Hindu Worship for Monday July 3, 2017 July 2, 2017

I was talking with my brother and my husband and an idea came up that I wanted to test out. (I am always getting wacky ideas and I tend to dive in and try to do them without thinking it all the way through so we’ll see how this goes. Temple Buddy was a failure, though I think it could be great if it has a stronger network and was run by someone with a different skill set).

Anyway, my current idea is to make this a space where you can check in and get a daily reminder (okay, that’s ambitious, maybe a weekly overview) of Hindu worship events like fasts, rituals, auspicious events or behaviors for each day of the year.

This would be in addition to posts on other topics as I become inspired. So to get started…

Hindu Worship for Monday July 3, 2017

Mondays are dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Read here for how to worship Shiva: Shiva Lingam Devotion How To

Some people observe a fast on Mondays from sunup to sundown.

Play this playlist of Shiva Bhajans:

Chandra, the moon, is the celestial body that rules Mondays. The color is white and the gemstone is pearl (according to this site)

There are no particular festivals or events for Monday July 3rd.

Auspicious Activities:

Visit drikpanchang.com to look up auspicious dates for your area and activities.

(For example in my area: July 3rd is an auspicious date to buy a new vehicle of any kind)

Coming Up in Hindu Worship:

Tuesday July 4th:

  • Devshayani Ekadashi
  • Gauri Vrat Begins
  • Vasudeva Dwadashi

More details on those tomorrow!
(I will try to start getting these posts up ahead of time so you can prepare for things, but for now I’m just going to let you know as soon as I can!)

Everyday Aspects of Hindu Worship

(daily prayers of Hinduism from this article)

When you wake:

“O! Mother Earth, who has the ocean as clothes and mountains and forests on her body, who is the wife of Lord Vishnu, I bow to you.  Please forgive me for touching you with my feet.”

Take a bath or shower:

“In this water, I invoke the presence of holy waters from the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Saraswati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri.”

Before eating:

“Brahman is the oblation; Brahman is the clarified butter etc. constituting the offerings, by Brahman is the oblation poured into the fire of Brahman; Brahman verily shall be reached by him who always sees Brahman in all actions.”
(In my house we said “Om, Param-atmane-namah” which means “I bow to the Supreme Self”)

Before sleep:

“Oh Lord kindly forgive my wrong actions done knowingly or unknowingly, either through my organs of action (hand, feet, speech) or through my organs of perception (eyes, ears) or by my mind. Glory unto Thee O Lord, who is the ocean of kindness.”
