That old saying β€˜a fool and his money are soon parted’ fits today’s news.

Sorry we’re not doing a chapter from Debi Pearl’s book today. Too much else is happening that should be discussed first instead of that hideous book. We only have two more chapters and were done. Last week’s chapter is here.

Tony Spell, that Louisiana bad boy pastor from Central who is refusing to not hold church, and have been attempting to back one of the church buses over a protester is back in the news. Back a few weeks ago when we were all waiting for our stimulus checks from the federal government he had the novel idea to beg/plead/demand that his followers donate their checks to him and other ministries.

This is money that was meant for people to pay bills, buy food and medicines. Particularly those people living paycheck to paycheck who are laid off from their jobs. It’s only $1,200 dollars each, not a determinant amount that’s going to keep anyone out of the poor house. An amount to help out. Much needed.

I laughed to hear Steve Mnuchin (Treasury Secretary) and Jared Kushner (does he have a real role beyond being son in law?) both state that the money should last the average American about six weeks. The fuzzy math skills of a dumb billionaire who’s never paid a bill, or bought a loaf of bread on his own.

Here’s what I am pretty sure neither Mnuchin or Kushner dreamed it would be used for. To fund criminal scofflaw preachers who are into martyrbating and self aggrandizing.

This kind of blows my mind that anyone would do that in the Central area or the Greater Baton Rouge area. Central isn’t exactly brimming with millionaires. It’s a lot of blue collar types living in cottages and mobile homes. Nor is Baton Rouge. I’ve described Baton Rouge in comparison to New Orleans as the little uptight poor Baptist sister to the older, more experienced, drunken Voodoo queen. Let the good times roll!

There’s nothing wrong with donating the money if you don’t need it. In fact I know people who have donated theirs to local food banks and other charities bearing the brunt of the shut down.

Earlier in the week Spell’s mother, Magi SpellΒ  posted the phone number to the Central Police Dept. on Facebook and urged everyone to call to protest the arrest and home confinement of Spell. The only thing that happened was a large posse of the clueless put the all of the citizens of Central in grave danger. Central, like I have stated before, is a tiny place, by tying up the phone lines into the police dept. Spell’s supporters also rendered all of calls for police help, medical emergencies and other calls useless. No one could get through. Lucky no one died.

Again how very Jesus like of them. People literally could have died and these self-involved goat rodeo clowns decided their protest was more important that the lives of others.

TMZ is claiming that at least 205 different people gave some or all of their stimulus check to Tony Spell of the Life Tabernacle church. That sum could be anywhere from $24,6oo bucks based upon a ten percent tithe to if everyone gave every penny $246,000. Wide range, but still a heck of a lot of money. That would buy a pile of Pelotons, that thing that Ken Alexander was saying most Americans would blow the money on.

Spell plans on holding church again tomorrow at Life Tabernacle in Central and preaching, in direct violation of the order to stay home and his ankle monitor. Too bad those ankle monitors don’t also act as shock collars for dogs and don’t zap the offender when he is somewhere he has no business being, like church.

Today the members of his church and others plan a protest outside of the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Spell has said he will not be there because he does not want to give the feds a reason to pick him up. He’s overestimating the importance of himself, it would not be the feds arresting and hauling him to the hoosecow, it would be the Baton Rouge police department.

On the good news front it appears last weekend he had a small drop in the bucket amount of church goers compared to previous weeks. I guess they’re starting to realize that this virus is a real threat to everyone.
