Apple no longer ships hard copies of its OS. If you want the OS, you’ve gotta download it from the App store. If it flops over for some reason, you can, theoretically, reinstall and even reformat from this same App store. Most of the time, that works. I just reformatted two laptops entirely with the App store. But sometimes, such as those times when you are feeling really lousy and taking high-powered cough meds, you may, as I did, wipe... Read more

Rand Paul gave a great answer to the inevitable question on abortion. He also addressed the religious freedom laws, such as the one in Indiana. The video below contains a lot more than just his opinion on these two issues. You can find his answers to the questions on religious freedom and abortion at the times I give you. If you want to listen to the entire video, it is interesting. I’m putting this here because I think it reflects the bias... Read more

I pray a Rosary every Sunday for people in Purgatory. It takes quite a while, since I name every single person I know who has died, and I mean died, ever. I include great-great-grandparents I never met and friends of friends. It’s the least I can do for them. I only hope that when I die, someone will take the time to pray for me. I don’t know a great deal about Purgatory. But I do have a few surmises.... Read more

They’re going to keep going until they lose this war they’ve won. Gay marriage is knocking over barriers everywhere. After a long, hard fight, it appears that gay marriage proponents are winning. If they were smart, they’d take “yes” for an answer and pick up their winning marbles before people start changing their minds. But gay marriage proponents may be among the worst winners in political history. I’m beginning to think that, for whatever reason, they are just too dumb to... Read more

Blessed are the Merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Jesus Christ. Instead of giving up chocolate this past Lent, I went on a personal pilgrimage of forgiveness. I made a list, and I didn’t have to check it twice, of all the people I was holding a grudge against. I was astonished by how long the thing was. Some of those grudges were decades old. In fact, five... Read more

When I was not feeling well last week, I did a fuzzy-headed thing and wiped the main hard drive on my desk top. One thing led to the next (stay away from computers when you’re on narcotic cough meds) and … well … I ended up having to do all sorts of computer stuff, including full reformats of both desktop and laptops. I also managed to lock myself out of Disqus for a while. 🙂 Long story short, I’ve been... Read more

I apologize to everyone I ever dissed for being too concerned about the state of the liturgy. Evidently I have lived a blessed Catholic life. I’ve attended mass all over the world, on … lessee … three continents, an island nation and another island out by itself in the Pacific that was not a nation. I’ve participated in truly holy liturgies in private homes, on mountaintops, in one-room churches and grand cathedrals. In all that time, I have not seen anything like... Read more

If you do not become be converted and become as a little child, you shall not enter the Kingdom of heaven … And whoever receives a little child in my name receives me. But it would be better for those who harm one of these little ones if a millstone was hung around their neck and they were cast in to the sea. Jesus Christ Today we pray for the little children and souls of those who are meek and humble.... Read more

Pardon me folks, but the bigotry and discrimination shoe is on the other foot. Christian bashing is the way of the world these days. Biased anti-Christian media, attacks on Christians’ fundamental First Amendment rights, and a constant drumbeat of hate tropes from the Christian-bashers in the blogosphere create a climate of hate. Mark Shea covers this story so well that I have no need to improve. Check out Who’s going to Walkerton, IN to burn down #memoriespizza w me?  Also,... Read more

We had a family discussion last night. The upshot was that the time has come to consider putting Mama in a nursing home. That’s what the family members I love told me. Their verdict was simple: You will kill yourself, taking care of her. I, being Ms Reasonable, let them talk me down. I insisted on a delay, but agreed that, by the end of summer, I would find a place for her. Then, last night, I sat up and googled... Read more
