encouragement to empower people who have either no marketable skills or means to generate income. GFA-supported workers provide literacy training for tens of thousands of women each year. Through Gospel for Asia’s Women’s Literacy Program, the written world is opening up to thousands of women for the very first time. The foundational text for the classes is Scripture, so participants gain Biblical knowledge even before they’ve completed the course. Knowing how to read is one step. Having a marketable skill is another. GFA-supported workers organize vocational training that makes it possible to learn a new trade and succeed. For instance, through a six-month tailoring course, women learn how to sew blouses, trousers, undergarments, and many other practical items they can sell to provide a healthy income for their families. Nonetheless, those women could not generate income without the proper tools. GFA-supported workers provided nearly 9,000 sewing machines in 2019 to women trained in their use.

These ministries remain just a part of all that Gospel for Asia (GFA) is committed to doing to share God’s love with the people of South Asia. Whenever we see a need, we ask the Lord, “What can we do?”

Please pray with us that we will be able to continue sharing hope, practical help and God’s love throughout South Asia.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Elangbam and his family, a history of crime and rebellion, experiencing debilitating sickness, and from resisting the message Gospel for Asia-supported women missionaries bring, received healing for His body and Jesus in his heart.

Elangbam may have only been 16 years old when he joined a local militant group, but he instantly took on the duties of a man. As the years went by, he rose through the ranks of the group and became their financial leader. With this extravagant experience, his future was full of potential. But in one moment, it all came crashing around him.

The police captured him, putting an end to his rebel lifestyle. When the police released him, Elangbam abandoned his past and moved to a new village. He married and began farming for a living. He made a quiet life with his wife and their five children. His unspeakable crimes faded into the past and life was comfortable—until three strange women arrived in the village.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan Discussing Elangbam and his family, a history of crime and rebellion, experiencing debilitating sickness, and from resisting the message Gospel for Asia-supported women missionaries bring, received healing for His body and Jesus in his heart.Missionaries Befriend Village’s Young Women

When Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported women missionaries Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva moved in, the villagers were shocked by their different lifestyle. Instead of staying near the home, as was culturally expected, these women spent their days visiting the homes of other people and trying to make new friends. What the missionaries saw as kindness, the villagers saw as loose character.

Still, Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva continued visiting with those who would receive them. Eventually, some of the young women in the village opened up to the missionaries and befriended them.

One of these women was Elangbam’s 19-year-old daughter, Nabati. As she watched the missionaries and heard what God had done in their lives, she decided to open her heart to Jesus.

Overwhelmed by Christ’s love, she began telling her family about Jesus, but they responded harshly to her.

“Have you gone insane?” they asked her.

“Do you know what you are saying? You have been fooled by your Christian friends. Do not mingle with them anymore because then you are going to talk nonsense.”

With that, she was banned from seeing her new friends.

Daughter Prays for Family to Know Jesus

Nabati continued to pray for her family despite the pain of their harsh words, and she found ways to visit the missionaries in secret. She asked them to visit her family, but the hostility the missionaries received from Nabati’s family greatly discouraged them from visiting.

One day, Elangbam became ill. He tried to visit a doctor and the local witch doctor, but he could not afford enough visits to get well.

When Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva heard of Elangbam’s sickness, they gathered some fruit and snacks to take to him. They shared the confidence that Jesus could heal him, and they prayed for him.

From then on, Nabati kept the missionaries informed of her father’s condition. As his health worsened, he soon lost the ability to move without feeling pain.

Soon, the entire village knew of his depleting health and was solicitous about how he would ever get better. Nabati became more worried when her father hadn’t improved even a week after the missionaries visited and prayed.

Prayers Restore Father to Good Health

The women missionaries remained sure that Jesus could heal Elangbam and encouraged Nabati to also trust Him.

One month later, Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva were walking through the village when they saw Elangbam outside, in no pain at all. Filled with joy, he told them their prayers and his daughter’s faith had brought him healing.

From then on, Elangbam and his wife began treating the missionaries differently. They welcomed Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva into their home and their hearts slowly changed as they listened to the message of Jesus.

Through this incredible healing, many other villagers began treating the missionaries with respect. Today, women missionaries continue to shine the light of Jesus in this place.

Villages all across South Asia are still waiting to see the transformational love of Christ lived out. You can help them experience His healing touch by sending more Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported women missionaries just like Kalyani, Padmavasa and Reva.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Khandra and her family, her bouts with illness, and the health care and medicine provided by Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported medical camps.

Enough was enough, the laborers decided. Kandhara’s fellow tea laborers began protesting their working conditions and low pay. As the days turned into weeks and months, the protests continued—which meant no pay for any of the workers, including Kandhara.

Limited Resources

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Khandra and her family, her bouts with illness, and the health care and medicine provided by Gospel for Asia-supported medical camps.
Kandhara (pictured) received free treatment through the medical camp that her son’s Bridge of Hope center had organized.

Kandhara and her husband worked hard, but their combined income was only enough to feed them and their two children. When the strike occurred, however, Kandhara’s pay did not come. Their only source of money was from Kandhara’s husband, who worked some distance away and only returned once a month to bring money. But his earnings alone couldn’t make ends meet.

One day during the strike, Kandhara fell ill. Her husband wasn’t due to return yet, leaving Kandhara alone to bear her sickness. The nearest hospital was located more than 7 miles away—too far for the sick woman to travel. But despite her high fever and near-constant headaches, Kandhara somehow fed her children and sent them to school on her little savings.

The Gift of Healing

One day, Kandhara’s 13-year-old son, Abhin, came home from school with some news. Abhin attends the local Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported Bridge of Hope center, and he had learned that the center was organizing a free medical camp. When Kandhara heard this, her heart soared with hope. This was a chance to get some reprieve from this illness that haunted her.

When the day of the medical camp arrived, Kandhara and her children made the very short journey. Once there, doctors examined Kandhara and gave her some medication that would alleviate her constant headaches and fever. Along with the medication, Kandhara also received free vitamin supplements for herself and her children. Because the food Kandhara could afford provided little in the way of vitamins, she and her children were suffering from deficiencies.

After diligently taking the medication for an entire month, Kandhara was completely healed. The sickness left, and her strength returned.

“I was not able to get any medicines when I was severely sick because I did not have money on hand and was very weak to travel,” Kandhara says. “But I was able to attend [the] free medical camp … where I could get free medicines for my sickness.”

Kandhara thanked the Bridge of Hope staff and doctors, saying, “This was a great blessing for me and my family.”

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Shanti, her family, her chronic bouts with tuberculosis, the helplessness and grief, and the hope, healing and peace brought about by Gospel literature and the ministry of Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported missionaries.

When Muktananda sent his wife, Shanti, up to the terrace, he expected her to return freshened up for a visit with her relatives and neighbors—not making declarations about a new religion. Yet there she was, tears in her eyes, clutching a strange book to her chest and announcing the impossible: She had found a new God on the way to the bathroom.

Gospel for Asia (GFA, www.gfa.org) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan – Discussing Shanti, her family, her chronic bouts with tuberculosis, the helplessness and grief, and the hope, healing and peace brought about by Gospel literature and the ministry of Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries.

Wife Sick for 10 Years

Shanti had been sick for the last decade, beginning with six years of seizures and continuing with tuberculosis. In a time when her body most needed rest, she was overcome by unexplainable fears each night.

“I almost became insane. … I used to stay home weeping all day,” Shanti said. “My two sons used to cry with me since I was not even able to cook food. They used to fear that I would die soon.”

Throughout her suffering, Shanti begged her gods for relief, regularly performing rituals for their attention. When that didn’t work, she asked her doctors for stronger medicine, but they insisted they were already giving her the strongest dose they could.

When Shanti started struggling to breathe one day, she gave up on her search for healing.

“I told my sons to bring some acid,” Shanti said, “so I could drink it and die.”

Husband Calls Christians for Prayer

Shanti’s family didn’t bring her acid, but they did watch as her situation grew more hopeless.

One day, Muktananda decided to call a Christian television channel that offered prayer at the end of each show. Obediently, Shanti listened as the Christians prayed over the phone, though she remained unconvinced that it would do anything.

When Shanti’s relatives came over that day, she and her husband talked about the phone call, and the relatives shared that they had Christian neighbors in their building who would also pray for Shanti.

Muktananda decided they should visit these Christians, too, and asked Shanti to go up to their terrace bathroom and wash up before they went.

The whole way up the stairs, Shanti thought, I am not going to make it today. Surely I am going to die. When she got to the roof, however, she found a book called The Gospel of John leaning against the wall.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan – Discussing Shanti, her family, her tuberculosis, her grief, & the hope, healing & peace brought about by Gospel literature and Gospel for Asia-supported missionaries.

Wife Reads Mysterious Book

“I started wondering how this book reached our terrace,” Shanti said. “We didn’t know any Christian who would give us this book.”

Indeed, her relatives’ Christian neighbors often gave literature to the many local children who came to visit, but Shanti’s sons were never among them.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan – Discussing the hope, healing & peace brought about by Gospel literature and Gospel for Asia missionaries. With her family still waiting, Shanti began to read the mysterious book and found she couldn’t stop. Her heart filled with joy when she reached Christ’s words in John 15:16:

“You did not choose me, but I have chosen you.”

Assured of Jesus’ love, Shanti wept as she went downstairs and showed the book to Muktananda.

“I told my husband that this is the real God,” Shanti said.

Couple Visits Missionaries for Prayer

Full of hope, Shanti and Muktananda went to their relatives’ home to meet with the Christian neighbors: Balika and Sadhvi, who served as Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported women missionaries, and a local Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor, Kavi, who happened to be visiting.

The missionaries shared the Good News with the couple and invited them to come to church. Later that week, the missionaries came to the couple’s house to pray and tell them more about Jesus.

By Sunday, Shanti had great hopes for her first church service, but they were shattered the instant she walked into the building.

“To my disappointment,” she said, “I found no Jesus at the church.”

All her life, Shanti had worshiped gods by praying before their images, but there were no images of Jesus Christ in this church building. The God she sought was nowhere to be seen.

Missionaries Teach Family About Christ

“I cried a lot that day in the church, thinking Jesus was not there,” Shanti said.

When Pastor Kavi realized what was wrong, he explained why Jesus doesn’t need an image to represent Himself. He encouraged her with the story of the blind man who was healed after praying to Jesus.

That night, the Lord appeared to Shanti in a dream, saying she would be healed. Believing Him, Shanti asked the missionaries to pray for her again.

As Pastor Kavi, Balika and Sadhvi continued visiting and praying for Shanti, her health improved. After one month, Muktananda and her sons put their full trust in Christ, too.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan – Discussing the hope, healing & peace brought about by Gospel literature.

Since she gave her life to Christ, Shanti’s health problems have disappeared completely. And now, instead of crying with her sons while Muktananda goes to work, Shanti writes praise songs. She also spends much of her time reading the Bible—without which she says, “I would not have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. By reading the Gospel according to John, I believed in Jesus Christ.”

By giving God’s Word to someone like Shanti, you give her the chance to hear not just from a missionary but from the Lord Himself. Give toward Gospel literature today and see how He will transform lives.
