exodus-stable“From an economic standpoint alone, what you’re asking is problematic, to say the least.” That one line of dialogue has probably been quoted in more early reviews of Exodus: Gods and Kings than any other — and now you can hear it for yourself, in one of two new clips from the film that were posted to YouTube today.

The first clip actually comes from another scene, in which Christian Bale’s Moses sits down for a chat with Ben Kingsley’s Nun, in a room that features a symbol from the Bar Kokhba revolt, which didn’t take place until about 1,400 years later:

The clip with the quote comes from a scene where Moses confronts Ramses in a stable and holds a sword to his throat — and, bizarrely, we even see servants work with the horses in the background, even though a man is threatening their Pharaoh:

I have to say, the bit where Moses says Hebrews should have the same “rights” as Egyptians sounds kind of anachronistic to me. Did people living over 3,000 years ago think of themselves as having “rights”? Certainly not “human rights”.
