Love Song

Here is one of my poems. It is appropriate for Valentine’s Day I think.

Love Song

If this world should end with a small crash
in the universe, who would take notice?
To the stars it would be just a distant
handclap. For the vast space of darkness
it would only mean more sacred silence.

Once the echo was gone, a bit of ash
perhaps would float as a remnant past a star,
holding in itself all the Egyptian
cities, a Chinese vase, and all that we are;
for present there would be this small kitchen
where you, as you stand, push back your hair
and with a small hand reach into the air.

Will anyone see us? Will they try
to save us? Will they know who we were?
