Zsuzsanna Anderson Questionable Baby Care?

Zsuzsanna Anderson Questionable Baby Care? January 8, 2020

Found this video of Zsuzsanna Anderson, wife of hate pastor Steven Anderson of Faithful Word Baptist Church on a Facebook group I am a member of. It’s a quick little video of Zsuzsanna explaining how she’s taken her girls away from a little special treat, a retreat.

What’s so awful of the the video is how Zsu treats her weeping baby. First we come upon the baby laying unsupervised crying on a regular bed, but it’s moments later when Zsu is unwilling to put down her phone to lift the baby. She grabs and lifts the baby by it’s arm, putting the entire weight of the baby on it’s fragile tiny arm. This happens at the 5 minute and 4 second mark.

Where’s CPS when you need them? Clearly this is some awful parenting, awful parenting right on camera. Please do not take parenting advice from this woman.

They’re up to 11 kids now. Statistically, at least one of those kids is gonna show same-sex attraction.
I fear for that kid, growing up in that hate-filled environment.
How will Steven and ZsuZsu respond? As loving, understanding, parents?….

  • Jezebel’sOlderSister

After this video, I wonder how many of the kids will make it to adulthood.

  • Tawreos

The only good part of that is that there are many countries that the kid could run to to avoid the wrath of their father.

  • Tawreos

How else will the kid learn that it shouldn’t be crying while mom is making a video and knows that she can’t correct the child in the Pearl way while the video is running?

I don’t know how these people can actually follow through with actions like that since I feel sick just typing that thought with no intent to act on it.

  • AFo

If the kids ever see this video, they’re going to see just how high on their mother’s list of priorities they were. It always makes me crazy that these women who say motherhood is the only job a woman should have can’t be bothered to be true mothers to their kids.

  • Tawreos

The problem is that the kids won’t notice. Kids rarely do. This type of treatment is all they would know so they would have nothing to compare it to and the cycle of abuse will continue.

From what I’ve been told about Arizona CPS, they’re heavily overworked, and there’s a massive backlog. I seem to recall hearing that CPS is underfunded too, and I’m going to point out that Arizona’s a state so red it’s scarlet. Even if this were reported, I wouldn’t count on CPS to do a whole lot, since they probably won’t be able to do much without bruising or other very obvious signs.

Lawmakers for the state don’t really seem to care all that much, and there is a powerful religious factor in state politics. I think we have folks around here that believe that if someone is ‘faithful’ they won’t abuse children, but I’ve never seen it work that way.

When I was a kid, a friend of mine picked her little brother up by his arm (we were about 10 and he was about 2) and dislocated either his shoulder or elbow. I don’t remember exactly which one. It’s not a good thing to do.

It also looks like she left the cover of the hot tub open after she showed it in her tour.

I hold out more hope than you, dear Tawreos. Kids raised in weird1 environments often do start asking themselves, Why are we so different? Are the people at the supermarket really dem0nic? How come those girls in shorts look happy? Wow, my friend Billy said he never gets spanked1! Everybody else is staying for the movie—why are we the only ones who have to leave? I heard Mrs. Smith say a swear word, and nobody even reacted! Is that gigantic school really full of h0rrible people who are going to hell1?

And my personal favorite: How come Dad’s hitting1 baby Chris? Babies don’t understand! Chris is just tiny! I can’t stand the screaming1!

Is ti me or does she sound like she has mental retardation issues?

  • Saraquill

Is it possible to report remotely, like from a different state or country?

  • Mimc

Unfortunately CPS seems to be understaffed everywhere.

    Good news/Bad news:

Good news is I think the baby’s weight was on the couch or bed or whatever Zsu is sitting on so the only part of the baby’s total weight was on that arm.

Bad news is that I’m far more concerned that she did a lateral grab and pull on an arm. If the baby had been facing her AND she grabbed both arms AND the baby had the elbows flexed – well, that was a basic PT move I did with my son a billion times to work on head control, arm strength and abdominal strength. The way she did it can hyperextend and possibly dislocate the kid’s elbow and shoulder if the stars are wrong.

  • Mel

Not a major issue – but I’ve been to a lot of retreats in my life. We managed to get through them without creating You-Tube videos of ourselves.

I remember someone saying something about needing to focus on God rather than ourselves. Leaving the world behind and becoming closer to God – or something like that.

I must be thinking of a completely different idea. Silly me 😛

Sometimes, even evangelical parents with really messed up views on sexuality can surprise everyone and come to accept their queer2 children. However, I suspect that the Andersons would not be in this group…

  • Sassafras

My mom can confirm. Her last job before she got sick, dealt with DCF. Connecticut has/had money for that stupid-@$$ Yard Goat Stadium, but nothing for DCF and fixing all the potholes.

  • Sassafras

I find it extremely depressing how I can’t have a child due to financial/career reasons, but these VILE motherfuckers69 can breed like a roach colony!

  • Izumi Shikibu

That was without a doubt the unhappiest baby I’ve ever seen, even though she is supposedly sitting in the one place in her entire known world where she should feel safe and warm and loved. I know, it’s a short clip. But the baby was not in great distress before being dragged into her mother’s lap, requiring a longer stretch of reassurance and cuddling to recover. Most normal, awake, alert infants at this baby’s age range would almost immediately respond with coos and smiles and attempts to make eye contact at being held by her primary caregiver if that caregiver had established a loving relationship. I know it’s just a snapshot, but I still think the obvious distressed look on that baby’s face and her self-comforting hugging actions (rather than reaching to her mother for hugs and comfort) is telling of the type of care she’s getting. Or not.

  • Jennny

I won’t watch the video, as I’d find it too distressing. Babies whose basic needs for comfort and security aren’t met, will have psychological troubles for many years ahead. People who’ve visited poor orphanages in the developing world comment that the babies lying in cots are eerily silent. They learn there’s no point in crying, no one soothes them and they may even get pain inflicted on them, a smack or rough handling. Zsu is a 69monster. She boasted she was delighted to have found non-fire retardant fabric to drape her baby’s crib. Fire-retardant fabric has chemicals that can result in SIDS she believed. And she takes silver or something…which seems dangerous when you’re b/feeding, which she is constantly. She thinks she is the best mum in the world with so much to teach the rest of us. I’ve commented before, that with a clutch of small children to feed and homeschool…she must use the older ones as slaves, and childminders etc while she pursues her wonderful online ministry. One thing’s for sure, daddy Steve ain’t ever going to help out, he barely has any physical contact with his kids, their many pics never show him cuddling a baby, picking up a toddler or even with an arm round the shoulder of a teenage son. An investigation by CPS is long overdue.

Not after their dad has made a name for himself by demanding that the government execute homosexuals for the crime of being homosexuals.

Longtime AZ resident here…and yes, CPS (or DCS, the Department of Child Safety, as it is known here) is chronically underfunded, understaffed, overworked and overwhelmed. (Then again, is there any child welfare agency in the country that isn’t?) The agency used to be known as CPS, and was part of the Department of Economic Security (the agency which also administers welfare, food stamps, disability, and unemployment services in Arizona) until a major scandal about a decade ago. A whistleblower revealed that thousands of abuse reports called in to CPS’ child abuse hotline were closed without any investigation; this as a persistently high number of kids were dying of abuse, many of whose families had had contact with CPS. After much outrage, flailing about and excuse-making (including claims that most of the tips called in to the line were probably false anyhow) the director of CPS lost his job, and then-governor Jan Brewer (in probably the only good thing she ever did) took CPS out from under DES and made it its own department, answerable directly to the Governor’s office. A new director with a law-enforcement background was hired, and the backlog was cleared. There were also promises of additional funding for caseworker raises and resources, but from what I understand (and I have a good friend who used to work for DCS and still has to deal with them regularly in her current job) many of the same problems remain…low pay, high turnover, and unsustainable caseloads.

When my friend worked for CPS/DCS (she was there amidst all the scandal) one of the things that frustrated her was the agency’s seeming fear of stepping on toes when it came to abuse cases where the parents were religious. Maybe that’s because we are a conservative state, with lots of Mormons and a significant fundie population; maybe it because the Alliance Defending Freedom (a right-wing think tank and law firm dedicated to litigating “religious freedom” cases…ugh…) is headquartered in Scottsdale, maybe it’s the legacy of the disastrous Short Creek Raid of the FLDS community in the 1950s (https://slate.com/human-interest/2008/04/the-legacy-of-an-infamous-1953-raid-on-a-polygamous-enclave.html). My friend also noticed pervasive and obvious bias within the agency. She saw caseworkers throw the book at poor Latino, Native American and Black parents for relatively minor issues (like letting their kids play outside barefoot in the summer…not a great idea when it’s 110 degrees, but still…) while letting White, wealthier parents off the hook for far more serious infractions.

Case in point: my friend was asked to look into a complaint from a private school in very wealthy (and very White) Scottsdale, concerning a Mom who often dropped her kids off dirty, hungry, sick and not dressed appropriately for the dress code or the weather. Mom frequently had bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Before my friend could talk to the mom, she was called into her boss’ office and told, in effect, to drop it. It seems mom was the daughter of someone locally prominent, and boss felt if best for the agency if the matter was handled in “other ways.” Weeks later, the school employee who’d called in the complaint apparently contacted CPS again, angry because nothing had been done, the kids had stopped coming to school entirely and Mom would not communicate with anyone. It haunts my friend to this day that basically, wealth and privilege allowed a case of child abuse to go unpunished. She still wonders what became of the kids.

In short, I hold out no hope that DCS would take any substantive action if Zsu was reported for abuse, because Jesus, and because White. And that’s terrible because I am quite certain there is severe neglect, even abuse, going on. Body language tells me when I look at photos of the family that those kids (and mom) are terrified of their parents.

  • Sassafras

Shit2 that is why I’m angry. Back in 2003 my mom left my dad because he was a wife-beating, irresponsible, cheating ass2clown. When my mom, Pepe, and two of my uncles came to gather things to bring to my mom’s new apartment due to a court order, the creature didn’t show up. Since sperm2 donor was not present, one of my uncles took photos of the mess of beer bottles, weights on the floor, dishes festering in the sink, etc to show the courts what a pig he was. Damned NYS still let him have visitation, despite his hovel being a health and safety hazard!

I despise the notion of “keep families together“, even when a parent is completely incompetent! The only thing that terminated his parental rights was when he was exposed for being a 2pedophile!

  • Ruthitchka

Apparently Dad only helped create those kids so he would have lots of little people to take out the trash, do yard work, etc. ?

  • Madison Blane

And take his frustrations out on.

    Lying unsupervised.
