This is Chapter Fifteen of my book, The Word Set in Stone: How Archaeology, Science, and History Back up the Bible (Catholic Answers Press, March 15, 2023: see further book and purchase information). In the book its title is “St. John Wraps  it Up.” Bible passages: RSV. ***** And after this he said to him, “Follow me.” —JOHN 21:19 Ironically, though the Gospel of John has subject matter that can be subjected to archaeological examination, many seem to think the book is... Read more

This is Chapter Three of my book, The Word Set in Stone: How Archaeology, Science, and History Back up the Bible (Catholic Answers Press, March 15, 2023: see further book and purchase information). Bible passages: RSV. ***** Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” —GENESIS 12:7 We can’t find out much (if anything) specifically about the patriarch Abraham, revered in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam alike as “the father of faith.” Archaeologists... Read more

I watched the film Jesus Revolution last night. It was wonderful and heartwarming. My daughter Angelina said that she didn’t usually care much for Christian movies (for the usual reasons heard: mediocrity, syrupy-sweet, etc.), but liked this one because it was “real” and portrayed life and people as they really are. This is the trend now. May it continue indefinitely! I want to concentrate on one particular aspect of the film that touches upon Christian theology and the sacraments. Throughout... Read more

[book and purchase information] The late Steve Hays (please pray for his soul) was a Protestant Reformed, anti-Catholic apologist, very active online, who ran the site, Triablogue. I am critiquing his article about the papacy and Catholic Church government in general, entitled “Back to Babylon-1” (5-2-04). His words will be in blue. ***** I anticipate some objecting by thinking, “why go after the writing of a dead man who can’t respond?” My reply is twofold: 1) his material is still out... Read more

[see book and purchase information for this book of mine, published in 2003 (Sophia Institute Press); completed in 1996] Dr. Rodrigo Silva (“ecumenical” Brazilian Seventh-day Adventist and former Catholic) obtained a doctorate in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology N. S. Assunção (SP), a doctorate in classical archeology from USP, and a postdoctoral degree in biblical archaeology from Andrews University (USA). He holds a degree in theology and philosophy, a master’s degree in historical theology, and is the... Read more

This is a movie I liked when I first saw it (that year coincided with my call to be an apologist and doing street witnessing). It formed my impression of what St. Paul was like, just as Jesus of Nazareth (1977) played a big role in my initial Protestant conversion to Christ that year. We recently watched it again. * First, the good points: of course, Sir Anthony Hopkins is superb, as always, as Paul. Every Christian needs to see this... Read more

I recently examined the Asbury Revival: currently occurring on at at least four campuses: Protestant Christian colleges with predominantly Wesleyan-holiness roots. I knew that I had been writing about and predicting such a revival for many years (I have documented comments since the year 2000). So I was curious, and decided to do an advanced Google search of my blog. The following comments are what I discovered. Not that I claim to be a “prophet.” I don’t want to create... Read more

+ The Church Fathers on Auricular Confession to a Priest Lucas Banzoli is a very active Brazilian anti-Catholic polemicist, who holds to basically a Seventh-day Adventist theology, whereby there is no such thing as a soul that consciously exists outside of a body, and no hell (soul sleep and annihilationism). This leads him to a Christology which is deficient and heterodox in terms of Christ’s human nature after His death. He has a Master’s degree in theology, a degree and postgraduate... Read more

See a good overview article about it (including several videos). My title precisely describes my initial reaction to this phenomenon that began on February 8th at Asbury University in Wilmore, Kentucky: a non-denominational college that is aligned with the Wesleyan-Holiness movement. It turns out that a similar revival also occurred there in 1970 (see a YouTube documentary about it). It began with a chapel service led by Rev. Zach Meerkreebs, Envision Leadership Coordinator, from the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination. His... Read more
