WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Maliha, alone and abandoned, the unfolding of her history, and the Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor who helps this abused woman find hope.

T

he clamor of bargaining could be heard above the bustling crowds. Stalls displayed beautiful fabrics of bright colors and patterns, while the aroma of food wafted in the air. In the midst of all this excitement, a mysterious woman strolled aimlessly down the street of the bazaar.

The woman was a stranger to the village. Her pitiful condition quickly became the dialogue of the bazaar. “Who is she, and where did she come from?” the villagers and venders alike whispered among themselves. No one knew. Some said she was mentally insane and did their best to avoid her. Others had compassion and tossed a few coins her way. She tried to tell them her story, but only a few listened, and no one tried to help her.

GFA founded by Dr. K. P. Yohannan: Discussing Maliha, alone and abandoned, the unfolding of her history, and the Gospel for Asia pastor's help this abused woman find hope.
Maliha (not pictured) wandered around the bazaar. She didn’t know where she was, and some people whispered about her. She was a stranger, lost, disheartened and alone.

She Needed a Hand to Hold

The woman established a spot near the roadside and under a tree. There, she silently wept and slept. She had with her all her belongings: a small bundle of clothes. During the day she begged, and when the night sky descended, she was alone. But the Lord knew her story and sent His servants to help rescue this precious woman He created.

Our pastor Chhiring and his wife, Gunita, had caught word about the stranger at the bazaar, and they wanted to see how they could help her. They found the woman with dirty clothing and a troubled face begging in front of a tea shop.

Pastor Chhiring gently talked to her and asked if she needed anything. She looked at him but said nothing. Then Gunita placed her hand in the woman’s, a small expression of love, and the woman allowed them to lead the way to their home.

Stranger Reveals Her Story

Pastor Chhiring told the woman she could stay with them as one of their own family members. He encouraged his wife and other believers not to pressure the woman to talk, but only help her feel comfortable. She would talk when she was ready. In the safety of Pastor Chhiring and Gunita’s home, trust grew in the woman’s heart. The next day she confided in Gunita and told her story.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Maliha eloped with a man she thought loved her and would give her a happy life. But one day all this changed, and he would beat her for no apparent reason.
Maliha (pictured) eloped with a man she thought loved her and would give her a happy life. But one day all this changed, and he would beat her for no apparent reason.

Her name was Maliha, and she came from a distant village. As she matured, many people in her village noticed her beauty and tried to tempt her to run away with them. For a year, she resisted, but a young man eventually lured Maliha after he declared his love for her and promised he would give her a happy life and never leave her. Maliha eloped with this man and moved away from her widowed mother.

After Maliha had two young children, she noticed her husband started to change. He became violent, physically and verbally abusing Maliha. Maliha’s mother, siblings and even her neighbors asked her to make a stand against her husband’s violence, but they never dared face him themselves.

Exposing Her Husband’s Secret

These sudden changes left Maliha with many questions. She didn’t know why her husband seemed to suddenly hate her when he had promised to love her before.

Then she discovered the secret he was hiding: Maliha’s husband had been unfaithful to her.

When Maliha gathered the courage to ask him about it, he beat her and yelled at her and the children. He announced his intention of bringing another woman into the house. Shocked and hurt, Maliha and the children cried loudly. The neighbors heard the awful commotion and ran to their house. They saw poor Maliha’s swollen face and blood streaming down her head from her husband’s beating. When her husband saw a crowd forming, he declared with a booming voice that his wife had gone mad.

A week later, Maliha’s husband said he would take her to the doctor, but instead he dumped her in a village she didn’t know, in a place where she could never find her way back. Deserted, lost and wounded in body and heart, Maliha found herself alone in the bazaar—until she met Gunita and Pastor Chhiring.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Maliha found love and rescue when Pastor Chhiring and his wife, Gunita, welcomed her into their home as one of the family. Now, Maliha has hope in Jesus, and He is healing her past.
Maliha found love and rescue when Pastor Chhiring and his wife, Gunita (pictured), welcomed her into their home as one of the family. Now, Maliha has hope in Jesus, and He is healing her past.

Church Welcomes Abused Woman

Gunita’s heart welled with deep love and compassion for Maliha as she listened to the broken woman share her story. She relayed the story to her husband, and he prayed and shared with his congregation. The entire church listened when he asked them to welcome Maliha into their hearts as one of their own sisters. Together as a church, they all prayed fervently for her and received her with love. Maliha grew under the care of her church family as they displayed Christ’s kindness toward her.

Although she was unable to return to her family, Maliha now has learned to pour out her heart to Jesus. She knows He loves her and desires her to call upon Him. She has a new life in Christ and a heavenly Husband who cares deeply for her and heals her wounded past.

Whenever her heart aches for her children and husband, she is reminded by Pastor Chhiring that her life is secure in Jesus’ hands. The woman who was once beaten, abused and abandoned now has a family and has been found and held by Jesus!

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing 71-year-old widow Bhranti, her struggle against the danger of malaria, and Christmas gift distribution of Gospel for Asia provides defense against malaria through mosquito nets.

A

n old, tattered net is all that separated 71-year-old Bhranti from the mosquitoes buzzing outside her home. Any one of those pesky insects potentially carried a historically feared disease: malaria.

Danger All Around

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing 71-year-old widow Bhranti, the danger of malaria, and mosquito nets gift distribution of Gospel for Asia providing defense against malaria.
Bhranti, pictured here, no longer has to worry about mosquitoes biting her in the night thanks to the new net she received.

Malaria killed more than 400,000 people worldwide in 2018. The World Health Organization considers mosquito nets among the most important measures taken to combat malaria. Insecticide-treated mosquito nets have helped lower the number of deaths in recent years, and they are the only protection millions of people in Asia have against the harmful disease.

But Bhranti did not have a good net.

Bhranti’s husband passed away more than 10 years ago. All four of her daughters married, leaving the widow by herself. Every night, the ragged net Bhranti used as protection against mosquitoes went over her bed. The older widow desperately needed a new net, but she simply did not possess the money to purchase one.

Blessed with a New Net

Our Pastor Sutak happened to be out ministering one day when he met Bhranti. After conversing with the pastor for a few minutes, Bhranti shared her situation with him. Hearing the widow’s story and seeing her tattered net, Pastor Sutak knew something needed to be done. Before he left Pastor Sutak encouraged Bhranti from God’s Word, saying her needs would be provided for.

By the grace of God, the local church held a Christmas gift distribution in Bhranti’s village later that year. There, the widow was presented with a brand-new mosquito net.

“I am so grateful to the [Gospel for Asia workers] for their love and care and for providing a mosquito net,” Bhranti says. “Now I do not need to worry about buying a mosquito net as I have received a new one.”

Bhranti’s previous fear of contracting malaria is gone, thanks to her new net.

Hear other amazing stories of struggling families in Asia that were aided in their defense against mosquitoes.

One simple way to fight mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, is to consider giving a needy family a simple Mosquito Net. Most households need several nets to protect everyone in the family. Help save them from sickening agony or death from malaria.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Kripal and his family, the deep poverty, illness, grief and despair, and the help and hope brought by Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor and the gift of goats through Gospel for Asia’s Gift Catalog.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing a family in deep poverty, illness, & despair, and the hope brought by Gospel for Asia pastor & Gospel for Asia’s Gift Catalog.

Water dripped through the roof made of tiles and grass and landed in puddles around four children and the frail body of Kripal’s wife, Bani. A strange sickness held her life in its grip and kept her from eating, slowly stealing her strength until she couldn’t even walk properly. Doctors and those who practiced traditional healing ceremonies failed to cure Bani, but that didn’t stop them from demanding payment.

In addition to Bani’s health problems, the family was distressed by another faceless trouble: During the night, they heard strange noises on their roof. It worried them and interrupted their sleep.

Gradually, Kripal’s family slipped into poverty, grief and despair.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Unable to find a cure for her strange illness, Bani (pictured) grew very weak, plunging her family into poverty as they struggled to find a cure.
Unable to find a cure for her strange illness, Bani (pictured) grew very weak, plunging her family into poverty as they struggled to find a cure.

Hope Comes by Word of Mouth

Kripal’s grief and problems were evident, and a family of believers in his village watched his struggles. They sympathized with his poverty and sorrowful plight, and they shared his story with their pastor, Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Taranga, and asked him to visit Kripal.

Without delay, Pastor Taranga and a group of believers visited Kripal and Bani. They prayed earnestly for Bani’s healing and asked the Lord to deliver the family from the distress that burdened their hearts. They also prayed for a way for Kripal to climb out of the deep poverty his family had fallen into because of Bani’s health issues.

As Pastor Taranga and the believers continued visiting Kripal’s family and praying for them, the Lord worked His miracles in Kripal’s and Bani’s lives. Bani gradually gained back her strength and found freedom from her mysterious illness, and the unusual noises her family heard around their home vanished, so they finally enjoyed peaceful sleep again.

Touched by the mercy and love they experienced, they desired to know Jesus and be known by Him.

Kripal and Bani realized that, while all their own efforts to find healing and peace brought no relief, Jesus graciously answered the simple prayers of His children on their behalf. Touched by the mercy and love they experienced, they desired to know Jesus and be known by Him.

A Helping Hand for Struggling Family

Kripal’s family faithfully gathered with Pastor Taranga’s congregation for times of worship and fellowship, and they grew together in their knowledge of God. With good health and new peace in their hearts, their lives were much improved. However, their financial situation continued to trouble them.

The effects of Bani’s sickness and their search for treatment had left them very poor, and though she was healthy now, they still couldn’t make ends meet. Their roof leaked, their children needed clothing and school supplies, and providing food for a family of six was no small task.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Gospel for Asia’s Gift Catalog enables pastors in Asia to bless families with income-generating gifts. Kripal received two goats at a gift distribution, which changed his life significantly.
Gospel for Asia’s Gift Catalog enables pastors in Asia to bless families with income-generating gifts. Kripal received two goats at a gift distribution, which changed his life significantly.

But God was with Kripal and Bani, and He saw their struggles. Faithful to care for His children, God prompted believers to help Kripal’s pastor give families income-generating gifts, the kinds found in Gospel for Asia’s Gift Catalog.

Soon, Kripal and 200 other people eagerly gathered to receive gifts that carried the potential to completely change their lives. Dozens of families walked up to receive cows or sewing machines—their new sources of income and hope—and when Kripal’s name was called, a pair of goats stood ready to meet their new owner.

Goats Multiply, Blessing Increases

Kripal quickly embraced his new livelihood as a goatherd and faithfully cared for his precious gift. His area was well suited for raising goats, and the gift that started out as two quickly multiplied. Within one year, Kripal had 12 bouncy goats under his care!

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Kripal’s family (pictured) carefully raised their goats, enabling Kripal to provide food, clothing and education for his children, as well as a tin roof for their home.
Kripal’s family (pictured) carefully raised their goats, enabling Kripal to provide food, clothing and education for his children, as well as a tin roof for their home.

Today, Kripal’s goats have enabled him to pay his children’s school fees, and whenever his family needs rice, potatoes or vegetables, Bani has enough money to go to the market. Kripal even sold six goats to purchase tin sheets for his roof, so now their house keeps them dry and warm, even during the rainy season.

Kripal and Bani are full of joy and gratitude to the One who is near to them each day. They praise God for not only extending His healing hand toward them, but for also offering them a helping hand and enabling them to care for their family.

Tell People of God’s Love

Only a few years ago, Kripal’s home was filled with anxiousness, sickness, poverty and despair, but Christ led his family into a new life filled with hope and peace through a personal relationship with their Healer.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: God is using these goats to bring Kripal and Bani out of poverty and remind them of His continual presence.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Romila and her husband Taraswin, the crippling poverty, and the instrument God used to show them His love through Gospel for Asia Christmas gifts distribution program of a sewing machine.

It had been Romila’s hope to help her husband. She had great expectation of increasing their daily income, thinking she had found the tool to lift them out of poverty. She wrestled with her very meager education, which prohibited her from finding good work, and now Romila had a chance do something.

She started tailoring class, but once Romila graduated, her plans appeared to be merely an intangible dream. The six months of tailoring classes now looked like hours spent in vain. For all her effort, she and her hard-working husband couldn’t afford a sewing machine.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Romila, the poverty, & the instrument God used to show His love: Gospel for Asia Christmas gifts distribution program of a sewing machine
Romila had spent six months learning how to sew clothes. But she faced a huge obstacle after her training: Her husband couldn’t afford to buy her a sewing machine.

A Downward Spiral

A plumber by trade, Romila’s husband, Taraswin, worked faithfully to provide for his wife and little baby girl. However, no matter how hard he tried, he struggled to find work. Day by day they were sinking financially. A friend directed Taraswin to a job opportunity in another village. Believing this would help change things, they moved to start afresh.

But work was inconsistent, and this new job soon proved to be of no help to their financial state. They prayed earnestly to their traditional gods and goddesses and faithfully practiced rituals, but their situation only worsened.

As monthly rent drained their income, things did not look bright. However, unknown to Romila and Taraswin, God saw their struggles.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Blessed with a sewing machine
Like this woman, Romila has been blessed with the hope of a better income through a sewing machine, a gift found in Gospel for Asia’s Christmas Gift Catalog.

A Need Not Unseen

One day, they were chatting with their neighbor, and he introduced Taraswin and Romila to his friend, a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor named Rochan. As Pastor Rochan struck up a conversation with the couple, they began to open up.

“After coming to this place, I am not getting any proper work, and I am struggling to take care of my wife and child,” Taraswin explained.

Pastor Rochan encouraged Taraswin and Romila in the Lord. He prayed and asked God to open doors for them to have a better income. As Pastor Rochan walked away, he felt compelled to do everything he could to help this family.

Three weeks later, he invited Taraswin and Romila to the church’s Christmas gift distribution program. Romila could hardly believe her eyes when she received her sewing machine.

“I was really longing for a machine,” Romila recalls. “I have no words to express my feelings and thanks to the church.”
Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: A sewing machine relieves a family's struggle
Romila, Taraswin and their little daughter (pictured) now have true hope and joy. They are no longer struggling to get by, day by day.

A Dream Fulfilled Through Gospel for Asia Christmas Gifts

Now Romila can help provide for her family by sewing clothes from her home. The hopelessness which hung over Romila and Taraswin lifted, as they now can easily pay for their rent with plenty left over for additional expenses. Through this timely help, Romila and Taraswin saw the love of Jesus in their lives.

“This gift not only helps me to earn a daily income, but also it brought us close to the Living God,” says Romila.

Now Romila’s dream is being fulfilled, and her family is being lifted out of poverty. God hand-tailored every detail of their lives and wove a beautiful blessing of a sewing machine and the lasting knowledge of His undeniable love into Ramila’s and Taraswin lives.

One Stitch at a Time

Men and women, such as Romila and Taraswin, are blessed to receive tools like sewing machines that alter their income. Not only do these gifts create an avenue of hope in their lives, but they are tangible representations of Christ’s love. Consider giving a sewing machine. You can help change a life now and on into eternity!

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World and affiliates like Gospel for Asia Canada) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing the harsh life of those living in tea estates, and the Gospel for Asia-supported pastor who show in big and small ways how much Jesus loves them.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing the harsh life of those living in tea estates, and the Gospel for Asia-supported pastor who show in many ways how much Jesus loves them.

“I was born and brought up in a tea estate. I am a son of a tea garden laborer, and I myself was a laborer once. Before even coming to the Lord, I have seen the struggles of the life of tea garden people.” —Pastor Ekanpreet

Rows and rows of lush green shrubs stretch into the horizon. Women dot the scenery, plucking tea leaves and stuffing what they’ve collected into bags they carry on their heads. Some women smile, enjoying the slivers of conversation they have with each other. Others keep their focus on their job, plucking and stuffing, so their families will have enough income to make it through the day.

For as much natural beauty that surrounds the tea estate, the lives of these laborers are far from beautiful.

Parents can’t afford to buy their children clothing.

“All I can do is just tell [my children], ‘This time I am not able to buy your clothes. Maybe next coming Christmas, I will buy some dress,’” says Mudit, father of six.

Wives are sent away to find work.

“I am barely able to buy food for my children. That was one of the reasons why I had to send my wife to [the city],” says Bhavin, father of three. “As a domestic help she has gone there so she can send us some money, and at least we can maintain the family.”

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Life on a tea estate

People have no restroom facilities.

“We used to go out in the open in the tea garden. That is the practice here,” says Iniyavan, a tea garden laborer. “There is lots of inconvenience when you have ladies at home, when you have children at home. For them, going to the toilet in the open, it’s not very good . . .”

Fathers suddenly vanish when the burden of caring for the family becomes too much.

“I have seen . . . the father, the head of the family, all of a sudden left the home and gone elsewhere,” says Pastor Ekanpreet, a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor serving in the area. “Once the man leaves the home, he never returns or nobody hears anything about that man.”

Young boys and girls grow up thinking drugs, alcohol and promiscuity are a normal way of life.

“People here tend to live a morally loose type of life,” Ekanpreet says. “They do not think much about ethical values or moral values in their lives.”

“I lived a very worldly life,” he says. “I used to drink. I used to smoke. I did every worldly thing that a person who doesn’t know the Lord does. … I even told my wife, ‘Look, now we have two children. The money that I make from labor work, from the tea garden, is not sufficient. You sell wine and drinks at home so we can make a better living.’”

But then Ekanpreet came to know Jesus. After nearly dying from a sickness, Ekanpreet devoted his life to serving the Lord, who healed him. He left the tea estate to pursue life in ministry, but the tea-estate life was never far from his mind.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: A missionary to a tea estate

“I wanted to continue to work among the tea estate,” he says. “I am deeply attached and associated emotionally with those living in tea gardens.”

After graduating from Bible college, Ekanpreet returned with a yearning to help the people he knew were living empty, hand-to-mouth existences—like he once was. But it took patience and enduring a tremendous amount of opposition to establish the work.

Fighting the Past

Pastor Ekanpreet and other missionaries were up against a colonial-era mentality among the tea estate laborers, who thought Christians were only out to make money and turn them into slaves.

“That was the misunderstanding the people had about the work we were doing,” Ekanpreet says. “But when we understood that, our first goal . . . was to bring change in the hearts and minds of the people who were thinking like that.”

Pastor Ekanpreet and other Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers searched for ways, even using their own resources and finances, to show the tea garden laborers God’s love by caring for their needs.

“If anybody was not able to send their children to school, we helped them. If anybody was not able to buy medicine for their sickness, . . . we started to help those people,” Ekanpreet says.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: A faithful national missionary

Through these practical expressions of Christ’s love, the people who once opposed Ekanpreet’s ministry began to soften their hearts.

“There is something strange, new in these Christians,” they said. “They are not here to make anybody slaves . . . but their purpose is to help the poor and the needy, which we are not able to do.”

“There is something strange, new in these Christians. . . their purpose is to help the poor and the needy, which we are not able to do.”

Blazing Forward

Pastor Ekanpreet knew the people living in the tea estate had many needs, many struggles. He saw their poverty, but he also understood their desire to thrive. He knew they needed lasting help, help that would sustain them.

So he set up Christmas gift distributions to give families income-generating gifts like barnyard animals, sewing machines, rickshaws and other items to alleviate their financial burdens.

People also received other gifts that would help their health and protect their dignity, gifts like toilets and mosquito nets. Seven Jesus Wells were also installed throughout the tea estate, allowing anyone access to clean, safe water.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Blessings on a tea estate

A Bridge of Hope center opened, giving kids, some of whom sold alcohol or were beggars, a chance for a better life. It also relieved some of the pressure parents felt to properly provide for their children, while at the same time imparting good morals to the students.

For 15 years, Pastor Ekanpreet and other Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers have served the more than 10,000 people living in the tea estate and surrounding areas, showing them in big and small ways how much Jesus loves them. Ekanpreet has seen the mindset of people change, and entire communities have been uplifted in society, but there is still much work to be done and more people who need to find the Hope worth living for.

“For the poor will never cease from the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and your needy, in your land.’” —Deuteronomy 15:11

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Anesh & family, the critical problem of not having a toilet, & the Gospel for Asia gift of a toilet, & the priceless gift of restored dignity

Anesh and his family rubbed the sleepiness from their eyes as they assembled to make their morning trek into a thick, green forest. Tall trees surrounded them with hopeful privacy, but still, there was no telling what they would encounter that morning. Wild animals and lurking men made the daily morning journey a dreaded one, especially for women. But they had to relieve themselves, and the outdoors was their only option.

Toiling Without a Toilet

Anesh gathered his family around him. The family, who had just that morning made the embarrassing trek, joined together to do something about it: pray. They petitioned the Lord for a much-needed but impossible item—a toilet.

Anesh worked hard to bring in daily resources for his family. He had the responsibility of providing for six family members, and though he toiled, he could never make enough to build a toilet.

Anesh and his family loved Jesus, and they served faithfully in the church, growing strong in the love of the Lord. Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Chamanlal shepherded them and also saw their needs. He encouraged Anesh and his family to pray in faith, believing God would answer their call for help.

Without access to their own toilet, the only option is to find a place outside.
Approximately 2.3 billion people around the world do not have a decent toilet. That’s one out of every three people.
Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Pastor Chamanlal and his family
This is Pastor Chamanlal and his family. With the love of the Lord in his heart, he is committed to serving God by helping meet the needs of people around him. He understood the plight of Anesh and his family and their desperate need for a proper toilet.

A Critical but Common Problem

The need for proper toilets around the world and in Asia alone is staggering. According to WaterAid, approximately 2.3 million people around the world do not have a decent toilet. That’s one out of every three people. A startling statistic—one that Anesh and his family were a part of.

“During rainy season,” Anesh’s wife, Panita, said, “it was difficult to go to an open area for nature’s call. Being a woman, it is humiliating to do business in a public area. Sometimes, when people pass through, I would stand and felt so sad.”

A Need Not Unseen

But God was not distant from this family’s prayers. He knew their need well and worked through Pastor Chamanlal—and believers around the world—to answer those prayers.

As Pastor Chamanlal brought this family’s need to his leaders, he got permission and resources to build a toilet for the family through a Christmas gift distribution program.

Soon, instead of trees, solid cement walls would surround people; instead of bare ground, a toilet was installed. After the finishing touches of blue paint were complete, the newly constructed facility was handed over to Anesh and his family, right in his backyard!

This was a joyous day. Not only were they encouraged to witness God answering their prayers but after many long years, they also finally had a sanitation facility on their own property. They were very thankful to God, as well as to the church, for providing them this facility. Now, Anesh and his loved ones do not have to get up early in the morning, and they don’t have to fear wild animals.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Anesh and his family were so happy and blessed to receive the answer to their prayers: a toilet on their own premises.
Anesh and his family were so happy and blessed to receive the answer to their prayers: a toilet on their own premises.

A Toilet Changes a Village

After the construction of Anesh’s toilet, the villagers asked Pastor Chamanlal to build one for them too. Anesh and his family excitedly told the villagers how the church has concern for the people. The community grew positive toward the social services of the church and appreciative of Pastor Chamanlal. Some villagers even started attending prayer meetings.

With much joy and thankfulness to God, Anesh said, “I am grateful to God and to the church for their concern toward us. I do daily work, and I could not build a sanitation [facility] for my family. But thank God for the help from the church.”

Anesh’s mother, Onella, was grateful too.

“The toilet is safe and secure for the females,” she said. “I have been using the open area for many years, and I wished a lot to have our own by seeing others. But due to the lack of money, we could not make it. But I thank God and the church for their concern and the help.”

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Outdoor toilet
Building a toilet for a community or a family can spare lives from disease, provide protection from the elements and wild animals, and give dignity to those who have never had it before.

It’s That Simple

A simple useful gift like a toilet can change the lifestyle of an entire family and even an entire village. Because someone gave, Anesh’s family was blessed with something they otherwise would probably never have been be able to obtain on their own.

This year, for World Toilet Day on November 19, you can make a difference in the lives of precious people in Asia with the practical gift of a toilet, which will give many the priceless gift of restored dignity.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Kalapi, the sickness and poverty, and the healing and provision through the ministry of national missionaries and the distribution of a Gospel for Asia (GFA) gift of compassion.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Kalapi, the sickness and poverty, and the healing and provision through the ministry of national missionaries and the distribution of a Gospel for Asia gift of compassion.

A mysterious illness caused Kalapi’s body to shake uncontrollably. For two years, she had difficulties walking, eating and drinking. Eventually, she struggled even to speak. Her family sought aid but found none—until they heard about a local Christian congregation. Kalapi went to the church, which is led by Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Boro Rai, and received prayer. It was there that she finally found deliverance, thanks to Jesus.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: When Pastor Boro visited Kalapi and Mudit, he noticed the bareness of their home and the thin, weak appearance of their children.
When Pastor Boro visited Kalapi and Mudit, he noticed the bareness of their home and the thin, weak appearance of their children.

Pastor Boro began visiting Kalapi and her husband, Mudit, to tell them more about the God who healed her and to encourage them with promises from Scripture. During his visits, Pastor Boro noticed the bareness of their home, which contained only a few household items. But even more haunting was the thin, weak appearance of Kalapi’s children. Kalapi and Mudit could afford to feed them flatbread made of cornmeal, but that was about it. The lack of nutrition left the children vulnerable to frequent illnesses, and Kalapi and Mudit didn’t have the money to buy medicine for them.

Pastor Boro couldn’t ignore the images he had seen of the near-empty home and the frail bodies of the children. Wanting to help, he spoke with his leaders and told them about the family’s need.

Family Receives Life-Changing Gift

Pastor Boro and his leaders decided to help meet the family’s basic needs by giving Kalapi and Mudit a gift. Pastor Boro told Kalapi the good news that the church was going to help her family, and he invited her to a Christmas gift distribution.

Kalapi arrived on the appointed day. At the event, 20 pairs of goats, 24 cows, 25 water buffalo and several other useful items waited for Kalapi and other struggling families. Each gift, from a pair of tin sheets to a water buffalo, represented a helping hand from the Lord, who wanted these families to thrive.

That day, Kalapi went home with a cow and a calf. With joy in her eyes, she thanked those who had made it possible for her to receive the gift.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Pastor Boro told his leaders about his concerns for Kalapi’s family. Then, during a Christmas gift distribution, Kalapi received a cow and a calf!

Cow Strengthens Children’s Bodies, Fills Woman’s Heart with Faith

Now, because God put it on the church’s heart to give Kalapi a cow and calf, her family is enjoying a stability they desperately needed. The cow provides Kalapi’s children with milk, a source of protein that has helped their bodies grow stronger. In addition, Kalapi and Mudit have been able to use the cow’s dung to fertilize their crops, and when the calf grows up, they plan to use it to plow their fields.

These Christmas gifts not only helped the family’s financial condition, but they also showed Kalapi how much God and His children care for her family. Seeing God’s compassion on her family, Kalapi’s faith grew. She prays to Jesus to meet her family’s needs, trusting in Him to provide.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: God has used the gift of a cow to sustain Kalapi’s family. Kalapi’s children have grown stronger and healthier by drinking the cow’s milk.

WILLS POINT, TX – Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. YohannanDiscussing Dhansukh, poverty threatening his family, his children’s education, health, & the life-sustaining gifts through the Gospel for Asia Christmas Gift Catalog.

His produce business was crumbling, and sadness and anxiety filled his heart. Hardly anyone was buying the vegetables Dhansukh offered. With so few customers, much of his produce rotted in his stall. Then Vismay showed up.

Slow Business Threatens Children’s Education, Health

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan - Gospel for Asia Christmas Gift Catalog: Discussing Dhansukh, poverty threatening his family, his children's education, health, & the life-sustaining gifts, through the Gospel for Asia Christmas Gift Catalog.
Because of his difficulty walking, Dhansukh made a living by selling vegetables.

Daily life was a struggle for Dhansukh and his family. Because Dhansukh had difficulty walking, he couldn’t work as a daily wage laborer, which is a common job for many people in Asia. Instead, Dhansukh provided for his family by selling vegetables.

But after some time, Dhansukh’s business began running into the ground. Fewer people made purchases, and the vegetables that remained started to rot. Dhansukh tried all he could to save money and make up for the lack. He took his children out of the private school they were attending and sent them to a public school instead. He asked his brothers and his sister for hand-me-downs for his children.

But even as he cut down on expenses left and right, eventually the vegetable-seller could no longer afford to buy fresh vegetables to feed his family. The meals they would eat in one day became fewer and fewer. When they did eat food, it sometimes consisted only of rice with salt. Dhansukh didn’t know what to do.

In the middle of the family’s crisis, Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported pastor Vismay came to buy vegetables one day. Dhansukh decided to see if the Christians’ God could help.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: When Dhansukh’s business started slowing down, his family sank into a financial crisis. Not knowing what else to do, Dhansukh told one of his customers, Pastor Vismay, about his troubles and asked for prayer.
When Dhansukh’s business started slowing down, his family sank into a financial crisis. Not knowing what else to do, Dhansukh told one of his customers, Pastor Vismay, about his troubles and asked for prayer.

Gift Proclaims God’s Love, Provision

Pastor Vismay and Dhansukh had developed a friendly acquaintance already, as the pastor would buy vegetables from Dhansukh’s shop. They had talked before, and Pastor Vismay had spoken of Jesus, but this time Dhansukh opened up to Pastor Vismay on a new level. He told Pastor Vismay about his business troubles and asked him to pray for him. As Pastor Vismay prayed fervently for Dhansukh, Dhansukh joined in agreement, believing Jesus could change his circumstances.

Pastor Vismay kept Dhansukh’s prayer request in mind, and God eventually provided an opportunity for him to help Dhansukh’s family practically through a Christmas gift distribution.

Throughout the year, Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported workers in Asia get to distribute life-sustaining gifts, from sewing machines to mosquito nets to livestock, provided for by brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. During the gift distribution in his community, Pastor Vismay was able to give Dhansukh two female goats, much to Dhansukh’s delight.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: When Dhansukh received two female goats through a Christmas gift distribution, God filled his heart with faith that Jesus loved him. Dhansukh cared for the goats, and soon they gave birth to three kids.
When Dhansukh received two female goats through a Christmas gift distribution, God filled his heart with faith that Jesus loved him. Dhansukh cared for the goats, and soon they gave birth to three kids.

These gifts impacted Dhansukh in a special way: As he witnessed firsthand the Lord’s power to answer prayers, he realized God loved him and Jesus’ followers cared about him.

Dhansukh took the pair of goats home and diligently cared for them, and as his faith strengthened through the loving provision of Christ, he saw the Lord continue to bless him through the two goats: After several months, the goats gave birth, providing Dhansukh with three more goats! Full of gratitude, Dhansukh gave one goat to the church as an offering to the Lord.

Through the Gospel for Asia Christmas Gift Catalog: Gifts That Keep Giving

The Lord’s provision and Dhansukh’s strengthened faith didn’t shelter Dhansukh’s family from tragedy, however. One day, as Dhansukh took his goats to a field, dogs attacked them, and three of the goats died. But by the Lord’s grace, the gift of a goat keeps on giving. Dhansukh’s one remaining goat is now pregnant, so Dhansukh and his family have hope of future provision through her and the kids she will give birth to. What’s more important, Dhansukh’s family is continuing to learn about the eternal hope in Christ as they worship Him among the believers at a local church.

Gospel for Asia (GFA World) founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Even though three of Dhansukh’s goats were killed by dogs, he and his family have hope of future provision because his remaining goat is pregnant! By God’s grace, gifts like goats can keep on giving.

Savitha leaned back against the wall, trying to avoid the puddle of water in the room and ignore the heavy wind outside. It battered her small home, and rain steadily fell inside.

Drip, drip, drip . . .

The wind from the storm continued to rustle the thatched roof and threatened to take what little remained of it. Savitha moved closer to the wall. The memories of her husband’s time in the hospital flashed before her with each plunk of water. If only she did not have to live in this misery any longer.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Savitha, a widow, gripped by poverty and God's example of love and care through Gospel for Asia tin sheets.

Struggles Come

Just 10 years ago, life was not so difficult. Savitha’s husband labored vigorously on their farmland and provided for their needs well.

Then Savitha’s husband complained of intense stomach pains. Their daily routine was shaken as she had to take him to several hospitals. He couldn’t eat any food, and he could no longer work. They sold their land to pay for the bills, but it was not sufficient for additional hospital visits; they needed a loan. Finally the diagnosis came: Her husband had a tumor. Nothing could be done.

She remained with her husband in the hospital.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing love and care through Gospel for Asia tin sheets.Drip, drip, drip . . .

Her husband’s life had faded away.

And loneliness gushed into Savitha’s heart.

Left to a Broken Home

Savitha returned to an empty house, and began working hard in nearby sugar cane fields to meet her needs. One day, only to add to her despair, a storm came through her village and pulled apart her roof. It left gaping holes leaving her exposed to the elements. Her struggles mounted as a minor cooking fire ruined another portion of her thatched roof. Unable even to purchase a daily meal, she lacked the ability to repair it.

Savitha was desperate for help.

“Consider my condition and deliver me from poverty,” she had cried out to her gods.

No help came.

Greetings of Love

Every raindrop that fell inside her home reminded Savitha of what she had lost and lacked.

Drip, drip, drip . . .

Days later, as she lay outside her home, a man came up to her and offered her a small booklet. Savitha glanced at the front page but was unable to understand what it said.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing God's example of love and care through Gospel for Asia tin sheets.

Savitha questioned what it was about. The young man, Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor Mohan, shared with her the information the booklet contained. He expressed the true love of God and invited her to church.

Widow Realizes God Cares

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan: Discussing Savitha and God's example of love and care through Gospel for Asia tin sheets.Whenever Savitha attended Pastor Mohan’s worship service, she listened intently to the Good News. She considered the reality of Jesus’ love and what He did for her on the cross. Peace began to flood into her life, and she soon made the decision to walk with Christ all her days.

She began praying, and she asked God to provide for her needs.

Then some wonderful news came! Just as God gave His Son to the world to bring shelter to the broken, she would be receiving five tin sheets for her broken roof.

“I could not believe my ears when I heard that news from the pastor,” Savitha said.

In peace, Savitha sits back down in her home against the wall. Drip, drip, drip . . . The rain falls off her roof—onto the ground outside. Now the sound of rain brings a sweet reminder of how God changed her life.

Discussing Sahdev who was lame from birth & hopeless, and a gospel tract, leading to happiness through Gospel for Asia-supported Christmas Gift Distribution

The 32-year-old pored over the pages of the Gospel tract. Many times, Sahdev would come to the last page and start over again, wanting to more fully understand its message. Being lame from birth, he had lost hope of having a meaningful life. But now, his life was about to change.

Someone Who Cared

Gospel for Asia (founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan) - supported missionary shares Christ's loveWhen Sahdev was 6 years old, he began using a hand-driven tricycle to help him get around. But after more than two decades of wear and tear, the tricycle had nearly reached its end. Sahdev had no other form of transportation. His mother, a daily wage laborer and the only income earner since his father’s death, couldn’t afford a new one.

Sahdev had to crawl, using only his hands to pull himself across the ground, to reach the place where he took baths. Sahdev sunk into discouragement.

Then one day, Sahdev met Gospel for Asia (GFA) pastor Prakash, who offered him the tract that he would go on to read over and over again. As Sahdev’s interest in the things of God grew, Pastor Prakash continued visiting him, sharing with him more about the God who cared.

Opposition Throughout the Area

Sahdev’s interest in Christ was unusual. Throughout the several years Pastor Prakash has served in the village, he has found opposition in the hearts of many of the other people in the area. Once, in 2007, Pastor Prakash was walking back to his own village after sharing about Christ’s love when, suddenly, people he didn’t know attacked him and beat him mercilessly. They took his money and his phone, tore his Bible and warned him not to come back.

Pastor Prakash was hospitalized with injuries on his head and hands. When he was released, he stayed in the area, knowing this was the place God had called him to. His burden for the people only increased, and he continued to love and serve them.

Gospel for Asia founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan

After spending time with Sahdev, Pastor Prakash noticed the paralyzed man’s worn-out tricycle. Wanting to help and encourage Sahdev, the pastor asked his leaders for a hand-tricycle to give to Sahdev through a Gospel for Asia (GFA)-supported Christmas gift distribution.

A Tricycle Gives ‘New Strength’ and Softens Hearts

A tricical provided through Gospel for Asia-supported Christmas Gift Distribution (founded by Dr. K.P. Yohannan) Because of gifts from friends of Gospel for Asia (GFA), Pastor Prakash was able to give Sahdev a new hand tricycle! And Sahdev was overcome with happiness.

“When I was discouraged, Gospel for Asia (GFA) blessed me with this tricycle,” he said. “Now I am able to travel to the marketplace easily for purchasing vegetables and other things.”

Sahdev doesn’t have to crawl anywhere anymore; the tricycle takes him wherever he needs to go. Even more than the physical help the tricycle provides, it has brought a level of independence to Sahdev that he hasn’t known in a long time.

“I have a new courage and strength in life,” he says.

Through the Gospel tract, the conversations with the pastor and the gift of a tricycle, Sahdev has seen more of Jesus, and the Lord is working in his heart. Now Sahdev comes to church twice a month.

But the Lord had an even greater, more beautiful purpose for Sahdev’s story.

The people in Sahdev’s village noticed the kindness of the church when Pastor Prakash gave the paralyzed man a tricycle. After the gift, those villagers no longer opposed Pastor Prakash, and they’ve given him an open door to tell them how much God loves them.
