Watch: Cornelius And His Family Speak In Tongues, And More, In Two New Clips From <i>A.D. The Bible Continues</i>

Four months ago, I wondered if A.D. The Bible Continues would show Cornelius and his family speaking in tongues before Peter baptizes them. I could think of several other films that had depicted the conversion of Cornelius, but none that had really depicted this particular miracle. And, well, now we have our answer: it does!

Here is a sneak peek of that scene, from the episode airing this Sunday night:

Incidentally, note how the two clips use different music when the speaking in tongues begins. The first clip seems to be using music from the burning-bush sequence in Exodus: Gods and Kings — but the second clip uses something else entirely.

So it looks like the first clip is using what filmmakers refer to as a “temp track” — the music that is temporarily added to a film, usually borrowed from existing soundtracks, to give the editors a sense of how the movie should feel — while the second clip uses the music that was actually written for this scene by the series’ composers.

Incidentally, note that Mary Magdalene accompanies Peter to Cornelius’s house in this version of the story. (Acts 10 says Peter was accompanied by other believers from Joppa when he visited Cornelius, but it doesn’t say who they were; it does, however, refer to them as “circumcised”, so, hmmm.) I spoke to Chipo Chung, the actress who plays Mary Magdalene, about shooting the speaking-in-tongues scene here.
